Thank you for this important newscast. Is it ok to re-broadcast this on Radio Occupy SB? The purpose is to get the word out. Ours is a non-profit radio program run by citizen journalists at KCSB.

Prayers will go out to Julian from me. Contrast the contribution he has made with the incompetence of CIA losing their agents in China and Iran. Could much of ths persecution be a deflection away fron the rot at the top of Intel?

    Another slogan suggestion:

    FREE JULIAN ASSANGE
    FREE PRESS HERO

    Another strategy suggestion:

Most news consumers are not aware that the MSM is omitting central facts and analyses. Each of us can educate commenters at mainstream media websites (such as ABC News, PBS Newshour, New York Times, etc.) about this. Become a member of such a community, interact, and post comments with links to relevant Consortium News articles. Those commenters are politically interested, and can become informed by rational, informative posts. (Rants will have a reverse effect with people not already in the choir.) The journalists and editors at those sites can also be gradually moved by a steady stream of comments with solid evidence of their cover-up.

Ray´s concern for the lack of presence of Assange´s supporters at the embassy should be a priority for all. Doesn´t have to be one or the other – people can be making their voices heard in front of Harrods while other groups (more importantly) keep a 24 hr. vigil at the embassy itself.

People are asking for a short explainer on the history and current situation facing Assange. Others are also asking about actions which may be taken on behalf of Assange. Please find that information here:

    https://justice4assange.com/

Thank you to every person who has the honor to fight for another person’s human rights. These rights are not dependent on whether one likes a person or hates them. They accrue to us as human beings. I see that many “journalists” in the MSM do not understand this simple concept nor do they have the honor necessary to act on behalf of their fellow human being.

I think JA should announce he’s leaving the embassy on a certain date and ask thousands to swarm the location with many as JA lookalikes. He’ll disappear into the crowd and be spirited away to a safe house. PC Plod won’t dare to arrest him. Sure they’ll try and follow him with choppers and drones but if it’s done properly he’ll get away.

Hypothetically, I wonder what would happen if the American people ever refused to voluntarily pay the federal income tax? Just wondering hypothetically.

The complexity and scale of the extensive scaffold suggests major refurbishement works to the front elevation. In addittion the scaffolding appears to be protected by an intruder type alarm system which may be a statutory requirement in this part of London or requirement of the works insurers. This type of system would be protected by movement, PIR or heat sensors attached to the scaffold poles with ancillary equipment like control units, key pads and siren/strobe unit. The sensors would be located to establish a detection zone usually on the first lift of the scaffolding above ground level. The sensors would be wireless or hard wired back to a control unit located in a secure position. The system itself would be centrally monitored or remote monitored via a landline or GSM. The scaffold structure should display large clear warning signs to show the scaffold is protected including details of the installer.
The photos appear to show the following:
    1. A variety of units attached to the scaffold poles which could be detectors.
    2. A siren/strobe unit (white triangular type housing) attached to the scaffold.
    3. Extensive wiring taped to the poles connected to the detector units.
    4. A warning sign attached to the scaffold.
    5. The equipment is located on the first lift of the scaffold.

All of the components appear to comprise the rudiments of a scaffold alarm system but each item would need to be identified and verified as a functioning alarm industry standard product.

The extensive scaffold to the building and protection of the sidewalk or pavement underneath would suggest major works to the front elevation. However from the photos it could appear that the building is in a state of reasonable repair and decoration!

    sent:
Dear Embassies and Consulates of Ecuador,

Thank you for your efforts thus far to keep  the heroic journalist  Julian Assange  safe from harm in your London Embassy.

Won’t you now  please help Mr. Assange be protected in travel to a safe country of his choice ?

Please stand up and show the  world that Ecuador will not be bullied, nor will it cave, to U..S. pressure.

    respectfully,

Kim Louth, a concerned U,.S. citizen

I think you may be getting confused with this ‘surveillance’ meme.
the hexagonal plastic box identified as a ‘router’ looks to be a typical burglar alarm casing, with a blue light on the underside. The company that installed the equipment were kind enough to leave a large sign up to advertise their work :
    SDS Alarms – even a telephone number 0845 686 0007.
if you vist their web site at sdsalarms.co.uk you can see photos of their scaffolding alarm systems.
I feel sure that UK/US intelligence services will have had the embassy and Julian’s rooms bugged for many years without having to resort to such obvious means…

Kudos to those who have organized the ongoing demo in front of the Ec. embassy.
I hope Julian will be able to hear them and will know that people are coming to his defense.
To me, that would be one of the most important aims of the action: To do something that Julian can hear.

I respectfully suggest not dissing Harrods, the location of the demo.
It is a huge distraction and red herring, and risks alienating potential supporters.
People may have different political agendas and material status in life, but ALL need to protect freedom of expression and the press and basic human and civil rights.
Dissing Harrods and the people who shop there sounds small-minded and IMO is counterproductive.
Anyone can go into Harrods and look around. Just as anyone can drive through Newport and look at the magnificent mansions, without throwing eggs at them.
Keep the focus on the real reason for the demo: Protecting Julian and reminding the public of the importance of everyone’s rights.

A lot of comments on this thread have been deleted.
Specifically, comments criticizing the dreadful new font.

How is it that any country could extradite to the U.S.? Don’t most civilised countries forbid to extradite to death penalty states?

In my opinion, the demonic Treatment of Julian Assange is no different to the punishment meted out to Khashoggi?? One was killed in a Embassy by a brutal, sadistic & murderous regime at the highest level by the Saudi Govt! The other, Assange, is also being killed in a Embassy, via a death by a thousand cuts, a slow motion suicide using mental torture & intimidation by the US & UK! Just as Khashoggi was a danger to the establishment, so is Assange? ‘Khashoggi ‘s Death was sickening & horrific in its brutality but at least he died quickly? Assange is being murdered in a slow motion, torturous fashion by the US Govt & the UK Govt, the two powers being complicit in supporting the murderous Saudi Arabia by selling billions of dollars in Weapons to enable tyrants to kill millions! America & the UK have blood on their hands? They are war criminals with the blood of millions of innocents in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan & Yemen staining their filthy hands! They are responsible for Khashoggi, a journalist & his cruel death by their sordid association with the Saudi’s & will be responsible for the Death of Assange, another journalist! This must not be allowed to happen!! People need to make the connection between Khashoggi ‘s death & the death dealing Treatment that Assange is being driven too!! With Khashoggi death being unable to be swept under the carpet by the corrupt UK & US Govts, readers of CN need to bombard their Embassies & HIGHLIGHT a LINK between the two journalist with the goal of causing maximum embarrassment & shame to these corrupt Countries that enabled this demented situation! At the end of the day, people are suckers for the truth despite the BS shovelled down their throats by lying Politicians & Govts! People should not be afraid of their Govt’s, Governments should be afraid of their people!

I wonder if we couldnt Amasse so many people in such large numbers that would SWAMP the ENTIRE London area, including the embassy, so that Julian can be camaflouged and whisked out of the embassy under the anonymity of the crowd into another safe house where he can eventually be protected and saved. Regardless of the mass survellience, the People are so much more powerful than these sociopaths in charge.

The people have been more powerful than oligarchy when informed and very angry, which the oligarchies of developed nations have become able to prevent. But a small well-prepared group might do the job here.

I just read the article about the scaffolding and attempted break in. I find this alarming. My first thought: surround the embassy 24/7 with those who want to protect Assange.

It is my sense that the public, in the UK, Equador, the US and perhaps elsewhere need to understand what can happen to any individual if a government targets them for silencing. There is the wide misconception that democracies, and in particular the US and UK, don’t target individuals. Understanding that even Obama participates (or participated) fully in actions in violation of human rights, international law is paramount. Op Eds in major newspapers around the world about this most recent incident will also provide an opportunity to remind the public of which governments and individuals in high places would silence Assange and why.

    November 3, 2018 at 21:13

May I respectfully suggest that individuals have a handout with email links to chosen articles explaining the background to Julian’s being in the Ecuadorian embassy, the US (President Obama) and UK threats and what would happen to Julian if he is secreted away from a safe haven.

Freedom of the press and protection of journalists is at stake as is the life of one individual who made it his mission to expose wrongdoing.

I think handing out a one-page leaflet describing the essence of Julian’s predicament, along with some links/references to additional information, would make banging on pots & pans at Harrods much more effective. (Maybe Caitlin Johnstone could help write it.)

Please email the embassies and consulates of Ecuador, thank them for their help so far, and ask very politely that Mr. Assange be protected in travel to a safe country of his choice. I have done this and asked for his protection and transport to a country of his choice. Here is an email list for their 13 consulates in the US (I will give the “@” as “AT” to prevent this comment going into moderation a second time):

Wikileaks is one of the major contributions to humanity in the history of the human race. Whenever a wealthy elite has arisen, predators have risen to its head, and have preyed upon the rest of the population. The costs of doing this business include (1) bribing some of the non-elite to do their dirty work among the 99%, and (2) getting rid of dissenters, since the truth might bring on a rebellion against injustice. The purpose of enshrining press freedom in the US Constitution is to block oligarchy move #2.

Wikileaks is completely legal by the precedent established in the Pentagon Papers case. Assange is a legitimate publisher who handled leaked information in a highly responsible and professional way. But historically, Wikileaks is the biggest truth threat the predatory elite have faced in the history of the human race.

A person’s position on Julian Assange’s freedom indicates clearly whether they side with the corrupt financial elite or with the 99%.

This is most helpful for we Americans to know the latest on this man who has changed the world in a most courageous way.

  27. November 3, 2018 at 17:51

Is it not possible to challenge the conditions of isolation under which Assange is held. If he is staying there for his own protection and legally why is he treated as a prisioner? All point to the U.S. government as the ultimate fear but is the U.S. not a democratic country with laws that protect whistleblowers ?
It would be interesting to read the legal basis for the justification for all this.

The US court is secret, and is using recent “national security” laws abrogating constitutional rights. We are to close our eyes and assume that the US would never do that. Otherwise we would be disloyal, you see, to our anti-democratic oligarchy. Glory be to Gold!

The awful public torture and punishment of Julian Assange and the attempted destruction of Wikileaks, coordinated with a global smear and disinformation campaign, in a city reputed to be a major center of Western democracy, has become a horrifying spectacle to behold. Shame on the journalists who collaborate in this. But this is an indictment of all of us. Rise up and free Julian Assange!
