WATCH: Lavrov Clashes With Western Foreign Ministers

At a contentious debate at the U.N. Security Council Thursday, Russian FM Sergei Lavrov pointedly gave Russia’s little-heard point of view in the West, and Western foreign ministers  responded harshly.

This is the entire meeting in English interpretation from UN TV.

It is interesting to note how the western intelligentsia seem a little lax in their understanding and knowledge of contemporary events as they unfold in the present standoff between Russia and the west. Take for example the much-rated Canadian intellectual Jordan Peterson who takes issue with the Russian authorities for their ‘invasion’ of a piece of land – the Crimea – which has pretty much always been Russian

Mr. Peterson recently made a reference to the Russian ‘invasion’ of the Crimea which allegedly took place in 2014. I hate to bring it to the attention of the readership, but no Russian invasion of the Crimea took place since the Russia navy as well as other occupation forces had already been in the Crimea since the reign of Catherine the Great. There was a small interlude when the Crimea was ‘gifted’ to Ukraine by the Soviet leader Nikita Kruschev in 1954. But even then it should also be understood that the Russian military held a lease on the various military installations which ran until 2045. It was somewhat difficult for the Russians for to invade Sevastopol and more generally Crimea when they were already there.

This being the case Putin decided to extend a referendum to all the eligible citizens who lived in the Crimea. The result was of course predictable. The Crimean people overwhelmingly endorsed the referendum and the Russianization – which was already a fait accompli became the final seal of approval.
But that wasn’t enough for Mr Peterson, or the western intelligentsia in general. Tut, tut, must try harder

It was hard to watch all the western pawns with glassy eyes parroting the mantras like the obedient cult members that they are. You really gotta feel sorry for the Russians in this situation, brainwashed people with weapons of mass destruction are really scary and they’re up against a major coallition of fascist power almost like we’ve never seen before. Let’s all thank Biden for WWIII.

Under the Empire of Lies we have been living in the age of lies. This dismay and disgust one feels is the “red pill” of waking up to the true nature of the world we live in.

The Russians helpfully post English transcripts of such speeches on the website of their foreign ministry. But of course, it might be hard to get to those from behind the Iron Curtain. As an American, I’d probably be tortured and executed for posting a link, but most search engines can still find the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I read this yesterday, and it is a powerful piece. Possibly better written than with a “un” English translator. The one I heard for Minister Lavrov’s speech from the podium of the UNGA made the delivery so bad that it was hard to comprehend. I need to go look to see if a transcript of that one is up yet. Not sure the english translators at the un are exactly un-biased in presenting the views of others into the language of the Five Eyes. They made that speech very hard to follow and appreciate. But what came through sounded very important. I gotta go read it.

One of the advantages of a VPN service is that you can pick which country you wish to view the internet from. A useful tool for Life During Wartime behind the Iron Curtain.

Dang, now I got a song in my head …. this ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no fooling around. :)

I love that the Russians have stopped messing around. Now, they are finally doing what’s been needed in this world ever since the Clintons bombed Serbia. Somebody loudly and clearly telling the truth about the crimes of Uncle Sam. No more diplomacy. No more hidden language about partners designed to both speak and maintain some sort of diplomatic relations.

Now, just a straight dose of speaking truth to power. Something a lifelong minion of power like Blinky would always find objectionable. Or, something the entire Party of Wall Street today finds objectionable.

Hmm, we can add that phrase to the list of things the Democrats no longer believe in.
    — Self Determination of People as a Basic Human Right
    — Speaking Truth to Power.

(that’s not the entire list. Only the couple of recent additions made obvious by recent events)

Listening to Mr. Blinken , one gets the impression that he is disturbed by the war in Ukraine.

But if that were true why does he support the escalation of the war by the US. We are throwing fuel on the fire by

providing all sorts of weapons. There are actually private contractors along with mercenaries more than willing to continue the murder and destruction.

He is a liar, a paid liar who seeks public approval , for the corruption of the United States of America.

His speech is. pure propaganda , which needs to be acknowledged.

Stop the war, stop debasing us Mr. Blinken

Mr. Blinken is nothing more than a corrupt, liar , a smooth talking example of superficial success but profound failure .

And make no mistake, he is a very dangerous man, traveling a dangerous road that may lead to nuclear armageddon.

Totally unqualified for the position he holds.

it is very refreshing to read the comments here criticizing u.s./western imperialism. but to see the propaganda that mainstream media spews out and the number of naive people swallowing it is extremely depressing.

  12. September 24, 2022 at 22:28

Now, the Russian Federation is selling tons of oil and natural gas to China and India, and those at discounted prices.

By contrast, the European bloc must pay higher prices for what energy supplies are available. That puts Europe at a huge competitive advantage against its trade competitors, as its costs of production will make its competitive pricing impossible.

The Euro now drops below the Dollar, while Russian rubles increase in their relative value.

How will the US fare when it’s chief trading partner (EU) becomes virtually disabled by next February?

UN TV which normally puts on its webpage and its YouTube channel entire meetings of the Security Council for some reason has not done this yet with this meeting. CN has always relied on UN TV to publish videos of UN meetings. However in this case all that was available with Lavrov and others speaking was this video from Sky News, which indeed has Lavrov’s voice too high to comfortably hear the English interpretation.

In 2010, Donbass and Crimea voted overwhelmingly for the guy we overthrew in 2014. Thus, their secession from the Nuland-Pyatt coup d’etat was valid.

Russia recognized this and now defends the rights of Russians who don’t want to be ruled over by crooks like Petroshenko and Zelensky, who have made ethnically charged statements about Russian inhabitants in the Donbass.

Moreover, Ukraine hasn’t since February of 2014 been under civilian rule, as Zelensky, elected on a peace platform, was threatened or scorned when he tried to get Ukrainian troops to follow the Minsk Accords. All of this has been banished from the corporate Western media.

Joe Lauria should start a subsidiary. Call it Radio Free America.

Putin had it right. The US is the empire of lies. It can’t acknowledge the truth of its long history of criminal behavior. Same with Europe. So they project onto Russia which is clearly defending itself from being obliterated as a sovereign state. When all you have are lies to prop up your crumbling empire, the end is not far off. Providing Washington doesn’t decide that its delusional perception of itself is more important than preserving life on earth.

  16. September 24, 2022 at 18:20

I would very much have liked to hear what Lavrov had to say, but the recording of both the russian along with the english translation were both broadcast at the same sound level so that one could not understand anything that was said. It was like trying to listen to two people talking equally loudly at the same time – impossible to comprehend. Is there some way for CN to make a contrast of the volume and tone down the foreign language and bring up the english?

It is interesting to observe how many allege that any food shortages are due to the war in Ukraine. Aaron Smith, the DeLoach Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Davis, published a series of articles analyzing what impact the war in Ukraine may have on the prices of commodities such as wheat, corn, soybeans, etc. Here is a direct quote from one of his articles: “the term ‘global shortage’ is an exaggeration and the claim ‘due to the war in Ukraine’ is false. Corn, wheat, and soybean prices are high, which means the world would like more of these commodities. Most of the price increases occurred prior to the invasion, so it is not attributable to the war.” Here is a link to one of Prof. Smith’s articles in case others are interested in learning the truth about yet another false claim about the war in Ukraine. hxxps://asmith.ucdavis.edu/news/russia-ukraine

Okay, so I got 30 seconds in and bailed after the first speaker was going on and on over “unspeakable” crimes committed in Ukraine, presumably by the Russians. I can imagine what came next. These fools act as if history started in February and no one has ever been at war.

One gets the impression that most important daily briefing to any Pope is the one he receives is from his bankers.

I watched all of this in great dismay thinking of all the countries the USA has invaded and the imprisonment of Julian Assange. When the United Nations CIC asked to bring charges against the US they were totally dismissed. And now they want us to believe all the torture charges against Russia without any real evidence. Russia says the people were tortured because they supported Russia.
I guess it is good that people are talking but it becomes a United Nations farce when the charges are so biased and selected.

In the name of Free Speech, you can not speak.
In the name of Democracy, you can not vote.

We ban diplomats, we ban TV channels. We ban any means by which people might hear words other than Emperor Joe’s. No words besides Emperor Joe’s may be heard … in the name of Freedom.

Where Voting might change things, no voting is allowed. Emperor Joe’s decrees can not be challenged. Crimea and Donbas belongs to our far right-wing friends, both Emperors Barrack and Joe have so decreed …. no voting shall be recognized … in the name of Democracy.

In the world of Freedom and Democracy, the Rule from the Emperor is that “Resistence is Futile”. That’s not what I believe, but it is clearly what America wants, from Emperor Joe to Bugs Bunny News (Warner/CNN)

Imagine spending scores of billions of dollars to kill Russian citizens on Russian soil by using American made weapons, American supplied advisors/trainers, and America’s multi- billion dollar C4ISR targeting network.

No imagine doing all of the above on behalf of a faraway Eastern European European border dispute that contains absolutely zero vital American strategic interests. Yes, just try to get your head around all of that madness and more.

Blinken is trying to sound like Obama. Listen to his pauses and phrasing and overall style. It’s embarrassingly revealing of someone who has no persona, no genuine inner reality, faking nobility of purpose , faking the authority of world ruler while his party and country flounder and resort to threats of nuclear war, because what they said would happen in Ukraine will not happen, and because Zelensky looks increasingly like a petty billionaire tyrant selling his country to Wall Street like a pimp.
