A truly brave person, Chelsea Manning.

We have very few like her.

There clearly would a lot less crap in America – lies and unnecessary wars and dark secrecy around them – if we had more like her.

But you don’t get decency with empire. All the rewards for careers go for displaying other qualities.

If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, it is Chelsea.

    But, it won’t happen.

The Nobel people are as intimidated today as the UN is about doing anything that might embarrass the US, the way Martin Luther King’s prize did.

    The prizes have become meaningless.

Yes, any prizes, recognition, wealth, and power under the dictatorship of the rich prove only abandonment of humanity for personal gain. Only independent recognition of virtue and achievement have any meaning until democracy is restored.

Great to hear you all and Greg Palast. I feel sick in the stomach that Chelsea Manning is back in jail. Thankyou ConsortiumNews.

I see Glenn Greenwald is calling out the corporate media for ignoring Chelsea Manning going back to jail in support of Wikileaks, but that’s not quite true:

MSNBC’s Brian Williams was gloating about it, calling Manning and Paul Manifort “strange bed-comrades” (deliberately altering the expression “strange bedfellows” because of Russia, don’t you know) as they’re both now being held in the same Federal lock-up.

Please, who ever it is who makes these choices, don’t “dead frame” Chelsea with a picture portraying her as she was before her transition. This is the same thing as “dead naming” her or misgendering her with the wrong gender pronouns.

There are plenty of photos of her recently to use for the thumbnail for this article.

The last thing this true American Heroine needs is for those supporting her to be undermining her gender. Recall that doing that was one way the state tortured her while she was in prison for whistle blowing the truth about American war crimes.

Indeed. The usage of that caricature rather than one of the many photos of her as Chelsea that are available indicates at worst, blatant transphobia and at best, shocking ignorance on the part of such a authority-challenging, trailblazing website. Editor???

When this, thoroughly rotten to the core, US Empire which is totally devoid of any sense of morality or aherence to justice & International laws, collapses in a hig dung heap of debt, Imperial hubris & Military overreach, heroes such as Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning & other courageous whistle blowers will go down in History & be remembered & honoured for their brave stands against evil people & Nations, such as the US, by calling out their vile, disgusting behaviour, War crimes against humanity & shocking lack of any humanity or conscience? America has surpassed & supplanted Nazi Germany in its perverted attempt at full spectrum domination? Trump may well be the last US President of a Nation that is in such serious & obvious decline that it can’t be allowed to continue as it is & must be stopped? I give America 20 yrs, at most, before it totally destroys itself by rotting from the inside or is destroyed by others World powers, on the outside, who will reach a conclusion that this Evil Empire needs to go into a unipolar sunset, permanently & forever!

Note what Craig Murray has to say about all of this. For those who are unaware, he is actually the person who delivered the thumb drive to Julian Assange and to my knowledge has never been questioned by the FBI.

Also if you visit the link note the comments, they are always interesting…

Mr. Van Noy, how do you know that Craig Murray was the source of the thumb drive to Julian Assange? I have tried to keep up with this story as best I can, but this is big news to me. Do you have a story I can link to? I would very much appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you.

Thanks for your continuing efforts to free Julian Assange!

That said, I have an editorial concern: on the home page, this article displays a thumbnail image: a cartoonish portrait of Chelsea Manning in uniform, prior to her sex change. It’s incongruous and frankly inappropriate.

I appreciate that this was Manning’s appearance when she first gained international notice, but I think that at this point, there are better images to use than a “Bradley” Manning caricature. It’s an odd choice at best.

No. Chelsea was a Transgender Women then who hadn’t yet transitioned. What you just did is called “Dead Naming” and it is like calling Mohammed Ali by his previous name. It is disrespectful and hurtful.

Right now we should be doing everything to support Chelsea, including supporting her in her gender. Where is she being held in prison, with men or with women? Are they forcing her to use male standard grooming like they did before? Such treatment is not just mean, it is dangerous for a Transgender Woman. By justifying thinking of her as the wrong gender she once presented, we are quietly aiding such mistreatment if it is happening.

Something is rotten in our country when our elected leaders are so afraid of the truth and are so lacking in integrity that they ruthlessly pursue anyone willing to stand up and expose them as the traitors they really are. The Republicans in the Senate are there for one reason only: to protect the wealthy and insure their own personal gain. They couldn’t care less about the 98% of citizens of this country who are struggling every day just to survive. We as a nation must wake up and really look at what we are willing to allow from the Republican Senate, and require them to swear oaths of loyalty to our citizens instead of paying homage and loyality to a despot potus who has no loyalty to our once respected country. Shame on us!

It was HRC who said “Can’t we just drone this guy?” in reference to Julian Assange. You are mistaken to think the problem lies only with the Republican Senate. The Democrats will give you the Forever War with non gender specific restrooms. Is that a major win for you? You are delusional to think they will do you any real good. The DNC is just as bought as the RNC. Shame on you if you keep buying into their BS.

Sadly, excepting a handful of progressive individuals (Tulsi Gabbard, OAC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, (sometimes) Warren, Bernie and Rand Paul) BOTH parties are corrupt pay-to-play Wall Street sycophants and warmongers. The Blue Wave last year included 11 “ex-” military agents (about double the constantly advertised progressives) and we find out that Kamala Harris refused to prosecute Mnuchin for predatory lending practices that destroyed the lives of thousands! Imagine the uproar if Kamala was a Republican? There is no real difference in the Duopoly. Pick the candidates you vote for carefully; if none are good, don’t vote!

Post JFK America has become so deeply corrupted that it now must find a way to begin again by reasserting first amendment rights, reassessing the depth of political corruption, and rebuilding the rule of law. If we can’t win this battle of fundamental truth over institutionalized injustice, too much will be lost to rescue our form of Democracy. I’m afraid it is that simple…

Conscientious whistleblowers pointing out murderous actions, fraud and corruption were tolerated (if not celebrated) by Americans and as Tulsi Gabbard noted (to derision of course), wikileaks has “spurred some necessary change.” Unfortunately that is no longer the prevalent view, we now live in an evidence-free society genuflecting to CIA narratives (RUSSIANS!!! RUSSIANS!!! RUSSIANS!!!). Barack Obama imprisoned more whistleblowers than all other Presidents combined, sending a message that only authorized leaks (mostly for political games) would be tolerated, and wrongdoing and embarrassing stupidity must be kept secret at all costs. Unfortunately I see Trump following Obama’s lead in the Police State; it is the New Normal in America.

No doubt the oh so progressive and ethical Democrats in Congress who have recently fallen all over themselves in their rush to shamelessly vilify Omar, crush free speech and kiss AIPACs derriere will now hurry to Chelsea’s defense exhibiting that same righteous vigor. . . . . NOT!

I didn’t think my respect for Ms. Manning could grow any greater, but it now has yet again. Until the Omar incident I didn’t think my contempt for the Democratic Party’s pathetic hacks could possibly increase, yet somehow again it has!

The rot that has been endemic in the Democratic Party is now a stinking open wound for all to see. But will the zombified true blue dems be able to wipe their eyes at last and see what their party really stands for, and how corrupt it is?

Let’s hope Manning stands tall against our murderous Rulers. They are using Assange and her as examples of what befalls those disclosing their criminal secrets. They are pretending that it is patriotic to persecute those who disclose state secrets. But the truth is just the opposite. Those who uncover and disclose the secret crimes of the Rulers are our true patriots.

Exactly. I am very familiar with the fake patriotism of federal employees in DOJ and the judiciary, who are in fact nearly all traitors. Their only allegiance is to gold. Every one of their statements is a tribalist fraud to secure benefits for themselves from party bagmen and operatives.

If USA is going anywhere it’s down the toilet! I pray that America will change its ways, but i am certain it will NOT! After John F Kennedy was murderd the toilet bowl was flushed, America is going around and around before it disappear. China been here for over 1000 years and America less then 300 years.

Excellent presentation: speakers, statements, ideas, production, all excellent. This is becoming an historic demonstration against the degeneration of our former democracies under the influence of unregulated economic power.
