Former British diplomat and intelligence officer Alastair Crooke speaks to CN Live! about war in the Middle East and the ways Western publics are deceived about it. Watch the replay.
Guest: Alastair Crooke. Interviewer: Joe Lauria. Producer: Cathy Vogan
War and deception have a long association. Donald Trump seems proud that he twice deceived the Iranians under cover of ongoing peace talks to launch military attacks against them. But it is not just the enemy that is deceived.
Carrying out an unpopular war of aggression for no legitimate reason usually requires deceiving your own public too. Thus the fake Gulf of Tonkin incident, Nazi SS soldiers dressed as Poles attacking a German radio station to start World War II, and the false story of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
In the unprovoked war against Iran, the big lie is that Tehran is on the verge of getting a nuclear weapon while being the biggest sponsor of terrorism. Iran is presented as a threat to Israel and the U.S. rather than an obstacle to their expansionism. This deception comes atop layers of falsehoods about the founding of the state of Israel and its regional ambitions, the nature of resistance to it and the identity of the aggressor.
To speak with us today about these matters is Alastair Crooke. Alastair is a former British diplomat and intelligence officer with long experience in the Middle East and elsewhere. Crooke established Conflicts Forum in 2004 with the aim of helping western governments understand Islamist groups and their military resistance to Israel.

My heartfelt thanks to ConsortiumNews, Joe Lauria, Alastair Crooke and everyone else involved in yet another highly informative and very much appreciated discussion. Thank You.
It’s worth the wait to hear Mr. Alastair Crooke enfold the most recent developments into the unfolding larger view of what is happening. Thank you for this opportunity to swim around the flotsam & jetsam dumped into mainstream media to bog us down.
The cracked old pages in the moldy-oldy playbook still refer in the fine print to the Project for a New American Century. US top Hegemon. All others subservient. Capable to fight two regional wars simultaneously along with smaller skirmishes while prepping for the ultimate “cage-fight” with the People’s Republic. Bollocks.
At the apogee of human ingenuity & innovation (so far) we find ourselves embroiled in medieval religious wars fueled by messianic fervor. A nuclear powder-keg trembles while astronauts take another swing around the moon.

If a President of the United States wants to go to war, the CIA will find a reason.
I learned a lot from this interview.
I did too. Especially the formation of Iran from southern Lebanon.
Super-powers never have supervision.
