Craig Murray: Worse Than You Can Imagine

The author has no doubt the Western political elite are complicit in the genocide of Palestinians at a much deeper level than the people have yet understood.

Governments cannot take big decisions extremely quickly except in the most extreme of circumstances.

There are mechanisms in all states that consider policy decisions, weigh them up, involve the various departments of the state whose activities are affected by that decision, and arrive at a conclusion, though not necessarily a good one.

The decision to stop aid funding to UNRWA, the specialized U.N. refugee agency for Palestinians, was not taken by numerous Western states in a single day.

In the U.K., several different government ministries had to coordinate.

Even within only a single ministry, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO,), views would have to be coordinated through written submissions and interdepartmental meetings between the departments dealing with the Middle East, with the United Nations, with the United States, with Europe and then of course between the diplomatic and development wings of the ministry.

That process would include seeking the views of British ambassadors to Tel Aviv, Doha, Cairo, Riyadh, Istanbul and Washington and to the United Nations in Geneva and in New York.

It is not necessarily a lengthy process but it is not a day’s work, and nor would it need to be. There was no practical impact to making the announcement of cutting UNRWA funding a day sooner or a day later.

Consider that the parallel process had to be completed in the United States, in Canada, in Germany, in Australia and in all the other Western powers that contributed to starvation in Gaza by cutting aid to UNRWA.

All of these countries had to go through their procedures, and it could only be by prior coordination – weeks in advance – between these states that they announced all on the same day the destruction of the life support system for Palestinians, then in absolute need.

And then consider that we now know for certain that the Israelis had produced no evidence whatsoever of UNRWA complicity in Hamas resistance, on which these decisions in all those states were allegedly based.

I have no doubt at all that the Western political elite, paid tools of the zionist machine, are complicit in the genocide of Palestinians and ethnic cleansing of Gaza at a much deeper level than the people have yet understood.

The refusal by Labour leader Keir Starmer and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to contemplate ending arms sales and military support to Israel is not due to inertia or concern for the arms industry. It is that they actively support the destruction of the Palestinians.

Within an Hour

British barrister Malcom Shaw arguing for Israel before the World Court on Jan 12, 2024. (UN TV Screenshot)

The coordinated decision of the Western nations to fast track famine by stopping UNRWA funding was announced within an hour of the ICJ ruling that Gazans were at immediate risk of genocide, driving from the headlines that adverse ruling against Israel.

This sent the clearest signal in response that the Western powers would not be stopped from genocide by international law or institutions.

The Western powers give not a fig for 16,000 massacred Palestinian infants. No evidence of mass graves in hospitals will move them. They knew genocide was happening and continued actively to arm and abet it.

This genocide is the desired goal of the West. No other explanation is remotely plausible.

I have never believed the spin that Joe Biden is trying to restrain Benjamin Netanyahu, while simultaneously arming and funding Netanyahu and using U.S. forces to fight alongside him.

Biden is making no effort to restrain Netanyahu. Biden fully supports the genocide.

My reading of this was reinforced when I was looking back at the Israeli murders on the Mavi Mamara in 2010, when they killed ten unarmed aid workers attempting a Freedom Flotilla aid delivery to Gaza.

Israel’s actions were clearly both murderous and in breach of international law. Biden as vice president defended Israel staunchly then.  It is essential to understand that Genocide Joe has always been Genocide Joe. I wrote:

“Joe Biden took the lead in defending the raid to the U.S. public. In an interview with PBS, he described the raid as ‘legitimate’ and argued that the flotilla organizers could have disembarked elsewhere before transferring the aid to Gaza.

‘So what’s the big deal here? What’s the big deal of insisting it go straight to Gaza?’ Biden asked about the humanitarian mission. ‘Well, it’s legitimate for Israel to say, ‘I don’t know what’s on that ship. These guys are dropping eight — 3,000 rockets on my people.’”

Biden is not being outplayed by Netanyahu. He is actively abetting Netanyahu and shares with him the objective of full Israeli occupation of Gaza after the Palestinian people are killed or expelled into Sinai.

He also shares with Netanyahu the aim of a wider regional conflict in which the U.S. and Gulf states ally with Israel against Iran, Syria, Yemen and Hezbollah. This is their joint vision of the Middle East – Greater Israel, and U.S. hegemony operating through the Sunni monarchies.

“This genocide is the desired goal of the West. No other explanation is remotely plausible.”

If you believe all the spin from the White House about Biden trying to restrain Netanyahu, I suggest you look instead at the White House and State Department spokesmen refusing to accept any single instance of Israeli atrocity and deferring to Israel on every single crime.

I am currently in Pakistan, and I must say it has been a great refreshment to be in a country where everybody understands why ISIS, Al Nusra etc. never attacked Israeli interests, and sees precisely what Western governments are doing over Gaza. What is understood by developing nations is thankfully understood by Gen Z in the West as well.

The Arab regimes of the Gulf and Jordan are dependent upon Israeli and U.S. security services and surveillance for protection from their own people.

The lack of really massive street protest against their own regimes by Arab peoples is a direct testimony to the effectiveness of that vicious repression, particularly when states like Jordan actually fight alongside Israel against Iranian weapons.

The anti-Iranian card is of course the trick both Biden and Netanyahu have left to play. By promoting an escalation with Iran, Western politicians were able to default to a position of claiming the case for arming Israel was proven – and I think were genuinely perplexed to find the public did not buy it.

The political class, across the Western world and the Arab world, is utterly divorced from its people over Gaza.

We are seeing worldwide repression, as peaceful conferences are stormed by police in Germany, students are beaten by police on American campuses, and in the U.K. old white people like me suffer the kind of continual harassment long suffered by young Muslim men.

This is not the work of Netanyahu operating as a rogue. It is the result of the machinations of a professional political class across the Western world welded to zionism, with the supremacy of Israel as an article of fundamental belief.

Times are not this dark by accident. They were designed to be this dark.

How refreshing to read commentary that does not pretend to assume that the crimes of governments are somehow contrary to their intentions.

I’m 77. Although I began searching over 50 years ago for the way to explain the increasing conflict that’s been permeating our existence for 200,000 years, I only bought my first computer and learned to type 25 years ago. When I got onto the web I learned quickly that I suffer from IADD, internet attention deficit disorder. So, though I set up my website thinking I would publish my analysis in a book length prose, I decided to condense its essence to the size of my site banner and elaborate to the extent required. So my banner reads: “Why am I?” is the question of meaning that gave birth to humanity. There’s no answer so it will be the last why. Our tries to answer it are causing the death of humanity.”

The new western empire with all the old empires united under NATO for emergency world conquest due to emerging nations with military and economic powers of resistance and a vision of a world not dependent on military profit motives for permanent war. A top predator empire is a threat to human civilization addicted to strategic dominance behavior traits.

What are we going to do? Taking down western imperialism is a very daunting project. For one thing, I think it would include the little subproject of taking down capitalism.

i understood and understand. but all people should also understand that this is another test-run. if we let them get away with it, it will repeat and one of the next times one might find oneself a member of a group earmarked as disposable. resisting this and holding the executioners to account is not only a matter of justice but also a matter of self-preservation.

From the American “Zion”, Utah, thank you so much for your advocacy and lucid prose! I am encouraged by the young people who seem to see so much more clearly than my generation and who are showing incredible courage and commitment in protesting the heinous actions of Israel and their own governments. We must support them at all times. It is my fervent hope that by exercising our constitutional rights we can bring about the necessary revolutionary change that alone will restore this very sick, perhaps terminally ill, republic to a state of health and sanity. The young people are leading the way. Needful change never comes from the top, the entrenched, the elite and privileged. I know that it will never come from the sorry likes of my senators and congressmen who claim to be “Christians” yet obviously support the racist, supremacist and very brutal and lawless state of Israel.

Craig Murray has exposed the systematic and well-planned support of the Western ruling elite for the genocide in Gaza and the brutal oppression in the West Bank by the colonial-settler state in Palestine.
As a former diplomat, his words are relevant to understanding how political decisions are made in a state and how many states work together to advance a common policy, as they did in the case of blocking aid to UNRWA.
The author clearly and lucidly explains the central objective of the Biden administration to destroy the Palestinians because of total American political dominance over the Western ruling establishment. His views go against the false excuses of the apologists and defenders of the crimes of America and Zionist Israel. Nonetheless, his words serve as a source of inspiration for antifascist and anti-Zionist writers and advocates for truth and justice for the people of Palestine. This is a people who are being brutally destroyed by the collective power of the West by fully supporting Israeli genocide in Gaza and by safeguarding reactionary Arab regimes for their support of Israeli crimes of ethnic cleansing and its genocidal war in Gaza.

The governments of the Gulf states and Jordan have indeed played a pivotal role in the genocide in Gaza. A bidirectional overland trade route was established for the transfer of goods from the Persian Gulf through Saudi Arabia and Jordan to Israel bypassing the Yemeni blockade of the Red Sea. They also made their contribution in the defense of Israel against the incoming barrage from Tehran on April 13th. Blinken has never given up on normalising the ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel. He has shown in words and through his visits that it is a major concern for him as it will be a breakthrough for his favourite Jewish state.

Great article by Mr. Murray, as usual. Only one small thing, it’s not worse than some can imagine. The folks in Palestine don’t need to imagine: the most horrific scenarios we could imagine are real – so bad that few will be able to believe it.

Yesterday Amy Goodman interviewed a Palestinian journalist in Gaza who said that the mass graves near Nasser hospital had bodies that were mutilated, and organs were removed from some of the bodies he saw. This is pretty horrific. There have been other reports of this on social media, but it is so gruesome, that few want to broach the subject. I have no hard proof but, Palestinians on the ground have reported it.

Of course! Indeed, the USA, Israel et al had to be in cahoots long before
they publicly cancelled UNRWA funding. Scum. The termites sure
are bringing down the democracy house. More holes than structure
in it. This year more than any year before in my long life have I
been so sharply aware that the leadership (over half of Congress are
millionaires) of all three branches constitute and operate as a
fraternity intent on the primacy of their strategic power interests over
the citizenry’s interests and needs. The 1971 Powell Memorandum
seeded the ghoulish flowering we see today of biggest money,
the corporate and deep state (CIA etc) pulling the strings.
Homelessness is becoming not just a fact of life for so many
but a metaphor for the destruction of fealty to the Constitution
and Bill of Rights. Another metaphor for the loss of humanitarianism
is the brutalization (really) of our young university students for
exercising their rights to assemble and freely think and discuss
and protest by the corporatized university presidents. Long now
has the “leadership class” disdained and cast away our young
people, our children in so many ways – not the least of which
is its refusal to pour mega resources into ameliorating climate
catastrophe in the interests of our kids and our beloved Earth.

It’s way past time to get the Biden Administration charged under 18 U.S. Code § 1091, which is the statute that incorporated the Genocide Convention in US criminal law. Members of this administration shouldn’t go a single day without having this statute in their faces, up front and center at every protest at every meeting, press conference, briefing, and trips home and abroad.

They may feel they are immune now, but let’s get them considering what is possible when they leave office, given they have set the precedent of charging former presidents. They should have visions of prison all the days of their lives.

And maybe the propagandists in the Mainstream Media needs tp be encouraged to think about their culpability as well.

      Let us find the way.

Yes, I will second that, for emphasis. Europe was well acquainted with empire, plunder and all the evils that power that plunder on the local scale, long before anyone came up with “zionism.” “We came, we saw, he died” was a European motto long before Hillary cackled it. Its probably written in Latin on some old shield hanging on some old castle wall that was built with the blood of the serfs.

This is what Europe has been doing since the Dark Ages, and it turns out that anything else is filed under what Thomas Jefferson described as “Wonderful is the effect of impudent and persevering lying.” hxxps://www.monticello.org/research-education/thomas-jefferson-encyclopedia/tree-liberty-quotation/

“than the people have yet understood.” –Please speak for yourself. Please.

Personally, I’ve understood the nature of America for a long, long time now. America was given a choice, a chance to choose a revolution of values to get on the right side of world history (see King, “Beyond Vietnam”). This was over 50 years ago, and America made its choice. America put a bullet into the Good Doctor’s head. America chose Reagan and Mourning in America. The choice was quite some time ago, and a quite clear moral choice. I have “understood” for a long, long time now.

Ship of Fools- America didn’t put the bullet into Dr. King’s head. It was SOMEONE IN America. Plenty of people loved Dr King. Plenty of people wanted an end to the Vietnam war way before it ended. Plenty of people want the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to be a REALITY, not just a dream. The specific shooter, and the specific person who smothered him in the hospital were investigated by his dear friend Dr. William Pepper. It was not James Earl Ray.

There are way more of us in America that want to survive and allow others to do so than there are people trying to destroy everybody else. Unfortunately, those few psychos causing LOTS of trouble, consider that their own survival depends on destroying everybody else. Psycho, huh? Yep!

“Biden is not being outplayed by Netanyahu.”

Perhaps not. But Biden is doing himself no favors by alienating a substantial fraction of voters; i.e., those who oppose the organized, premeditated mass-murder of Palestinians by Israel.

Given the power of the Israel lobby on US foreign policy, Biden also cannot pivot away from supporting the murderers.

I think Biden (and the US) are caught in a bind.

Does the West care about ANY lives but their own, this is merely the culmination of centuries of genocide around the planet. Tens, dozens of millions exterminated to make the West rich; to facillitate the theft of land, people and resources.

        April 27, 2024 at 17:43

William, I for one would prefer to steer away from generalities like “the west”. I know it does seem that way though. But think on this: are you from the West? Would you gleefully engineer the torture and obliteration of 3 million people, mostly innocent women and children? I hope not. So this using of generalities can lead down a very dark path. It would be better to use very specific details. Example : on such and such a date, at such and such time, joe jones bypassed congress to deliver an arms package to a country with a stark record of human rights abuses and purported genocidal actions (specifics listed) thus violating international law. Or: this list (of exact Senators names) approved a bill for a weapons package going to a country committing genocide, which is a violation of International Law, and actionable, for which prison sentences could be dealt out. Or: these (specific people) on (specific date) drew up a bill that combined aid and weapons to such and such an area for (exact stated purpose), although separate bills were clearly needed, and an investigation needs to occur as to why these things were lumped together. Or: an investigation was done as to what may have lay behind illegal actions by the president and certain specific senators (named) was done on such and such a date. It was found that Joe Blow was taking bribes from (specific entity names). It was found that Josie Blowsie had been threatened with assassination by ( specific name) of herself and her children. It was found that Joe Black had been blackmailed with perverted sexual material from Epstein Island while under the influence of a date rape drug on (specific date). It was found that Joe Schmoe was a psychopathic criminal as witnesses in his personal and professional life had witnessed murderous, perverted and felonius actions (exact specifics given with exact times, places, names, events, etc.), and the US Marshalls arrested
him on such and such a date, trial pending, no bail. So, hey, this is probably overkill, but the psychos who are ruining our world use generalities. We don’t have to be like them. The sane and peaceful and humanitarian people of the world (poor or not) need to unite, and stop these various hells on earth we have been witnessing.

A good article, but did you really mean to write these words:
“the Western political elite, paid tools of the zionist machine”?

I hope not, because you make it seem that the Euro-american empire, which predates zionism by centuries, is somehow in its very core a zionist project.
As you surely know, extermination and plunder have always been essential to the empire, and the Gaza genocide is only the most recent addition to its collection of horrors.

It’s one thing to point out that the Israeli lobby wields great influence in Washington, maybe even beyond the NRA. I fully agree that it does. But it’s quite another thing to claim that the Israeli lobby controls US foreign policy.

Common sense ought to tell you that this is laughable, but if common sense is not enough consider a couple of indisputable facts which are also “about today”. First, the US spends far more on its proxy war in Ukraine than it spends on Israel. Does this mean that the “Ukrainian lobby” has bought off the State Department and Congress? And, secondly, who is now America’s greatest (supposed) enemy? It’s China. Are you going to attribute this major turn in foreign policy to the Israeli lobby?

Thank you, Craig Murray. Of course you are correct and I am an old campaigner against U.S. imperialism, since the 1960s when I protested in the streets against the imperialist Vietnam War. I was a teenager at the time. Imperialism has not changed. It plays its old tricks, drags out its old lies and cliches, and people die horribly. Only now it is worse. The genocide in Gaza is something I never expected to see again on the earth. I began my studies of history with the history of the Third Reich and WWII, because my father fought in that war. He was in the Army Air Corps and stationed in England. He towed a glider across the Channel on D-Day. The Ukraine War and now the genocide in Gaza would astonish him if he were alive. Genocide was why he was fighting Hitler. Zionist genocide would enrage him. It enrages me.

The western governments have lost all moral compass and humanity, led by the United States. Their worship of Mammon and their lust for power (a power that is fading fast ,did they but know it) will be the undoing of more than Ukraine and Gaza. It will be the complete undoing of the collective west.
