Daniel Ellsberg, John Kiriakou, Lee Camp and Many More in Marathon Assange Vigil

Unity4J held an online vigil from Friday and through Monday morning after two sources in the Ecuadorian government told WikiLeaks it can expect Julian Assange to be expelled from the London Embassy within “hours or days.”

Among the guests who joined the #ProtectJulian webcast to discuss the latest threat from Ecuador, were famed Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg; CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou; comedians Lee Camp and Ron Placone; former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel; journalists Jose Rivera, Dmitry Babich, Gareth Porter, Cassandra Fairbanks (from outside the embassy), Margaret Kimberley and Patrick Henningsen; former CIA analyst Ray McGovern; activists Margaret Flowers, Kevin Zeese, and Niko House; academics Piers Robinson and many more. The hosts were Elizabeth Vos, Suzie Dawson, Vivian Kubrick and Joe Lauria. The vigil can be seen here:

Amnesty, Human Right Watch, are you sleeping? Julian Assange is in danger! The threat to Julian Assange is a threat to all journalists, and to the right of all people to know what their governments are up to.

Ecuador please continue to protect Mr Assange. I believe there is little chance he will get a fair hearing in the US. He has done the world a great service and committed no crime.

Thank you, all participants in this vigil, and those assembled in London. Your vigil is a testimony to the survival as well as the critical danger to the values of humanity and of democracy.

I should think that the escape of Assange would serve the purposes of Ecuador well enough, and his exile to Russia would satisfy those in the US anxious to accuse him and Russia of conspiring.

Julian Assange needs more than token “thoughts and wishful magical thinking, he needs the type of intelligent courageous actions that he has demonstrated on our behalf, to now be taken on his behalf by all of us. JUST DO IT!!
    as Usual,

I first learned about Assange in 2008 or 2009 when the “Collateral Murder” came out. I guess ‘they’ knew Julian could not be charged with journalism. So Sweden brought two misdemeanor sexual misbehavior charges.
(#1 A female guest in his hotel room claimed the rubber broke and he finished the stroke.
(#2 Another time a lady complained that Julian woke her in the middle of the night for another round.
Both women dropped the charges year ago. Anyway, when in the history of civilization have such ever charges caught the eye of the international community?

So, here we are about a decade later and the charges against Assange most of us are led to believe have to do with colluding with Russia in hacking Shrillary’s private emails back in 2016. According to the indictment Assange is charged with colluding with Manning to steal government secrets.

NOW! I read that the prosecutor in Sweden may reopen their original charges. That’s good news, because this tells me the U.S. case is too weak.

Sorry to interrupt, the persecution of Mr. Assange was ordered by the Executive Branch of the United States of America’s government more than several years ago. If the then Leftist President of Ecuador had not furnished a safe harbor , Julian Assange would have been rendered into obscurity a long time ago. . WHATEVER HAPPENED TO FORMER BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT LULA> A man of much more import , with a record of success and favorable public approval, with just by coincidence, no guilt or malfeasance whatsoever??? Where is the PROTEST? It is official policy now and it is obviously acceptable to all that Lula is incarcerated. US Policy supports this application of injustice. Assange was a reckless libertine. He should have been more circumspect in his behavior. He knew that “THEY” were closing in on him. Arrogance is bad. See Trump. Tilting at wind mills is always fun for some crazy people here and there, then and now but it don’t pay the rent. What about the real world that we all live in? Is there so little perspective …..

What a pretty pass is this when people with the courage to speak the truth are tortured and imprisoned while those in power lie and deny. Without access to the truth democracy dies.

On The Street Where You Live: You could sing along with Dean Martin on youtube – but I’ve heard McGovern sing, and I bet he could do this a cappella!

There’s a London street where hypocrisy-
Has betrayed an honest man inside an embassy.

Those who orchestrate vile crimes of state,
Seek to crush any brush with the truth.

There were evil schemes and unholy acts.
All the documents released confirmed atrocious facts.

Do the lies deceive or do fools believe,
What excuse frames abuse of the truth?

And oh, disclosures revealing, conjure tales of heinous deceit-
The carnage lies are concealing, unrepentant in their arrogant conceit!

People stop and stare, do they wonder why-
Do they share a troubled moment and identify?

As the time goes by does it horrify?
What’s ignored and deplored is the truth.

    [instrumental interlude]

On that london street plays a travesty-
There’s a man who ripped the mask off empire’s vanity.

As the time goes by does it horrify?
What’s ignored and deplored is the truth.
No one cares or despairs for the truth.
No one cares or despairs for the truth.

The threat to Julian Assange is a threat to all journalists, and to the right of all people to know what their governments are up to. The US is behind everything that has been happening to Assange since he was originally pursued by Swedish law enforcement. With the help of a coomplicit Swedish intelligence apparatus and a subservient British government, he has been trapped in a Kafkaesque “prison” in the Ecuadoran embassy, after the US used heavy-handed tactics, including the forcing down of the Bolivian president’s plane in Austria in a futile search for Assange. Since then the US has used equally heavy-anded tactics to try to bully the sovereign Ecuadoran government to violate its own historic honoring of national independence to get it to revoke Assange’s asylum. The whole story has been a sickening example of US imperialism and must be halted.

Rev. William Barber is a powerful Christian leader in the US who might be interested in supporting Julian. I posted a request on his facebook page after Margaret Kimberley suggested recruiting a religious leader to help us get Julian freed. https://www.facebook.com/RevDrBarber/

Where do I find the running comments during the vigil? They do not appear on the Unity4J.com site.
Elizabeth asked us to pose questions for the guests but I don’t see a place to enter them on the screen of Unity4J.com.
    Thank you.
