Our Crucial Year-End Fundraiser
Many people around the world responded to the election of Barack Obama with hope; others with relief that the American voters finally had repudiated the policies of George W. Bush. But what everyone must understand is that the situation remains fragile. The danger of sliding back is very real.
Only a well-informed people can make sure that the correct lessons are learned, that the old mistakes are not repeated, that the well-organized forces of reaction cannot fool enough of the people enough of the time.
That is why what we do at Consortiumnews.com is so important at this moment – and why we need your help.
Since 1995 – for 13 years now – we have challenged the misguided conventional wisdom of Washington. We have gone against the herd-like mentality, pointing out dangers and providing key facts. We made informing you – our readers – our first and only priority.
Whether it’s our investigative journalism or our news analyses, we try to arm our readers with the information they need to understand the day’s turbulent events.
That’s why we publish the insightful writings of former CIA analyst Ray McGovern and others who have both the inside knowledge of how the government works – and the courage to tell the truth.
That’s why my own investigative articles try to put today’s jumble of news in historical context, so you can make your own judgments based on as full a picture as possible.
But we can only continue our work with the support of our readers – and our coffers are running very low.
Because many people were sending what money they could to candidates during the campaign and because of the economic downturn, we have missed the targets of our past two fundraisers. So our end-of-year fundraiser is even more important than usual.
We have set a goal of $50,000.
Please contribute what you can. You can make a tax-deductible donation either by credit card online or by mailing a check. (For readers wanting to use PayPal, you can address contributions to our account, which is named "email@example.com").
For a donation of $100, we will send you a gift, autographed copy of Neck Deep in paperback (or another book by Robert Parry, either Lost History or Secrecy & Privilege – just ask for the substitution).
For a donation of $150 or more, we will send the hard cover of Neck Deep. (Or you can ask us to substitute, Robert Parry 1993 rare book, Trick or Treason: The October Surprise Mystery, while our limited supplies last.)
If you can’t donate right now, please help by forwarding our e-mail alerts to friends who might be interested in what we do.
As always, thanks for your support.
Robert Parry, Editor
Robert Parry broke many of the Iran-Contra stories in the 1980s for the Associated Press and Newsweek. He founded Consortiumnews.com in 1995 as the Internet's first investigative magazine. He saw it as a way to combine modern technology and old-fashioned journalism to counter the increasing triviality of the mainstream U.S. news media.
