Consortium News, and its webcast CN Live! have received praise for its extensive and detailed coverage of the Media Trial of the Century–the attempt by the United States to bring imprisoned WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange to Alexandria, Virginia to stand trial for possessing and publishing classified information.

After the daily and nightly coverage during the September hearing at Old Bailey in London, Consortium News will again have direct video access to the courtroom to watch as Judge Vanessa Baraitser delivers her judgement on whether Assange will be sent to the United States to face espionage and computer intrusion charges, or whether he will provisionally be a free man.

Provisionally, because there will almost certainly be an appeal by the losing side on Monday.  In the lead up to Judgement Day, Consortium News is publishing a series of feature articles and videos to lay the groundwork.

We began on Friday with a speech by Italian journalist Stefania Maurizi, it was followed by a re-webcast of Assange in a video discussion with journalist John Pilger and then a piece by Cathy Vogan looking back at Assange’s appearance at the Sydney Opera House in 2011.  We plan several other articles on Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday’s decision. So please check back on the site.

On Monday, CN Live! will air a special live webcast soon after the decision is read out in court, featuring a report from Editor Joe Lauria on the details of Baraitser’s judgement followed by a discussion with invited guests. We are planning a second panel discussion two days later on CN Live! to continue assessing the implications of the judgement.

So please stay tuned to Consortium News‘ continuing coverage of the Media Trial of the Century and please help us produce it by making a donation to our Winter Fund Drive.
