Keith Olbermann Wants Jimmy Dore Banned

More and more excuses are being invented to censor, de-platform and marginalize everyone outside the Overton window of war, oligarchy, ecocide and oppression, writes Caitlin Johnstone.

Proving once again he doesn’t care who he has to step on to claw his way to rock bottom, fallen liberal media hero Keith Olbermann has called for the complete removal of left-wing comedian and podcaster Jimmy Dore from all internet platforms.

“Time to ban this feral succubus Jimmy Dore from Twitter and other platforms,” Olbermann told his one million Twitter followers on Friday.

[Listen to a reading of this article.]

Olbermann’s wrath was incurred by a short video clip bizarrely described as “misogynistic” in which Dore portrayed out of touch liberal elitist Emma Vigeland as an out of touch liberal elitist, saying that if people like her ever tried to bring their esoteric university Marxist wankery around actual working class people they’d get punched in the face and told to go back to their cul-de-sac.

It probably also didn’t help that Dore has done multiple segments on Olbermann’s slide into flag-draped gibbering lunacy following the U.S. presidential election of Donald Trump, including his public apology to war criminals George W. Bush and John McCain, his demented Russia hysteria and his support for NSA surveillance of U.S. media figures.

“Someone got their feels feels hurt and now they wanna censor their critics like a regular authoritarian fascist,” Dore responded to Olbermann’s post.

You can always count on the less reality-anchored pundits to say out loud what the rest are thinking in private. Support for internet censorship is now a mainstream position among the so-called “moderates” of the warmongering corporatist Democratic Party, not just for people to their right but for people to their left as well. If it were up to these freaks the entire internet would just be a bunch of Wall Street liberals agreeing with each other that Trump is bad and Jen Psaki is a strong yet sensual warrior princess.

‘Red-Brown Alliance’

The Emma Vigeland tweet that Dore was riffing on in the clip was more hand-wringing about a “red-brown alliance” that all grown adults should realize by now was never anything other than a narrative management campaign to keep leftists from moving too far from the establishment-authorized Overton window of acceptable opinion.

For years a strain of Western leftist thought has been shrieking hysterically about an impending alliance between socialists and fascists, and yet the only evidence they’ve been able to produce in all that time that this is happening are things like Glenn Greenwald going on Tucker Carlson, Dore interviewing an antiwar Boogaloo Boy one time, and me making some mistakes early on in my writing career.

Only by the most determined mental gymnastics is this anywhere remotely close to the same universe as the Night of the Long Knives Strasserism fantasy that “red-brown alliance” fearmongers have been masturbating to, and it’s time for everyone to admit that they were wrong about this imaginary threat.

And while everyone was freaking out about the idea of imaginary fascism sneaking in through the back window, actual fascism strolled through the front door. More and more excuses are being invented to censor, deplatform and marginalize everyone outside the Overton window of war, oligarchy, ecocide and oppression, and more and more people within that window are becoming increasingly comfortable with the idea.

Internet censorship, jailing journalists for telling the truth about the powerful, mind-warping mass propaganda campaigns and rapidly escalating authoritarianism are all becoming normalized throughout our society, and it can’t lead anywhere good.

Jimmy Dore is a pervert and tried to slut shame the women who blew the whistle. He admitted it on his show “she was dressed in appropriately and i just commented nice dress Ana!’ As felt compelled to look up her dress and make a joke about it. Does not matter how progressive he pretends to be. He attempted to justify his actions and then attacked the women for calling him out. So Bill cosby admitted to drugging women, so being out of jail does not exonerate him either.

Give me a break. Jimmy Dore, by commenting “nice dress Ana” to a woman wearing provocative clothes, is equivalent to Bill Cosby drugging women and raping them? This is “perverted”? ?
Ana Kasparian is a “woman who blew the whistle”? By lying about and smearing Aaron Maté, saying he “was paid by the Russians” and “defending dictators” because she disagreed about his views on Syria? And then trying to blackmail Dore to stop him from defending Maté? Not being able to discuss the issues but only engaging in cowardly adhominem attacks?
I’m afraid you have it all wrong and are engaging in the same McCarthyite smears of honest commentators like Dore, as Kasparian, Uygur, Olbermann and the rest of these “presstitutes” are doing.

I’d say that is an utterly dishonest account of events. The oligarchy has its trolls everywhere.

Thank you, Caitlin. It’s obvious why the oligarchy wants to silence a voice as informed, intelligent, honest, and clear as Jimmy Dore.

God bless Caitlin Johnstone for calling out Keith Olbermann, one of the most repulsive cretins active in mainstream media today.

Interesting that these “liberal media heroes” are smearing their opponents as supporting a “red-brown alliance,” while calling for them to be removed from social media and the internet – which in the last century, in terms of prior technology, used to be known as “book burning.” Which is as “brown” as it gets. As Caitlin says, it’s fascism coming in right through the front door.

The English judge in Assange case and now the Scottish judge in the Murphy case have set precedents (influenced by US DoJ) ruling essentially that if a non-corporate media reports what a whistleblower says, they are not entitled to free press / free speech protection but may be, as Julian Assange was, charged with espionage. So, it becomes not what’s said but who has a right to say

I am surprised that more liberals have not gone after Jimmy. He speaks the truth which they cannot stand.

His own twisted version of the truth.

“Beware the Savage Roar of 1984” sings David Bowie in my head as I read this great article.
    We are all so f..ked!
    Dore is spot on.
Like Assange he is a threat and Olberman is the flavor of the week tool.

      Short and concise.

“And while everyone was freaking out about the idea of imaginary fascism sneaking in through the back window, actual fascism strolled through the front door.”

In Europe, it perhaps happened during Enlightenment as Enlightened Absolutism. Pundits were corresponding with monarchs and sponsored. Involvement of the State (rather than Church) in censorship may also started in this era. From modest beginnings, the concept grew tremendously in the age when you need a large volume of content to make your case in a politically meaningful way, i.e. being accepted by large segments of the population.
