    While I think it accurate to say that *one* of the U.S. goals is to weaken Russia, that does not answer the question, why? There is certainly more at stake, e.g.:

    1. Bestowing an economic bonanza on Defense Dept. contractors;

    2. Maintaining and extending U.S. hegemony, to block emergence of a multi-polar world order;

    3. Siting U.S. nuclear weapons in Ukraine; and

    4. Blocking the economic merger of Asia and Europe, establishing that Europe is a U.S. exclusive possession;

    That last goal became far more clear in light of the sabotage of the Nordstream pipelines, destroying the existing energy merger of Russia and Europe.

    Well done to the both of yas, Joe and Regis.
    In all of the gravity of our plight, I have to say a I got a good little chuckle out of the story of your old man being shooed out of the confessional for bringing home the intellectual bacon. How different are these times, and yet how so much remains the same with the sociopaths still at the controls. “Up! Up! Always up!”

    Russia has to liberate Odessa & Kharkov from Ukrainian death squads-it is Responsibility to Protect-the boundaries are going to be unstable whatever they are -not taking Kharkov & Odessa would mean giant Nato bases there it would be a defeat of Russia-the govt would fall i suspect that is a US proposal first with Fiona Hill and now with this hilarious Saudi peace plan
    it also would reward US blackmail and they would keep using the threat of nuclear war-to give in is cowardice
    after Odessa is liberated people in Europe would realize the war is lost how many years could they support this at 7 billion a month-2 years not more than 6 -it is wrong to say i don’t care how we got here-then you can never get to a resolution
    no talks with US a complete Russian victory is the only way forward-many will die either way so Russia has to win it when you are scared of nuclear war from a bully you are really scared of your own immortality

    Democracy is something the CIA or FBI has never supported around the world when countries wanted to own their own resources. And heh, JFK got done away with because he was in agreement that country’s around the world should own and use their resources to lift up their own country. Think about that. Countries with their own resources who elect reps who want to nationalize their resources are ALWAYS targeted by CIA who is the deep state and why JFK wanted them blown up into a thousand pieces.

      The only way we will reverse our climate destiny, is to end wars and start real diplomacy among nations. A war against climate change but if we are to wage it, first thing is media that tells us the truths about wars all over the world. What we cannot see what will kill us unless we see what is killing us. Amen to you, Joe Lauria.

    Is it not all the same thing USA did in America when they stained the shores of this untainted beauty of a country with imperialism and colonialism and their presence? The rest of the world absolutely must RISE to this horrendous occasion. And say no to NATO and all countries who are in it. Correa, who gave sanction to Assange and was punished for it, who said no to a USA base in his country. No wonder they keep censoring and taking control of narrative. It is so obvious that US wants all the world’s resources under their command. Both Russia and China have a right to exist as do all other countries to control their own resources for the edification of their people.

    Russia tried for at least eight years to make its liberating SMO unnecessary, to keep relatively (relatively) peaceful relations with the Washington empire ongoing. It was the imperialist psychopaths of the West (“NATO”) who did everything in their power to make sure Moscow had to no choice but to intercede in the Donbas.

    Back in March a peace proposal that Moscow and Kiev approved of was on the table but the craven monsters in the form of Sullivan, Blinken, Sherman, and Nuland sent their BoJo poodle out to denounce it and torpedo it.

    There can be no compromise on Russian security requirements. The 4 oblasts and Crimea are already integrated into RF–not reversible. Ukraine is not a peaceful “democracy.” It is directed by a fascist, ethnosupremacist regime and a belligerent Washington. What is there to compromise?
    Washington has on numerous occasions in speech and in writing declared its goal of regime change in Moscow, and Ukraine is happy to be used as an instrument to that effect. Russia is fighting a war of liberation vs a violent empire.

      “Russia is fighting a war of liberation vs a violent empire.”

      Bingo. It’s something that both neocons (obviously) and the liberal intelligentsia (less obviously) simply can’t, or willingly refuse to, comprehend.
