What Makes Independent Media Independent?

It comes down to being beholden to no vested interests other than trying to figure out what’s true and reporting it.

Consortium News is not funded by any advertisers, governments or corporate interests. We are backed solely by our readers and viewers who free us to pursue the truth to the best of our ability, beholden to no political camp or ideology. That’s why our supporters come from across the political spectrum.

The irony of our times has to be:

“So many Americans insist on having a free and independent media, but so few read what it produces.”

Sadly, free and independent news falls into the same category as American’s gym memberships, exercise equipment and extended warrantees. (sigh)

The corporate media today acts in unison to withhold key information, and inserts blatant falsehoods. It acts like one would expect from a monopoly controlled by people who are bent on duping the public. This seems especially true in matters of war and peace.

I thank God for Consortium News.

We know there is no such thing as being truly independent or free.
Even facts can be skewed because we humans can never see the whole picture – just parts of the elephant.
But it’s good that you try a bit harder and do a much better job of independent thought and reporting than mainstream outlets, and many of the other independent sites.
So thank you for your work which I value as an insightful and interesting part of my morning update on what’s going on in the world we share.

We beg to differ. We are dependent only on our readers who do not come from a single political bloc. There is no group that exercises any editorial control over Consortium News, there is no one pulling any strings. We call that independent.

        Clearly demonstrating best practice ^^

And how it should be in any media.

        My deepest respect!

The need to know is important. The need to know the truth is vital.
