We’re lagging in our spring fundraiser, so I thought readers might want to see how we would spend $50,000 over the next three months. (Feel free to weigh in with a suggestion or make a donation.)
You also might want to direct a donation to a specific part of our budget. Or if you can afford to, you might consider paying for an entire item. Just follow up your donation with an e-mail to [email protected], and we’ll direct the money as you wish.
Our projected three-month budget looks like this:
--$5,000 to re-design and modernize the Web site. (Our plan is to move to a new platform, but some money also is needed to ensure that we can transfer our 15-year Archive without losing stories.)
--$10,000 to pay Ray McGovern, Lisa Pease and other writers a stipend for their work, though not nearly what they deserve.
--$22,500 for editor’s salary and other payroll costs.
--$5,000 to cover premiums for a modest health insurance plan.
--$4,000 to pay for travel and other expenses related to investigative projects.
--$3,500 for Internet and operational expenses, including accounting.
Given the fact that we operate a daily news organization – providing original articles and guest essays – it should be clear that we operate on a shoestring.
And I hope you agree that dollar for dollar, Consortiumnews.com is a remarkable value for those who believe that the world is in desperate need of independent journalism and reasoned analysis.
So, please give what you can. Contributions to our 501-c-3 non-profit are tax-deductible.
There are four ways you can help:
--By donating either by credit card at the Web site or by check – to Consortium for Independent Journalism (CIJ); Suite 102-231; 2200 Wilson Blvd.; Arlington VA 22201. Or you can use PayPal (our account is named after our e-mail address “[email protected]”).
--By signing up for a monthly donation. With contributions of $10 or more a month, you can qualify for war correspondent Don North’s new DVD, “Yesterday’s Enemies” about the lives of former Salvadoran guerrillas. For details, click here.
--By scheduling a joint speech by former CIA analyst Ray McGovern and journalist Robert Parry. The suggested fees – $2,000 for community groups, $5,000 for colleges and larger non-profits, and $10,000 for those who can afford it – go entirely to keeping Consortiumnews.com afloat.
--By buying the three-book set of Robert Parry’s Lost History, Secrecy & Privilege, and Neck Deep (co-authored with Sam and Nat Parry). The discount price is only $29. Our goal is to get as many of these books into libraries as possible. For details, click here.
As always, thanks for your support.
Robert Parry, Editor
Robert Parry broke many of the Iran-Contra stories in the 1980s for the Associated Press and Newsweek. He founded Consortiumnews.com in 1995 as the Internet's first investigative magazine. He saw it as a way to combine modern technology and old-fashioned journalism to counter the increasing triviality of the mainstream U.S. news media.
