There’s more than one advantage to it.
The Sunday New York Times weighs a ton and gets your hands full of ink. Most of it is made up of pull-out ads you’ll just throw away. And its coverage of national security and foreign policy reads like it was dictated from Langley.
Even the sports section is underwhelming. All this for a hefty five dollars–every Sunday. The weekday price is $2.50. That and 25 cents will get you on the subway. And at least you’ll be getting somewhere.
Consortium News averages between 10,000 and 20,000 readers a day. One day in April we had 48,000. If 20,000 readers donated the $5 they may plunk down for one Sunday NYT (it costs $6 outside New York), that would raise $100,000 for one of the leading–and oldest–independent news sites on the web.
So how ’bout it?

I am a keen follower of your web site & have been for a few years. From time to time I’ve donated small amounts. Can’t afford a lot – I am an Australian pensioner.
Would love to give $US5 to get a year’s subs to CN but when I click on the PayPal link on your page, I get this message:
“Your session has expired due to inactivity”
I’ve logged in to my PayPal account & everything is in order there so something is going on at your end I think.
Also, lately at the bottom of your front page a couple of lines of HTML text appears.
I prefer PayPal payment to credit card so will wait to see what happens in the next few days.
Cheers & good wishes for you great news outlet
