NAT PARRY: ‘My Father Would Be Proud’

Nat Parry, the son of the late Robert Parry, founder of this site, says Consortium News is carrying on his father’s work with an independent and principled approach to journalism.

By Nat Parry

When my dad launched Consortium News back in 1995, his motivations were essentially two-fold: one, he wanted to establish an outlet to publicize documents that were emerging which put the history of the 1980s in a new – more troubling – light. Second, he had grown distressed by the dishonesty and silliness that had pervaded American journalism by the 1990s. This trend, he believed, effectively prevented important stories from being told and betrayed the solemn duty of the press to inform the people. He created Consortium News as a fiercely independent home for serious journalism that challenged the conventional wisdom.

Since his untimely passing in early 2018, Joe Lauria and his team have kept this vision alive. From the authoritative reporting on Russiagate to the courageous work defending Julian Assange, Consortium News has maintained an independent and principled approach to journalism that is all too uncommon in our current media landscape and of which I’m sure my father would be proud. I urge you to support this essential media outlet, which is needed now more than ever.

Thank you.

It is very encouraging to see that Bob Parry ‘s work has inspired successors and a new generation to take up this noble and essential task of independent critical journalism. More strength and a happy new year to you all.

Robert Parry’s insight into the machinations of government and those in power was uncanny. He understood, that the collaboration between government institutions and MSM left a vacuum which needed to be filled by Consortium news and other likeminded publications. The fact that Joe Lauria and the team continued this publication is a testament to the high esteem in which they hold the founder. In every sense, Robert Parry’s spirit lives on in Consortium News and the contributors continue to maintain high standards, commensurate with the principals of good journalism. It is vitally important that Consortium News continues to prosper into the future and that can only be achieved by support from its readers.

    @ Nat
Thank you for putting your personal ‘stamp’ on the legacy and continuance of Consortiumnews. Your father and I exchanged several very meaningful exchanges on the topic of garnering an idealistic formulation of journalists and supporting artists in order to more meaningfully inform, motivate and promote the public good before private advantage. His journalistic integrity and professionalism remains an ideal model, especially in this current era of mind in neutral, full speed ahead we have embarked upon.
My donation, meager though it can only be, will provide itself in the wake of the new year.?
Thanks to you all, and HAPPY NEW YEAR??
    As Usual,

Wow, I love that you actually conversed with Robert Parry and now his Son. Inspiring to me, for one!
I’ve been wanting to donate to CN as I admire the heck out of their support for Julian especially as well as other journalists and professionals who tell us the truth. Isn’t there some inherent respect for the reader in all that? I think so.
I watched Nat speak with such clarity and thought what a legacy Robert left us all in many ways. And, yes, let’s not forget Joe Lauria’s profound work and that of the staff of CN. I love Chris Hedges’ brilliant writings here, too. May 2022 be somewhat good to us all. Cheers, Jean McKay in Chico, California
