Another Reason to Help This Web Site
By
Robert Parry
April 16, 2008 |
Since its founding in 1995, Consortiumnews.com has been an unusual force on the Internet. Unlike many Web sites, which “aggregate” stories from other sources, we originate most of the stories that you see at our site – including the work of American heroes like former CIA analyst Ray McGovern.
Our original journalism then gets re-posted at scores of other Web sites, helping to give the Internet both independence and vitality. We don’t just reflect mainstream journalism or criticize it; we seek to create a credible alternative to the mainstream.
Not that we’re perfect or that you’ll always agree with our take on every issue. But our record – often on difficult and complex topics – has stood the test of time.
Despite our limited resources, we have been right again and again – even as the well-funded establishment press has been wrong and wrong.
We would put our stories on the Iraq War or about Bush’s assault on the Constitution up against anyone’s. Our articles looking back on the Reagan-Bush years offer almost a parallel history to the conventional wisdom – and ours is much closer to the truth.
You can find this work in Consortiumnews.com’s archives – or in the books that we’ve produced from that reporting: Lost History; Secrecy & Privilege; and Neck Deep.
But for us to continue – for us to keep funding articles by Ray McGovern and the other talented writers you see at this site – we need your support. Right now, our spring fund-raising drive is about $9,000 short of its goal of $25,000.
So, please give what you can.

Robert Parry broke many of the Iran-Contra stories in the 1980s for the Associated Press and Newsweek. His latest book, Neck Deep: The Disastrous Presidency of George W. Bush, was written with two of his sons, Sam and Nat, and can be ordered at neckdeepbook.com. His two previous books, Secrecy & Privilege: The Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq and Lost History: Contras, Cocaine, the Press & 'Project Truth' are also available there.
