Excellent and sobering. None of my liberal friends can get past their hatred, so sad.

“AI civilization” is comparable to an education consisting of math without art, or industry without creativity, or if you like… “faith without works is dead, but works without faith is valueless”

Matters not whether life is indeed winding down to a slow moaning end, what matters is whether those moments alive are worth living.

Technology overwhelmingly diverts us from those moments of reality while we serve as flesh and blood automatons, driven by the algorithms designed for the sole benefit of the elite.

Artificial intelligence will never replace Human intelligence. Computers are just adding machines using simple logic gates and doing its calculations very fast. Simple number cruncher’s which can do logical calculations way faster than Humans, but that is all they can do, Logical calculations. Real Intelligence has far more facets than just logic and the human brain is infinitely more complex than any computer could ever possibly be. Computers are rubbish at many tasks that logic is not the driving force behind like facial recognition that a baby can almost instantly achieve but a computer needs to use billions of calculations to achieve and when the face moves by a single degree the calculations have to start again from scratch. Quantum Computing is just a faster adding machine that are good at doing specific logical tasks. All computers are just calculators and that is all they will ever be. Fast logical calculators.

Thank you for a succinct, sober, description to what the mainstream commentariat, of course, distorts.

Wish to add that my reply is in no way a slight to the ConsortiumNews feature which deals with the cynical, political use of AI.

AI discussion should probe the premise of jobs and the fact that the monetization and thus commodification of everything has thoroughly, and already, broken down and disintegrated community and our connection with nature and each other. In fact it has been destructive of our natural habitat.

I would argue that AI is a logical (and extremely destructive) outcome of advanced capitalism, and it euphemistic notion of creative destruction.

Our current civilization is in decline. The opportunity is to create a new civilization in harmony with our ecosphere, not the current trajectory of control (for a few) and destruction which will be our demise; that includes the half-baked notion that somehow jobs are our salvation, and provides “community building” under capitalism.
