Is MSNBC Now the Most Dangerous Warmonger Network?

A recent study revealed that MSNBC’s coverage of ‘Russiagate’ vastly outweighs its coverage of other issues, such as the US-backed humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and the network’s refusal to correct the disparity could lead to dangerous conclusions, notes Norman Solomon.

By Norman Solomon

The evidence is damning. And the silence underscores the arrogance.

The MSNBC logo (Wikipedia)

More than seven weeks after a devastating report from the media watch group FAIR, top executives and prime-time anchors at MSNBC still refuse to discuss how the network’s obsession with Russia has thrown minimal journalistic standards out the window.

FAIR’s study, “MSNBC Ignores Catastrophic U.S.-Backed War in Yemen,” documented a picture of extreme journalistic malfeasance at MSNBC:

— “An analysis by FAIR has found that the leading liberal cable network did not run a single segment devoted specifically to Yemen in the second half of 2017. And in these latter roughly six months of the year, MSNBC ran nearly 5,000 percent more segments that mentioned Russia than segments that mentioned Yemen.”

— “Moreover, in all of 2017, MSNBC only aired one broadcast on the U.S.-backed Saudi airstrikes that have killed thousands of Yemeni civilians. And it never mentioned the impoverished nation’s colossal cholera epidemic, which infected more than 1 million Yemenis in the largest outbreak in recorded history.”

— “All of this is despite the fact that the U.S. government has played a leading role in the 33-month war that has devastated Yemen, selling many billions of dollars of weapons to Saudi Arabia, refueling Saudi warplanes as they relentlessly bomb civilian areas and providing intelligence and military assistance to the Saudi air force.”

Meanwhile, MSNBC’s incessant “Russiagate” coverage has put the network at the media forefront of overheated hyperbole about the Kremlin. And continually piling up the dry tinder of hostility toward Russia boosts the odds of a cataclysmic blowup between the world’s two nuclear superpowers.

In effect, the programming on MSNBC follows a thin blue party line, breathlessly conforming to Democratic leaders’ refrains about Russia as a mortal threat to American democracy and freedom across the globe. But hey—MSNBC’s ratings have climbed upward during its monochrome reporting, so why worry about whether coverage is neglecting dozens of other crucial stories? Or why worry if the anti-Russia drumbeat is worsening the risks of a global conflagration?

FAIR’s report, written by journalist Ben Norton and published on Jan. 8, certainly merited a serious response from MSNBC and the anchors most identified by the study, Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes. Yet no response has come from them or network executives. (Full disclosure: I’m a longtime associate of FAIR.)

In the aftermath of the FAIR study, a petition gathered 22,784 signers and 4,474 individual comments—asking MSNBC to remedy its extreme imbalance of news coverage. But the network and its prime-time luminaries Maddow and Hayes refused to respond despite repeated requests for a reply.

The petition was submitted in late January to Maddow and Hayes via their producers, as well as to MSNBC senior vice president Errol Cockfield and to the network’s senior manager in charge of media relations for “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “All In with Chris Hayes.”

Signers responded to outreach from three organizations—Just Foreign Policy, RootsAction.org (which I coordinate), and World Beyond War—calling for concerned individuals to “urge Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, and MSNBC to correct their failure to report on the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen and the direct U.S. military role in causing the catastrophe by signing our petition.” (The petition is still gathering signers.)

As the cable news network most trusted by Democrats as a liberal beacon, MSNBC plays a special role in fueling rage among progressive-minded viewers toward Russia’s “attack on our democracy” that is somehow deemed more sinister and newsworthy than corporate dominance of American politicians (including Democrats), racist voter suppression, gerrymandering and many other U.S. electoral defects all put together.

At the same time, the anti-Russia mania also services the engines of the current militaristic machinery.

It’s what happens when nationalism and partisan zeal overcome something that could be called journalism.

“The U.S. media’s approach to Russia is now virtually 100 percent propaganda,” the independent journalist Robert Parry wrote at the end of 2017, in the last article published before his death. “Does any sentient human being read the New York Times’ or the Washington Post’s coverage of Russia and think that he or she is getting a neutral or unbiased treatment of the facts?”

Parry added that “to even suggest that there is another side to the story makes you a ‘Putin apologist’ or ‘Kremlin stooge.’ Western journalists now apparently see it as their patriotic duty to hide key facts that otherwise would undermine the demonizing of Putin and Russia. Ironically, many ‘liberals’ who cut their teeth on skepticism about the Cold War and the bogus justifications for the Vietnam War now insist that we must all accept whatever the U.S. intelligence community feeds us, even if we’re told to accept the assertions on faith.”

Across a U.S. media landscape where depicting Russia as a fully villainous enemy is now routine, MSNBC is a standout. The most profound dangers from what Rachel Maddow and company are doing is what they least want to talk about—how the cumulative effects and momentum of their work are increasing the likelihood that tensions between Washington and Moscow will escalate into a horrendous military conflict.

Even at the height of the Cold War during the 1960s, when Soviet Communists ruled Russians with zero freedom of speech or press, most U.S. political and media elites recognized the vital need for détente. They applauded the “Spirit of Glassboro” when the top leadership of the United States and Russia met at length. Now, across most of the U.S. media spectrum, no such overtures to the Kremlin are to be tolerated.

The U.S. government’s recently released “Nuclear Posture Review” underscores just how unhinged the situation has become.

Consider the assessment from the head of a first-rate research organization in the nuclear weapons field, the Los Alamos Study Group. Its executive director, Greg Mello, said: “What is most ‘missing in action’ in this document is civilian leadership. Trump is not supplying that. In part the fault for this comes from Democrats—who, allied with the intelligence community and other military-industrial interests, insist that the U.S. must have an adversarial relationship with Russia. There is no organized senior-level opposition to the new Cold War, which is intensifying week by week. This document reflects, and is just one of many policies embodying, the new and very dangerous Cold War.”

But—with everyone’s survival at stake—none of that seems to matter much to those who call the shots at MSNBC.

Norman Solomon is the coordinator of the online activist group RootsAction.org and the executive director of the Institute for Public Accuracy. He is the author of a dozen books including “War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death.” Solomon was a member of the independent task force that wrote the recent report “Autopsy: The Democratic Party in Crisis.” [This article was originally published at Truthdig (www.truthdig.com).]

What a disappointment. We need more attention to Yemen and we are given (in my case by Julian Assange) a link to an article about FAIR study by Ben Norton. Subjects worth discussing and catchy title, then an article that is full on propaganda protesting propaganda. I guess I will have to go to Fox News to get less warmongering support in re Yemen – I know Trump is moving swiftly to correct that crisis. Not. But now I know that Maddow et al are driving us toward catastrophic conflict with Russia. Whew! Now I know to let the Trumps off the burner about that Russia thing of his own. Not so important that. And we know we shouldn’t be focusing on that anyway – many indictments/guilty pleas later we know this administration virtually free of corruption – at least compared to the evil you-know-who that almost won. Oh, that’s not right either. Hmm. So then I go to Ben Norton’s Real News Network and see story after story about Russia – and yes one Bernie Sanders story related to Yemen. Good work there. The site does look interesting and plan to go back to check it out. Just hope it is not as blatently propganda as this article.

Democrats have ZERO to offer their base in policy. Democrats who voted to give Trump near trillion for more WAR. Democrats who have done ZERO for Dreamers. Democrats who voted to continue SPYING on Americans and Democrats who just voted to deregulate banks.

All they have is their chief PROPAGANDIST in-house sociopath Maddow to bang on and on about Trump and to accelerate hatred toward a foreign power who was not at fault for Democratic party, FBI, DOJ, DHS, CIA OBAMA, DNC primary rigging and election fraud.
It is insulting with all the fraud I witnessed, for the political elite and the liars in the intelligence agencies, to try to tell me that I refused to vote for Clinton because some troll farm in St. Petersburg was putting ads on FB??
    IT IS INSANE.
And war is where it’s at with BUSH era NEOCONS like liar in chief Brennan who is now foreign policy analyst at MSNBC?? He and the rest involved in this HOAX belong behind bars for TREASON in trying to over throw the democratically elected leader of the US. whether you like him or not!! But over throwing governments is what Clinton Obama and the CIA do best right?..
And when will Sessions awaken from his nap and get some investigating going?…
    Insane….

Maybe Consortium News should go ahead and publish my response to Abe and put it to a vote to see if other posters find it too controversial. I stand by the truths and am viewing Consortium News in a new, less optimistic light. Those events I stated are historical facts.

CN already published your “response” (above) and my reply will be posted in turn. Please note that lengthy comments tend to be delayed by the site’s SPAM detector algorithms.

But hey, so glad to hear that “very, very, very small minority” of yours “is not restricted to Jews”.

      Back to non-controversial historical facts.

Israeli revisionist Zionist propaganda celebrates the “Balfour Declaration” as if it were an “Agreement” to establish a Zionist Jewish state in Palestine.

The noun “agreement” has three meanings:

      1. harmony or concord of opinion or action
      2. An arrangement, treaty or compact as to a course of action
      3. A contract duly executed and legally binding

Historically, the decision to release the Balfour Declaration was taken by the British War Cabinet on 31 October 1917, following discussion at four British War Cabinet meetings (including the 31 October meeting) over the space of the previous two months.

Excerpts from the minutes of the four British War Cabinet meetings (including the 31 October meeting) provide a description of the primary factors that the ministers considered, and what they “agreed” upon:

31 October 1917: “[Balfour] stated that he gathered that everyone was now agreed that, from a purely diplomatic and political point of view, it was desirable that some declaration favourable to the aspirations of the Jewish nationalists should now be made. The vast majority of Jews in Russia and America, as, indeed, all over the world, now appeared to be favourable to Zionism. If we could make a declaration favourable to such an ideal, we should be able to carry on extremely useful propaganda both in Russia and America.”

The “agreed” version of the declaration, a single sentence of just 67 words, was sent on 2 November 1917 in a short letter from Balfour to British banker Lionel Walter Rothschild, scion of the international Rothschild financial dynasty, for transmission to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. The first Jewish peer in England, Lord Rothschild was an active Zionist and close friend of Chaim Weizmann.

The Balfour Declaration contained four clauses, of which the first two promised to support “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”, followed by two “safeguard clauses” with respect to “the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine”, and “the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country”.

The term “national home” was intentionally ambiguous, having no legal value or precedent in international law, such that its meaning was unclear when compared to other terms such as “state”. The term was intentionally used instead of “state” because of opposition to the Zionist program within the British Cabinet.

In fact, the Zionist Jewish state was established not by some explicit or implicit “Agreement” with the British purportedly documented in “the Balfour Declaration”.

“Israel” was born in the wake of a decades long Zionist terrorism campaign that engulfed Palestine, setting the stage for seven more decades of turmoil, culminating in a nuclear-armed terrorist state that threatens to trigger the next, possibly nuclear, world war.

Yes, it seems that the Anglo-American media now forms the spearhead of the War-party. All they are saying, in a paraphrase of Lennon’s refrain is ”All we are saying, is give war a chance.”

I am always impressed by your incredible detailed knowledge of politics, Abe, and I wasn’t sure whether that was meant to be a put-down of Marrs. He was a journalist for many years and then set out on his own after seeing through the control. There are many other researches and researchers cited by Marrs in his footnotes, and of course it is considered “conspiracy” and he did speak at conferences, as the term “conspiracy” is used by governments and especially alphabet agencies of US. There are some speculative ideas included but many not so well-known facts as to origins of the Federal Reserve (the Pauls, Ron and Rand, most vocal about that), CFR, support of Hitler by US and English industrialists, Trilateral Commission started by David Rockefeller, Brzezinski’s influence on Carter to arm Mujahideens, support for conflict between capitalistic and communistic countries as Cold War set up by Western oligarchy as examples. “Rule By Secrecy” is compact and covers a lot of historical territory that can lead to further research by the reader. I like the book because i have no doubt as to our rule by secret machinations of power players. For example, we always hear interviews from members of the Council on Foreign Relations on NPR, but they are a propaganda lobby for government.

    • Abe
      March 6, 2018 at 19:28

Consortium News focuses on independent investigative journalism, not speculative “researches”. And yes, there’s an enormous difference between the two.

Marrs was certainly skilled at weaving interesting narratives. However, many key points of fact in Marrs’ books were appropriated from other published works and fact-based authors.

Following his “success” with Crossfire, Marrs’ “researches” became ever more hypothetical, to say the least.

Marrs often discarded fact-based investigative journalism and ignored historical analysis when it wasn’t convenient for his speculative narratives about “secret societies” and “alien technology”. Typically of such authors, Marrs claimed more than the facts would support.

As the late Robert Parry pointed out: “The major Western news outlets now conflate the discrete difficulties from made-up ‘fake news’ and baseless ‘conspiracy theories’ with responsible dissenting analyses. All get thrown into the same pot and subjected to disdain and ridicule.” https://consortiumnews.com/about/

The article by Norman Solomon and the discussion at hand concerns fact-based analysis of mainstream media war propaganda, which obviously includes evaluation of media ownership, as well as assessment of government-media collusion in hybrid warfare.

Consortium News contributors definitely have addressed the rule by secrecy exercised by the American security state.

However, Consortium News has consistently examined these critical issues using solid fact-based investigative journalism, which is the antithesis of “the silliness and propaganda that had come to pervade American journalism”.

With respect to Marrs and other speculative “researchers”, let’s just say there are plenty of other places on the internet where interested “readers” may pursue “conversations” about “alien agendas” and the workings of the “global elite”.

The machinations of global players, including the Israeli-Saudi US Axis, are examined using fact-based investigative journalism here at CN.

So there’s simply no good reason to insert occult “researches” into the discussion here. Unless there’s a particular agenda to do so. Just sayin’.

That actually has been mentioned a lot here in the past and now, i think even on this thread, and there is also interesting mention here of how many execs of NBC and MSNBC are Jewish. Also, Maddow is gay and dislikes that Russian society doesn’t welcome gays as she feels they should, although Russians tolerate it but just don’t make the societal deal of it that has occurred in Western societies.

Very good book that concisely lays out history and influence of secret societies is “Rule.By Secrecy” by Jim Marrs, published 2000 and an underground bestseller still sold at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Short chapters on how secret societies morphed into political organs, shows that Templars developed fractional reserve banking, rise of Rothschild empire, specifics on wars induced by wealthy manipulating public.

The late Jim Marrs, a fixture of UFO and conspiracy conferences, wrote books asserting the existence of government conspiracies regarding aliens, 9/11, telepathy, and secret societies. In Rule by Secrecy (2000), Marss claimed to trace a hidden history connecting modern secret societies to ancient and medieval times. Marrs’ book Crossfire: The Plot That Killed Kennedy (1989) became a basis for the Oliver Stone film JFK (1991).

Jim Marrs, RIP, was a good interview and author. “Crossfire” in hardcover is something I have owned since it came out and doesn’t disappoint. Another must read of his is “The Terror Conspiracy”.

  16. March 6, 2018 at 12:22

Maybe people should heed President Kennedy’s warning about the control by secret societies, namely the global financial octopus. Rachael Maddow is a “Cecil Rhodes” scholar, much can be learned about Cecil Rhodes, Milner and Rothschild from Clinton’s college professor Carroll Quigley in Tragedy and Hope and The Anglo American Empire. Then we have Mika Brzezinski, daughter of Trilateral Commission co-founder Zbigniew, his co-founder was David Rockefeller, and to really establish the symbiotic relationship among media and the ruling financial elite, MSNBC NBC Chief Foreign Correspondent is Andrea Mitchell, wife of ex-Fed Chair Alan Greenspan.

Nothing to see here, folks, anybody who sees any conflicts here are obviously tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists.

The use of “global financial octopus” rhetoric evokes a notorious “anti-Semitic” canard: the accusation that “Jews” are plotting to control the world.

Included in this canard are not only writings that seek to accuse Jews of trying to control the world, but also graphic imagery depicting Jews, or their supporters, as trying to control the world.

An example of this imagery from the archives of the Library of Congress is a Nazi-era cartoon that depicted British prime minister Winston Churchill as an octopus with the Star of David over his head
      https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/churchill/interactive/_html/wc0213.html

Such false allegations are defamatory towards Judaism as a religion, or defamatory towards Jews as an ethnic or religious group.

Antisemitic canards often form part of broader theories of “Jewish conspiracies”.

Such “anti-Semitic” propaganda canards are frequently used in Inverted Hasbara (fake “anti-Jewish” / “anti-Semitic”) propaganda i order to divert attention and deflect analysis of Israeli government actions, pro-Israel Lobby influence in US electoral politics, and Israeli interference in American foreign policy.

The publication of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion in 1903 is widely considered to mark the beginning of contemporary conspiracy theory literature.

Among the most notable early refutations of the Protocols as a forgery were a series of articles printed in The Times of London in 1921. This series revealed that much of the material in the Protocols was plagiarized from an earlier political satire that did not have an antisemitic theme. Since 1903, when the Protocols first appeared in print, its earliest publishers have offered vague and often contradictory testimony detailing how they obtained their copies of the rumored original manuscript.

The Protocols text was popularized by supporters of the Tsarist regime, and it was disseminated further after the revolution of 1905 in Russia, becoming known worldwide after the 1917 Revolution. It was widely circulated in the West in 1920 and thereafter. The Great Depression and the rise of Nazism were important developments in the history of the Protocols, and the hoax continued to be published and circulated despite its debunking.

Despite the fact that numerous independent investigations have repeatedly proven the Protocols to be a plagiarism and a literary forgery, the hoax is still frequently quoted and reprinted by anti-Semites, and is sometimes used as evidence of an alleged Jewish cabal, by anti-Semitic groups in the United States and in the Middle East. The hoax is also referenced in comments by Inverted Hasbara (false flag “anti-Israel” “anti-Zionist” and fake “anti-Jewish” / “anti-Semitic”) propaganda trolls online.

Abe, meanwhile you cry wolf in claiming anyone, namely me, are blaming “Jews” per se. Actually the octopus I’m referring to is the global central bank scam where financial overlords long ago schemed to take over their respective nation’s production and distribution of money creating a private monopoly that creates money out of nothing whenever someone borrows from these diabolical parasites. The money only has value when it represents real work and the parasites have morphed money as a fill in in for barter into a commodity unto itself.

This global octopus is comprised of much more than Jews which brings us to your greatest attempt at deception and that is you left out that there are many Orthodox Jewish groups and websites that regularly oppose and protest Zionism and Israel’s unlawful encroachment and human rights violations. Your “Protocols,” argument has been played far too many times, so much that it has become a cliche for the unimaginative.

You presume far too much when you claim I am uttering anti-Semitic rhetoric, I care very little for any of the “revealed” religions and consider all three Abrahamic religions to be anti-intellectual and downright at odds with spiritual enlightenment.

As many have accurately stated, Zionism is not restricted to Jews but is ultra nationalistic and elitist. You also forgot to mention that many people have awoken to the fact that many who claim to be poor, besieged Semites, are, in fact, not from the Arabian Region but are Central Europeans, the Kazars.

Is it anti-Semitic to point out Israel brutally attacked the USS Liberty during the Six-Days War in 1967? Or that Trump was dead wrong when he claimed “everybody knows Muslims were dancing in the streets of Manhattan on 9/12, when, in fact, it was Israelis who were literally arrested and held for many days by the FBI for dancing in Manhattan while filming the collapse of the Twin Towers from cameras mounted on tripods?

Any anthropologist from another planet observing our collapsing civilization would quickly see a pattern of a very, very, very small minority at the heads of nearly every major institution, finance, news media, all television, publishing, politics and conclude there has to be something there that needs much deeper investigation.

        Lee Anderson,

The specific and factually accurate statement that “Use of ‘global financial octopus’ rhetoric evokes a notorious ‘anti-Semitic’ canard” included historical references to support the statement. There was no presumption that you were “blaming ‘Jews’ per se”. But you definitely did use a rhetorical cliche.

Utterance of “anti-Semitic” rhetoric by Inverted Hasbara (false flag “anti-Zionist”) propaganda trolls and “imaginative” dimwits is a legitimate concern online. CN moderators remove comment violations by trolls and dimwits who loudly proclaim the “Protocols” are “history”. One incident happened just a few days ago.

Indeed, much can be learned from deeper investigation of history.

In his book The Anglo-American Establishment: From Rhodes to Cliveden (written in 1949 and published posthumously in 1981), Carroll Quigley purported to trace the history of a secret society (Round Table group) founded in 1891 by Cecil Rhodes and Alfred Milner.
        See http://www.carrollquigley.net/pdf/the_anglo-american_establishment.pdf

Milner was an eminence grise who more or less started the Boer War of 1899-1902, then mentored “Milner’s Kindergarten” of bright young men in running South Africa, and finally popped up again in Lloyd George’s five-man war cabinet in 1917.

Quigley claimed that Milner actually drafted the famous Balfour Declaration of November 1917, a letter from the British government to Lord Rothschild approving Palestine as a national home for the Jewish people:

Quigley wrote: “This declaration, which is always known as the Balfour Declaration, should rather be called ‘the Milner Declaration,’ since Milner was the actual draftsman and was apparently, its chief supporter in the War Cabinet. This fact was not made public until 21 July 1936. At that time Ormsby-Gore, speaking for the government in Commons, said, ‘The draft as originally put up by Lord Balfour was not the final draft approved by the War Cabinet. The particular draft assented to by the War Cabinet and afterwards by the Allied Governments and by the United States… and finally embodied in the Mandate, happens to have been drafted by Lord Milner. The actual final draft had to be issued in the name of the Foreign Secretary, but the actual draftsman was Lord Milner.” (page 169)

Another prominent member of the Milner Group or Round Table in the first half of the twentieth century was Leopold Amery, who Quigley describes as “Milner’s chief political protege” (page 160)

William D. Rubenstein, a professor of modern history at the University of Wales, claims the final draft of the Balfour Declaration was actually written by Amery.

In “The Secret of Leopold Amery” (History Today, Vol 49, Issue 2, February 1999), Rubenstein describes Amery as “a man with an extraordinary secret, probably the most remarkable example of concealment of identity in twentieth-century British political history… it is no exaggeration to describe him as a `secret Jew’ who worked tirelessly on behalf of Jewish causes. Because of his increasingly significant political position, he was immensely influential in bringing about the success of the Zionist enterprise which eventually led to the establishment of the State of Israel.”

According to Rubinstein, “Amery’s first and most significant contribution to the Zionist movement came in October 1917 when, as political secretary to the War Cabinet (a post he had been appointed to by Lord Milner the previous year), he redrafted the Balfour Declaration. Milner had given Amery several unsatisfactory early versions of the Declaration out of which he `quickly produced’ the celebrated letter sent by Foreign Minister Arthur Balfour to Lord Rothschild. This momentous document was, in effect, the founding charter of the state of Israel, which was established thirty-one years later. The full Cabinet, of which Amery was not at that stage a member, made only two minor amendments to his draft.”

Quigley notes that “The Milner Group did not approve of the efforts of the Labour government in 1929-1931 to curtail Zionist rights in Palestine. They protested vigorously against the famous White Paper of 1930 (Cmd. 3692), which was regarded as anti-Zionist. Baldwin, Austen Chamberlain, and Leopold Amery protested against the document in a letter to The Times on 30 October 1930.” (pages 172-173)

Amery, who hid his Jewish identity for various reasons, was a long-time friend of right-wing Russian Jewish right-wing Zionist leader Vladimir Jabotinsky, aka Ze’ev Jabotinsky. Jabotinsky’s ideology of Revisionist Zionism – that “only Jewish armed force would ensure the Jewish state” – found armed expression in the Irgun terrorist organization. Amery encouraged Jabonitsky in the formation of the Jewish Legion for the British Army in Palestine.

Obviously all these points of historical fact and even controversy can be investigated without resorting to “anti-Semitic” canards or using rhetorical cliches like “global financial octopus”.

William D. Rubinstein is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He has published widely on modern British history and on modern Jewish history, and was President of the Jewish Historical Society of England, 2002-2004. His works include A History of the Jews in the English-Speaking World: Great Britain (1996) and Israel, the Jews and the West: The Fall and Rise of Antisemitism (2008). His controversial work, The Myth of Rescue: Why the Democracies Could Not Have Saved More Jews from the Nazis (1997), argues that the allies could not have saved more Jews during the Holocaust.

Rubinstein is best known for his research on the wealth-holding classes in modern Britain, making use of probate and other taxation records, in such works as Men of Property: The Very Wealthy in Britain Since the Industrial Revolution (1981) and Capitalism, Culture and Decline in Britain, 1750–1990 (1991). More recently he has co-authored (with Philip Beresford) The Richest of the Rich (2007), an account of the 250 richest-ever people in British history since the Norman Conquest.

This further documents the fact situation we are all aware of: that MSNBC along with CNN are the Volkssenders of the yankee deep state. The yankee imperium is the first in history that has two competing factions both supporting the same power structure in the end.

Inherent in the article is also the elitist “they’re all stupid except me” mentality so common on the US internet. Because he believes that people are so stupid that they will blindly swallow whatever MSNBC tells them, he thinks that we will also blindly swallow what he tells them. He’s wrong on both counts!

The purpose of the fake Mainstream Media such as MSMBC is to carry out the commands from a unelected, unaccountable Deepstate Govt who really rules America? They have hyjacked the Political system & control the MIC & own the Media via Corporate takeovers so they can now control the narrative via this new Disinformation war & that narrative is to stupefy the American public to such a extent that they can’t determine right from wrong anymore? This endless gaslighting is mean’t to unbalance one’s senses & make you question your sanity? The end goal is to keep the population stupid, uninformed & ignorant in order to obfuscate & divert attention away from the real issues? It’s the ultimate shell game that they play on the American people for their own profit & amusement? The Presidency with Trump or any other person is just a puppet figurehead with the real power hiding behind the throne! Notice how Candidate Trump has completely backtracked on all his election promises especially with regards to foreign policy & warmongering? I suspect the Intelligence Agencies, showed Trump what his fate would be if he refused to obey them? JFK was murdered by this cartel for refusing to be lead around by them & President Bonespurs Trump, the draft dodger who ran away from conflict in Vietnam but is now transformed into Rambo & ridiculously stated that he would have run into that school to stop the shooter in that last mass shooting, is not the Hero hunter but rather the lame duck at the mercy of his Deepstate masters?

In a sane, democratic country the TV Networks will be putting the interviews like the one on the link below, instead of Rachel Maddow, Chris Hays, and the likes spitting out their garbage full of lies every day .

Sophie Shavarnadze interviewed Kanwal Sibal, the retired Indian Foreign Secretary, in April, 2014 on RT, right after Crimea rejoined Russia and U.S. put sanctions on Russia. Sibal, a career diplomat, was India’s ambassador to many Western Nations including ambassador to Russia. He explains the whole big powers geopolitical scene in a very simple language, very balanced in his answers.

Here is a microeconomic example of how the media self censors itself. There is a group which has founded a national holiday called “But Nothing day”.

    From Wikipedia:

“Buy Nothing Day (BND) is an international day of protest against consumerism. In North America, the United Kingdom, Finland and Sweden, Buy Nothing Day is held the day after U.S. Thanksgiving, concurrent to Black Friday; elsewhere, it is held the following day, which is the last Saturday in November. Buy Nothing Day was founded in Vancouver by artist Ted Dave and subsequently promoted by Adbusters magazine, based in Canada.

The first Buy Nothing Day was organized in Canada in September 1992 “as a day for society to examine the issue of over-consumption.” In 1997, it was moved to the Friday after American Thanksgiving, also called “Black Friday”, which is one of the ten busiest shopping days in the United States.

In 2000, advertisements by Adbusters promoting Buy Nothing Day were denied advertising time by almost all major television networks except for CNN..”

The salient point is that although the Buy Nothing Day organization had raised sufficient money to buy advertisements on major media channels they were shown the door. They were denied access to the media channels because they did not represent a message that was copacetic with the business models of the commercial media outlets which make their money from advertisers who spend a whole lot more on consumerism than the Buy Nothing Day organization.

The facts were clear to major media that taking money from this organization would irritate their other customers and would possibly result in a backlash so they turned the organization down. The reality was that even if this organization had more money to spend the major media outlets would not allow its content to be seen on their program channels because of the perceived threat to their other customers interests.

Imagine if you were a bank depending on depositors and some group was trying to get you to launch a campaign to “Keep Your Money Under the Mattress”. It would be doubtful that you (the bank) would want to allow this message to be represented by your bank for a whole bunch of reasons including your investors who were getting loans from the bank to make investments. It would be a direct conflict of interest for you (the bank) and your interest bearing loans to the folks who were prepared to pay you interest on those loans. A diminished supply of cash would be the last thing you (as a bank) would want to promote.

There would be calls made by holders of loaned money to stop the message and it would be abundantly clear to the bank that such messages were counter to its business model. The bank would refuse the “Keep your Money Under the Mattress” money and would do everything to prevent their message from getting out since it would ultimately hurt the profits on interest they were expecting.

That is exactly what happened to the Buy Nothing Day organizers and it is a cautionary tale for what will happen when Net Neutrality is ended by the FCC under Ajit Pai.

What will happen under the end of Net Neutrality is that Internet Service Providers like the fictional bank will carefully examine the content of websites and simply refuse to present content that is counter to their business models.

We have been deceived by a main stream media that has presented the end of Net Neutrality as throttling rather than censorship. They have represented the worst case scenario as a mere inconvenience rather than a complete blackout.

Of course the Internet Service Providers will be slow and methodical in at first throttling information counter to their interests but yet steadily reducing the ease of access until finally blocking content on websites entirely with the skill of a surgeons knife removing a cancer.

I left out some lyrics from Genesis’ Firth of Fifth:

“The mountain cuts off the town from view,
Like a cancer growth is removed by skill.”

The mountain is the media and we will be cut off from any independent view in the “town” of the internet. It will be accomplished with surgeons skill as the media cuts out the cancer growth of views counter to its business model.

I am not sure why all of you cannot clearly see this except it is a minority viewpoint which has apparently already been scrubbed from sight.

MSNBC is a carefully crafted Fox News version of fake news for the left leaning. Why should the media only propagandize right leaning viewers on Fox when it can capture more folks and propagandize the left as well.

This insidious control over the left and the right is mirrored on TV as it has played out in our government. The former left is now the chief drum beater for blaming Russia for the election and both sides now are united in a common effort to fight an old enemy.

Of course one can speculate that the Russians have managed to unite both left and right with one fell swoop but I think it is our intelligence agencies and our corporate media that have managed to do that. They have taken the Super PACs to the cleaners thanks to Citizens United and McCutcheon vs. the FEC and now they are back to normal operations supporting creation of foreign devils on both sides of the aisle in Washington and both sides of the Media on Fox and MSNBC. They are quite good at this game and they both supported war in Iraq and Syria and Ukraine. The one side blamed the right and the other side blamed the left and in the end there was a uniform message that the US was trying to promote democracy which was supported by the left and that the US was fighting terrorism which was supported on the right.

It is a classic double game where arguments are made on both extreme sides which ultimately guide viewers no matter what persuasion to the same conclusion that Russia is the Enemy. Russia for the right is an existential threat from a military standpoint and Russia interfered with our elections denying democrats a presidential election on the other side.

Each point of view spouted by conservative and liberal media comes to the same conclusion that Russia is the enemy in each case.

How convenient and clever of the MIC to be the fox which beguiles all of the people all of the time.

Liberals may not want to know that MSNBC rates higher than Fox News for spouting opinion but research by independent media watchdog organizations have come to that conclusion. Rachel Maddow and Shawn Hannity are equals on the left and right spouting their opinions short on facts which magically come to the same conclusion that Russia is public enemy number 1.

All this leads to the conclusion that there are few places people and other nations can go to counter the war machine of the US media.

It is no joke that Russia fears that it will be cut off from the internet when Net Neutrality ends. Self censorship rather than throttling of Netflix has always been my number one concern which will result from that deregulation. Unfortunately again, the media has framed the end of Net Neutrality as a money game when it is really an end to freedom of information. How sad we have let ourselves be duped by the megaphones assuring us that the only result will be perhaps difficulty downloading content rather than the terrifying possibility that that content simply will vanish because it does not support the business model of our corrupted media.

No one here has considered this possibility but you should. If Russia is concerned that it might be cut off then you should also be concerned. It is a damn shame that you folks have dismissed this possibility and have bought into the rhetoric of the media telling you what will happen in the future instead of imagining what will happen in the future. The give us assurances nothing will change and there are little corporate men and women who are paid to tell us that. Why should we believe them? Have we not all seen the lies and the complicity in the news?

I can say that I have been met with dismissive comments disputing my opinion on this matter before but I urge you to think of a state of the internet where powerful corporations can simply cut off any website that does not serve their interests. That is the scary part of ending Net Neutrality.

There is a whole lot of effort by our government and our communications corporations to craft their messages to all of us to keep us on the path they want us to follow. The sheep are in the pen and the gate is closing although some see the path to leave.

From Genesis (The band) “Firth Of Fifth”

    The path is clear
    Though no eyes can see
The course laid down long before
And so with gods and men
The sheep remain inside their pen
Though many times they’ve seen the way to leave

    He rides majestic
    Past homes of men
Who care not or gaze with joy
    To see reflected there
The trees, the sky, the lily fair
The scene of death is lying just below…

    Undinal songs
    Urge the sailors on
Till lured by the sirens’ cry

Now as the river dissolves in sea
So Neptune has claimed another soul
And so with gods and men
The sheep remain inside their pen
Until the Shepherd leads his flock away…

    The lyrics “He rides majestic
    Past homes of men
Who care not or gaze with joy”

Fairly well characterize the actions of the FCC in its efforts to end Net Neutrality. There are those who care not and there are those who gaze with joy. That would be us citizens (sheep) in the former case and the CEOs of ISPs and Media providers and our MIC in the latter case. The “He” who rides magestic past homes of men would be Ajit Pai, Chief of the FCC.

I blame myself. I was there in 2003 when Michael Powell was attempting to end Net Neutrality and the ownership limits of the media. I saw the complete blackout by the media of any coverage of the protests. They knew their investors and the CEOs would cash in big time with a wave of media mergers and that it would grant them the power to increase their propaganda to influence us all for their benefit. I knew it would result in more people ignorant of the events and trusting in the media who would be controlled. I was relieved when the House reversed the FCC ruling by a near unanimous majority of 422 to 20. But even then I knew they would be back, Obama made some headway with classification of ISPs as public utilities which could not pick and choose which websites they could provide access too but now the FCC and the Congress have come back with a vengeance to overturn this ruling and even to promulgate laws which stipulate that there can never again be a challenge to the ruling. They have made democracy and reasoned debate illegal.

The same kind of nonsense has been promulgated by Congress by not only stripping Trump of his Executive Privileges to veto sanctions against Russia but to permanently strip the White House of the power to negotiate sanctions against Russia.

Making laws to forever ban our government from making different laws should have been the objective of the defenders of Net Neutrality when ISPs were classified as public utilities but the opponents of it have beaten us to the punch and the laws to forbid changing the end of Net Neutrality have instead been launched by the proponents of ending the regulations.

This end run around democracy should have us all up in arms about how the government can legislate laws that cannot be broken even by the government itself but we have allowed it to happen lulled into a catatonic state by the sirens songs of the corporate media.

Imagine that our legislators are backing laws that can never be legally challenged or overruled by a majority. Does this seem like the America we once knew? I think not and yet the brazen politicians in Washington are putting the pesky public and the concerned citizens and concerned lawmakers to bed forever with these laws.

Good Night and Good Luck. We sure missed the boat on this one. It might have been the last boat out too.

Don’t beat yourself up to much. Back in the 70’s in the Carter era America suffered not only long gasolines by OPEC manipulation the Independent Gasoline Association Dealers had a whole lot of suggestions to give to Carter, as these selfowned dealers had their own ideas of how to distribute gasoline. I knew the President and the 3rd person at the top of the Association, and they said I believe it was James R. Schlesinger who walked into the conference room put a very thick pile of paper on the conference table, and said, ‘there’s your plan gentleman’ and turned around and exited the room, with no Q &A…case closed, by the 80’s the vast amount self-owned gasoline dealerships were gone and replaced by corporate consignment arrangements. Even that transition was strange, and against the norm of that era where corporate hands on functions were outsourced to the less compensated liability risk independents. But you did what you could, as I remember you gave us all here on this comment board a petition to sign, and a warning date to call to protest this attack on Net neutrality. I salute you CitizenOne. Wow Joe thanks!

It is just a crock that our government is about to allow ISPs which already extract a fee from us every month to access the Internet to then be granted the legal power to pick and choose what we can see. This is the conundrum of conservatism. If conservatives are really all about protecting our rights then why are they in favor of ending our access to information. On the one hand they cry out that they represent freedom but on the other hand they enact laws which will diminish our freedom.

The freedom they diminish is freedom of access to information with the ending of Net Neutrality.

I’m fairly certain that the labels of “liberal” and “conservative” are by now nonsense words just used by the wealthy to confuse us. The conservative doctrine of supporting deregulation in the case or FCC deregulation is just an attempt to blind us.

On the whole, deregulation efforts if successful always favor the wealthy as in the recent deregulation of our tax code.

We Americans are lulled by the rhetoric shouting that overhanded government regulations are choking us but the deregulation of the FCC and its abandonment of ownership rules and net neutrality requirements will only benefit the Internet Service Providers and all of the corporate advertisers and will not do one iota to relieve the choke hold on us but instead place a blindfold over our eyes while it charges us access to only what they want to propagandize us with.

It has been apparent on the major media cable channels for some time where they have devolved into censors of any story threatening to their paying corporate customers.

This is really an assault on free speech. If ISPs can block websites counter to their interests then a law suit based on the infringement of our free speech rights might seem like a viable way to fight back.

Enter the Supreme Court or the 9 politicians in robes. These folks will no doubt strike down any argument that our free speech rights are infringed upon by corporate censorship even though they granted rights to spend unlimited money on political campaigns to protect the free speech rights of giant corporations who are infringing on the free speech rights of us real people when not if they decide to cut off web services for websites they or their corporate customers do not like.

            It’s a brave new world.

I think that worse offense MSNBC does to its listeners is what they do not report at all. Let us take a very progressive issue such as immigration. For example, according to Eric London article dated March 1 of 2018: “In a 5-3 decision handed down on Tuesday, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Jennings v. Rodriguez that the government can arrest and indefinitely detain immigrants, depriving them of the fundamental right to bail. As a result, hundreds of thousands of immigrants will be locked up in internment camps as their immigration cases proceed, with no opportunity for release until their cases are decided—a process that often takes years. Roughly 450,000 immigrants were jailed in detention centers at some point during the last year, and that number will increase astronomically after yesterday’s ruling”. If You thought that MSNBC would be up in arms reporting incessantly about the fascistic methods employed by the US government, you would be dead wrong. It is just sheer dishonesty to misinform your viewers in this repulsive way. I will close my post with a quote of Charles Simmons: “Accuracy is the twin brother of honesty; inaccuracy, of dishonesty.” Shame on you MSNBC.

You are burning up the place with good and valid points. Think of this; if each cable news network can attract a descent sized majority of certain and separate populations of particular demographics then the slicing and dicing and continuation of the core narrative is a pliable but firm narrative to establish…this is what is going on, and you Jose (sorry for the capital J) have captured it in detail.

Keeping the public distracted, and leaving out important details, is what their game is all about. Robert Parry was always exposing this garbage, with his continually going back over important details, where today’s MSM goes out of their way to bury details, and now as you have pointed out Jose they are leaving out whole stories by the bundle, as to keep us all busy with the stupid stuff. Great now the MSM is really showing their arrogance for the American citizen.

Thanks to the incessant warmongering at places like MS-DNC, authoritarian “liberal” Democrats are now even stupider and more willfully ignorant than their McCarthyite forebearers.

Because, today, all it takes to pierce the Russia Did It!™ propaganda is thirty minutes, a search engine, and an open mind. But modern McCarthyites choose tribalism, and ignorance, instead. MSNBC has been called out many times for their slanted coverage. Nonetheless, the Russia invisible collusion between Putin and Trump has yet to be proven. Consequently, other major stories get sidetracked. For instance, according to Adam Johnson: MSNBC hasn’t dedicated a single segment to the West Virginia teachers strike—despite the strike’s unprecedented size and scope, which garnered major coverage from major outlets. How about Peter Koenig article stating that:The US are setting up permanent illegal bases in northern Syria, deploying some 30,000 mercenaries, commanding the US armed 50,000 strong Kurdish so-called People’s Protection Unit, or YPG, as well as newly trained ISIS fighters – all aiming at taking over one third of Syrian territory. Has anyone seen this ultra-important development being reported by MSNBC at length? Quoting Norman Solomon regarding MSNBC: ” The evidence is damning. And the silence underscores the arrogance.” Personally speaking, I am overwhelmed by the irony and perversity of MSNBC crooked anchors Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes. (Emphasis mine)

Jose: The only place that I have found consistently covering the West Virginia statewide teachers strike is WSWS.org (World Socialist). They have reported on it daily and it seems no one else has. The teachers said no to the union leaders and the governor regarding a settlement. Good for them; this is an important effort and story. The cowards in the media again distance themselves from the truth. I wonder, Jose, if it might happen this way with the Disneyland workers?

        March 6, 2018 at 20:01

Dear geeyp: I think the prevailing economic system does not want this strike to be covered at all. For if it were, more strikes will spread like wildfire and they do not want the present situation getting out of control. Thus, the order is to distract people from important issues such as the West Virginia teachers strike. Good post.

One might also recall that back in July 2014 it was MSNBC, and especially Rachel Maddow, that refused to cover Israel’s attack on Gaza as 2500 civilians, including 500 Palestinian children were killed. Instead, every night during that period she focused on the black guy that was choked to death by police outside a seven-eleven.

Since then I have discovered Tucker Carlson over on Fox News. I watched interviews with Tulsie Gabbard, Max Blumenthal, Glen Greenwald and many others that I would have liked to have on MSNBC — but sadly weren’t there.

MSNBC is totally controlled by Zionists committed to advancing the interests of Israel. Go to this web site below if you want to see documented evidence of this.

Dear RamboDave: I have another example to complement your great post: According to Peter Koenig reporting on March 2 of 2018 “The US are setting up a series of permanent illegal, uninvited bases in northern Syria, deploying some 30,000 mostly mercenary type soldiers, commanding the US trained and armed 50,000 strong Kurdish so-called People’s Protection Unit, or YPG, as well as newly trained, funded and armed ISIS fighters – all aiming at taking over one third of the Syrian territory – the beginning of a balkanization of Syria, and with the ultimate goal of ‘regime change’ – the goal that has never changed – removing Bashar al Assad, the legitimate democratically elected President of Syria.” Do not bother seeking MSNBC’s reporting of this grave and vital issue; It is practically non existent. Well done RamboDave.

Ah yes, here we go, Efraín Ríos Montt, the born again president of Guatemala.

“…army general … coup d’état … large-scale violations of human rights and spread counter-insurgency terror among the peasantry. …He was protected from a pair of long-running lawsuits alleging war crimes against him and a number of his former ministers and counselors during their term in the presidential palace in 1982–83. … On January 26, 2012, Ríos Montt appeared in court in Guatemala and was formally indicted for genocide and crimes against humanity.

… documented widespread human rights abuses committed by Ríos Montt’s military regime. These included widespread massacres, rape, and torture against the indigenous population in what has been called a Guatemalan genocide. Ríos Montt say there was no government-ordered genocide, and that abuses were the result of a long, violent civil war.[ At the time Ríos Montt had close ties to the United States, receiving direct and indirect support from several of its agencies, including the CIA.

…The civil war pitted Marxist rebels against the Guatemalan state, including the army. Huge numbers of civilians, both indigenous Mayas and mestizo Ladinos, were caught in the crossfire. Up to 200,000 Guatemalans were killed and declared missing during the long conflict, making it one of Latin America’s most violent wars in modern history.

Indigenous Mayas suffered disproportionately during Ríos Montt’s rule, and it is documented that his government deliberately targeted thousands of indigenous people since many were suspected of harboring sympathies for, supporting, or participating in the guerrilla movement. Under the Cold War-era strategy of containment the Guatemalan state sought to eliminate the spread of Communism inside its borders. The UN-backed Historical Clarification Commission found that the resulting counterinsurgency campaign, significantly designed and advanced during Ríos Montt’s presidency, included deliberate “acts of genocide” against the indigenous population.

Judge Miguel Angel Galves opened a pre-trial hearing against Ríos Montt and retired General José Mauricio Rodríguez Sánchez for genocide and crimes against humanity, in particular the killings of 1,771 Maya Ixil Indians in 1982 and 83, including children. On 10 May 2013, Ríos Montt was convicted of genocide and crimes against humanity, and was sentenced to 80 years imprisonment. On 20 May 2013, the Constitutional Court of Guatemala overturned the conviction.[His retrial began January 2015. A Guatemalan court has ruled he can stand trial for genocide and crimes against humanity, but he cannot be sentenced due to his age and deteriorating health conditions.”

Excellent post and excellent link on the ownership of Comcast and NBC Universal. VERY disappointed in Tel Aviv Rachel and other Vichy “progressives” at MSNBZ.

      On the same point –

“Chris Matthews is constantly doing Irish Catholic identity politics when Irish Catholic Americans come on his show, but he’s afraid to say boo about the powerful pro-Israel Jews who own/run his employer Comcast, the largest media company in the country– Brian Roberts who participated in the Maccabee Games in Israel and David Cohen who once headed the local Jewish Federations.”

“And the media have a guilty conscience, because they know the U.S. power structure is beholden to Israel, but they can’t talk about that foreign influence.”

Above quotes from an excellent article on Israel’s GIGANTIC influence on American media and politics, at a top-flight, Jewish-run, anti-Zionist website of news and analysis.

“The Jews did it!”, does present a rather clean solution to the moral conundrum that sentient Protestant America must be experiencing at the moment. On the one hand, the world is in complete disaster due to Cheney/Bush, Obama, Clinton, Trump, Johnson, Nixon, and all the many, many assorted hand on Bible swearing Protestant power players that are undeniably at the top of the US and world food chain. It must be difficult to know just how much carnage and butchery is carried out by the faithful followers. Does the hackneyed retort, “They weren’t true Christians” ever wear thin?

American Jews enthusiastically compile lists of prominent Jews in the media and other fields of activity, but will loudly complain of “anti-Semitism” if such lists are used to identify pro-Israel bias.

It doesn’t take a purported “Jew list” to recognize the unmistakable pro-Israel bias in American media.

As FAIR noted in 2014: “Striving for a deceptive ‘balance,’ US media miscast the devastating violence of Israel’s attacks on Gaza and obscured the lopsided nature of the death toll.”
      https://fair.org/extra/israel-gaza-and-false-balance/

In its propaganda campaign in preparation for anupcoming Israeli-Saudi-US Axis assault on Lebanon and Syria, Israel is once again exaggerating an alleged “tunnel threat” from Gaza.

Rachel Maddow, MSNBC and the rest of the pro-Israel media in the United States can be expected to continue to play along with any and all charades foisted by Tel Aviv, Riyadh and Washington.

On a recent visit with family in the US, I was able to observe the TV coverage on current events in the US. What I witnessed on TV news and political analysis shows was mass propaganda on a massive scale. Despite the American people being a friendly and cordial society, they are propagandised to such an extent that they have no objective knowledge of the world beyond their borders.

When I did engage Americans in conversation and presented alternate facts from those they believe, they end the conversation not wanting to have their perceived ideas challenged. Those of us outside the US who hope for an awakening of the American people to the destructive nature of the US foreign policy should give up. The Americans are drowning in a sea of propaganda beyond their ability to perceive.

Unfortunately the lies Americans are being told about their world are designed to be very consoling and self-congratulatory, hence the difficulty of asking them to question borrowed ideas. It’s probably no consolation to realize that Plato’s Socrates had the same trouble with getting the ancient Athenians to rethink their beliefs. We become addicted to skillfully concocted propaganda, and are loath to give it up.

Wow Dick reading this comment of yours takes me back to my days after coming off cruises when I served in the U.S. Navy. In fact Dick, for the most part that foreign experience changed my whole outlook on our American society, and especially of how our American governments military responded to our world events.

I like you came home to a different kind of realization of the news where the people at home weren’t aware of what I was aware of. This was the late 60’s early 70’s and I thought it was bad then, well poor you to discover this disease in 2018. I’ll bet it drives you crazy.

The one thing Dick is although I’m sadden by my country’s worldly performance I know that the American people are good. These are our people, and no matter how they come off our American brethren and sistren are but fooled by the lies of the Deep State. Basically the problem is most good Americans don’t get the right news because they don’t or can’t find the time to dig into each news story, so they get lied to instead. Where I’ve had some luck with stay at home family and friends is by pointing out that that enemy fellow isn’t much or any different than you/them. Then I would work my way up from there to explain to how Castro had to feed his people, and that Batista was a mafia infested thug. Then I told them about America’s Caribbean ally Papa Doc, wow oh boy.

What never gets talked about, was that the first nation’s leader to offer assistance to George W Bush after 911 was none other than Vladimir Putin, and Iran mourned in their streets on that night of our country’s loss. Oh the sin of omission. Joe

You are right, Dick. We are indeed a propagandized nation of people, walking around each day as if in a surreal coma of sorts… What did Mark Twain say? “It is easier to fool someone than to convince them they’ve been fooled.” Such is the case with many of the liberals in my life. It has been said of how George Washington wasn’t to keen of political parties. I feel a certain amount of freedom was attained from the bondage of political labels, as there go I. We should all divorce ourselves from these labels since for the big MSM these labels serve as but mere joy sticks to control our every movement to within our own political ideology sphere.

This past election, and the dealing with the names such as ‘Putin Apologist’ or ‘oh are you now a Trump supporter’ or ‘if you voted for Bernie or Jill you voted for Trump’ and then there’s Bill Maher, need I say more to pseudo liberal labels, and don’t get me started onto what happened to America’s conservative thinkers.

So ML besides getting a kick out of your Twain quote, you made me think to how we in this country get separated and filed into our respective categories by these so called descriptive ideological labels, and how we are swayed with it’s use by the MSM war machine. Joe

The CIA has been a tool of American hegemony for decades where Australia was just one country among many.

In the early eighties before GPS, I was maintaining navigation stations on the Brazilian coast for a research vessel working offshore. I had an interpreter working with me since my Portuguese was limited. One day we were servicing a transmitter when our conversation turned to the US. He remarked:

“I would love to go to the US.” I asked him why and he replied:

“Because you can get something to eat whenever you want!” In my mind, this reply probably said more about Brazil at the time than the US. I then asked him what he dislikes about the US. He replied with a vicious spite I did not expect replying:

“The CIA! They come here buy our politicians, exploit our resources, wreck our finances, and do so caring little for us Brazilians.” US foreign policy in a nutshell!

Yeah Dick, CIA and Co. have a nasty record of “regime changes” around the world. Especially in “our” Monroe Doctrine hemisphere. But mostly, we think of those as being against “3rd World” or at least former Soviet allies. Not a fellow member of the “5 Eyes.” I was curious how an Australian views CIA “regime changing” the elected Australian PM.

That is nobody knows how to run big (except Jeff Bezos sarcasm implied) and big always diminishes the little guy. At least that’s the way I see it. Good comment Daniel. Joe

Thanks and yes. As I understand it, we still have the laws in place to dismantle over-sized corporations and banks. But our “best government money can buy” chooses not to enforce them, and actually refuses to even prosecute criminality by “too big to fail” entities.

John Brennan has joined NBC, and this should not surprise any of us one bit. The old spook is right at home amongst the likes of Maddow and Hayes.

Joe Tedesky: Exactly right, you are spot on with this. Can you just see Hayes and Maddow getting on their knees and kissing the ring of this most disgusting evil guy? The fact that he is hired in any media should cause a rethink of people’s viewing time. He is one of the main instigators of this media mess and propaganda we’re in the middle of and I don’t see an end in sight. Glad I don’t waste any time at all with this crap.

        March 5, 2018 at 21:41

Just let’s hope geeyp NBC doesn’t put Brennan in charge of children programming next.

One of the saddest propaganda campaigns that has been successful was launched through actor Harvey Fierstein, and activist Dan Savage, against Russian Federation Bill N135Z which in it’s common language isn’t so much about gay prohibitions as it is about adult influences on children. (See link attached for a white paper on Russia’s record on their treatment of gays) well anyway, ever since that moment around the Sochi Olympics time Rachel jumped out in front with this Russia homophobia story to bash Russia with all her might, because that’s what our editorial talk show host today in America do. This isn’t rocket science, it’s 5th grade level taunting.

Actually with the privatization of our National Security ‘Deep’ State apparatuses Brennan’s new job at NBC isn’t so much as a NBC hire for a consultant as his new role is a new and special appointment. I’m just starting to see how having a Brennan in a Big 3 Network executive position could be way better than dealing out from in the spooky woods of Virginia…why, imagine Allen Dulles working for one of the big corporate networks back during the JFK era, and you thought the correspondent’s of that era messed it up on exposing who really killed JFK….wow just think of old Allen with an executive suite at CBS over Cronkite, they could have blamed the assassination on the Pope & The Rolling Stones, and got away with it…sorry Mick.

Whew. What a horror! Allen Dulles as a network go-to for analysis. Holy moly, what a thought. Well, he more or less controlled the outcome of the Warren Commission, so not that much different. Speaking of those days, I got it into my head tonight to see if an old cartoon for my yoote was on the net. And I found it. “Clutch Cargo”. Great stuff with the human mouths shown inside the animation. Circa 1959. Much more educational than network news these days!

geeyp I never heard of it, but I looked up ‘Clutch Cargo’ and you are right. It was a limited series due to its low budget, but it was the first of its kind cartoon that used “Syncro-Vox” optical printing system, thusly the superimposed lips over the mouth technique you grew to love so much. It’s one of the….. ah here you read about it ( you probably already have, but others might need to read to gain some knowledge about Clutch Cargo).

            https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clutch_Cargo

In any regard I’d rather see ‘Clutch Cargo’ on my tv screen then creepy John Brennan, I mean that guy gives me the chills. Although it is choked off to coincidence I have always found it mysteriously maybe not so coincidental that John Brennan was visiting in Kiev the day before Flight MH17 went down. In fact his occurrence on the circumferences of events is truly uncanny, like even with the Steele Dossier intrigue Brennan’s shadow lurks. Possibly spookyer than his hero Dulles if that is even possible, but at least on par with the dead passed away president killer.

Hey nonsense factory is quoting Beatles music, we should tie the two together his Beatles with your cartoons of Clutch Cargo…. maybe we could do children programming….move over Brennan we are coming to get your job.

Ha! Clutch Cargo. I remember that piece of dreck from childhood. 1959? I was 12 but still remember that show–which my younger siblings watched and actually liked–because it was soooo bad. They used a snippet of it as a gimmick in Pulp Fiction, where the Bruce Willis character is watching TV as a kid before the Christopher Walken character shows up with the watch. Quentin Tarantino recognises classic American schlock when he sees it. In scene after scene in his movies you think… this is crazy, but you recognise the reality of it in our “culture.”

          Joe,

John Brennan is back – in some other kind of programming. It seems like, the plan to remove Trump from office has entered an ominous phase.

MSNBC has hired John Brenan as a lead warrior in it. There was this article on Oped page in Los Angeles Times yesterday by Doyle McManus titled “Working to Stop Russia”. In the article Putin is blamed about dozen times by name as the man who ordered cyber attack in 2016 election and is working again to do it in 2018 election again. The article is almost a call to arms. Doyle mentions about his contact with senator Cardin to pass all this legislation being proposed to stop Russia from destroying our democracy.

In the article Doyle accuses not only Trump for “dereliction of duty” to defend the Nation as required under oath, he also accuses Donald Trump JR. spreading false information on internet. McManus is one of these modern day serfs; their only one difference from old type serfdom is that they are free to leave their current masters and work for new Masters. They don’t have the guts to run away and become Cossacks like in old Czarist Russia and make their living. Remember they used to write about Russians under Soviets in that tone – some kind of serfs.

Also, we have seen in the newspapers these allegations against Kushner in his financial dealings. In comments on CN and on other venues, there are these opinions that Trump had dealings with Russian Oligarchs Money, especially during 1990’s. I think if there was one they would have found it before 2016 election. Otherwise all these developers have shady deals, Trump is no exception. . The Wall Street is full of shady deals. They may get Trump on those shady deals.

I think the whole Ruling Structure is working together to get at Trump one way or the other – and they are getting closer. Trump after all was elected by the people of the country, against the wishes of the Ruling Establishment. Four years are not a long time – they should have let him govern in peace.

It is hard to tell what the end game is. A war against Russia? Who knows? There are not many sane people left in Washington. TJust about all of them are puppets in the hands of Ruling Oligarchy who rewards them well, in pursuit of fame and power.

Dave just for the hell of it put on Sean Hannity. I watch a little bit of Rachel, and then switch to Hannity, and seriously just the suspect names of the allegations they make are but what changes. Personally of late I have been pulling for Sean to be right, because Hillary needs to be put in her place, especially after what she did to Bernie.

Dave I truly believe there is a plan inside the Deep State to have the MSM control us citizens, and to especially tear us apart from each other. I also believe that a united citizenry would scare the devil out of these butchers. We are all being separated by some kind of matrix of demographics, and with that we all lose out.

I feel you frustration Dave, and the only recourse I can give you is to keep posting comments with us, as this may possibly be your oasis away from the ever loud MSM noise we live through. Hang in there my friend. Joe

            Joe,

“UK participation in World Cup compromised if Russian link to ex-spy case proven – Boris Johnson”

That is the headline on RT. Many of commentators on CN have been writing for some time now that the West will go to any length to disrupt the Russian Election and the Soccer World Cup in Russia. Two Russian Nationals murdered in Salisbury; who is is going to investigate it? We all know how they are going to do it. Then there is this plane crash and other events happening in Syria. It seems to me that The West has decided to strike. It is not a good news for the Syrians.

Boris Johnson acts almost like a clown; that is what many of the British Politicians are becoming; clowns. They are disgracing all their achievements and contributions to the World Civilization which I grew up admiring. No offense is meant to British people, they are just pawns in this unsavory and vicious propaganda by MSM and the Ruling Establishment as we are here in this country.

It hurts me to think that how they – The Ruling Establishment – have just about tarnished the Western Civilization and everything which this civilization achieved. They had been doing all these horrible things for a long time,; slavery, wars, brutal colonization of most of the planet, treatment of American Indians. But there were positive achievements.

Trump? Well he never had any of the qualities needed of a good leader. He is going along to save his own skin. We just have to wait how it goes, day by day. It is almost like a drama, with new opening scene every day.

I’m not that in the dark about the news you bring, but you are reporting details about situations I have yet to read, so thank you.

See also “A Day in the Life”, Beatles, a bit of inspiration I believe:

I read the news today, oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, I just had to laugh
        I saw the photograph

        He blew his mind out in a car;
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
        They’d seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords. . .

Ah I read the news today, oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall

Goes nicely with Apocalypse Now & Marlon Brando:
“We must kill them. We must incinerate them. Pig after pig. Cow after cow. Village after village. Army after army. And they call me an assassin. What do you call it when the assassins accuse the assassin? They lie. They lie, and we have to be merciful, for those who lie. Those nabobs. I hate them. I do hate them.”

Watch Paramont’s made for TV movie ‘Waco’ and pay attention to the Mitch Decker character. The Decker part defines in detail to the mentality that we Americans almost always seem to adhere to. It’s the old American ‘Might makes Right’ coupled with a hateful revenge. It’s the character that overrides any sensible negotiating by replacing our pseudo goodwill with bullets. It’s the classic example of upping the ante by your going full barbaric apeshit crazy over an unarmed foe. It’s called winning, and by many a citizens opinion this method of winning is never at a loss, but I might remind you of how there’s always a first time for everything. Joe

MSNBC is probably less of a warmongering network than FOX, but only by about 1 part in 100. Consider FOX warmongering on North Korea vs. MSNBC warmongering on Russia. . .

This is what the so-called liberals and conservatives in the United States just can’t seem to grasp; 95% of the staged political differences are nothing more than a puppet show run by plutocrats and oligarchs. It’s really amusing to look at MSNBC’s vs. FOX’s Youtube channels – then go look at Al Jazeera, DW English, Euronews, France 24 (kind of neoliberal, but still) – then you realize the US media system today is just like the Soviet media system under Brezhnev in the 1970s.

Look – Trump put in just as many Goldman Sachs insiders as Hillary Clinton would have. Why is that?

They can be abusive in their position, although much is motivated out of their hatred of Trump. These people never look at the Obama administration, whom MSNBC touted all during his administration, as having contributed to the mess we’re in, or his escalation of the cold war, and the coup in Ukraine, or the horror that is stilled called Libya. It’s without a doubt very unfair that labels are being passed out to a public which has never heard the truth, Anon. It would be a wonderful case study to if suddenly our news only reported the truth to see in time where the opinions and particular persuasions of folks would put them. While we are at it we would do well to redefine our labeling system to better describe the Left vs the Right. Now that I come to think of it, our society can’t agree on anything in total, and our news has been so convoluted for so long that if the MSM were to suddenly come clean with the truth that there would be riots and blood flowing in our streets over the media’s honest admittance. Ugly wouldn’t even describe it well enough. But yeah, these labels and the vitriol that we unleash upon each other is certainly not bringing us closer together as a nation. That is unless you are a natural skeptic or the anthropomorphism of a “bum steer”. That is the steer in the herd that shouts out a warning not to go down the cattle chute to slaughter. Cattlemen hate these wild independent beasts who refuse to go along with the group think. Robert Parry was one such “bum steer” and I thank the gods for having found him when I did. Of course the idiomatic interpretation in the dictionary version of the definition of “bum steer” is the exact opposite . It is defined as one who steers others astray from the truth. This is no doubt the view of cattlemen charged with leading herds to slaughter and is quite the politically correct propagandist definition of those with alternative views to the group think. If you believe that me and Bob have steered you astray then you are probably headed down the chute. Too bad for you for listening to the group think and the propaganda news that there is salvation by following the direction of those leading you to slaughter. It is in their interest to lead you astray. They are the shepherds who need you to conform to the group think. To stay in between the lines. They are on MSNBC as much as they are on Fox News. They shepherd the left and the right. They steer us on a course headed for our doom to support their business models of World domination with an insatiable appetite for human sacrifice. If you don’t think their aim is to kill us and eat us then you are just heading down the chute.

        From The Lion in Winter:

Prince John: A knife! He’s got a knife!

Eleanor: Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It’s 1183 and we’re barbarians! How clear we make it. Oh, my piglets, we are the origins of war: not history’s forces, nor the times, nor justice, nor the lack of it, nor causes, nor religions, nor ideas, nor kinds of government, nor any other thing. We are the killers. We breed wars. We carry it like syphilis inside. Dead bodies rot in field and stream because the living ones are rotten. For the love of God, can’t we love one another just a little – that’s how peace begins. We have so much to love each other for. We have such possibilities, my children. We could change the world.

Eleanor: I even made poor Louis take me on Crusade. How’s that for blasphemy. I dressed my maids as Amazons and rode bare-breasted halfway to Damascus. Louis had a seizure and I damn near died of windburn… but the troops were dazzled.

Dazzled we are all are by the spectacle of our righteous glory marching into battle against our enemies led by a bare breasted woman. Distracted we all are as to how wrong our attentions are focused on her breasts of freedom and not on the injustice we are about to commit.

Such is the power of the media to distract us with titillating views of grandeur and false justice and a belief we are going to war for virtue and honor. In the end we are led by a tit. How stupid is that?

Were Trump serious about opposing the Neocons, he would instruct his Justice Dept to begin investigating and charging them with war crimes.

With every person even hinted at for his picks heavily critiqued as some Russian master spy with distraction from every direction? I wish you would think it through and then see if your cut and dried simple scenario is just that simple. Whatever Justice was left in this country was crushed in 2000 with the non election of W. through to the finish Nov. 7, 2016.

Mello faults the Democrats for insisting on an adversarial relationship with the Russians. But leadership from Trump is lacking. I haven’t heard a peep or tweet from Trump expressing any reservations about the latest NPR and he certainly hasn’t followed up on his campaign rhetoric and inaugural address. But here I will simply reference Realist 5:41 pm comment (Putin’s Electoral Manifesto) on Room 101.

Seems to me his chastisement of the MSM (most particularly CNN) was for the most part simply in defense of himself–lacking the needed depth or critique. I see no leadership in the man..no strong sense of what he thinks or stands for–and certainly nothing much in the way of using the “bully pulpit” as it were.

But then, I don’t actually think he has the right stuff inside to begin with. So he’s not just a coward…he’s an unprincipled coward. And certainly no leader. The last President to have principles–and courage to boot–lived for those principles and was killed for that courage.

Gregory one of my biggest concerns, is that with all of this Russia-Gate psy-op business is that any president, and or especially Trump would be taking an overly large risk to back channel diplomacy with Russia, as it is now to big of a gamble to make.

Imagine Rachel getting wind of a Trump’s secret detente relationship going on with Putin. I picture Rachel would be torn between her patriotism or her ratings, and sorry but I lean towards her picking her ratings over a successful conclusion with the many Russian issues that she helped instigate. Besides Putin’s bluffing, he just had cool graphics in his animated videos he showed with his weapons advancement announcement during his Russian Federation State of the Union Address. If the stuff hits the fan I suggest we do like in Road Warrior and tie Rachel & Chris, and let’s throw in a Joy Ann to a B83 warhead and let it sail…aim it somewhere near these coordinates 31.0461° N, 34.8516° E. Good luck, and people will name bridges and buildings after you if you succeed. Joe

If you were a viewer of the TV program American Horror Story: Cult this past fall, you might think that Rachel Maddow was a template for many of the hysterical anti-Trump characters who, in the end, justified any action, including murder, in support of their politics. To be fair and balanced, the other side was portrayed as equally crazy.

Sans Carter, who I didn’t always agree with, a refreshing change from the last NINE presidents. Talk is cheap, especially when it isn’t your rear end on the line. I didn’t see any President stand up to the entrenched like President Trump has, of course except for FDR and JFK.

          • Gregory Herr
            March 6, 2018 at 19:19

Okay, so it is Trump whose rear end is on the line…in the sense that if he stands up for what’s right and goes against “entrenched” powers like Wall Street/CIA, he could wind up like Kennedy. I get that.

But in another sense, my rear end is on the line…and more importantly to me, the rear ends of 3 children ages 15, 12, and 10.

When Trump outsources his duties to the generals while writing blank checks to the Pentagon…I’ve got something to say. When he blusters about on the world stage in tandem with hapless Haley, and raises threat levels towards Iran and Korea, and allows for continued despicable and dangerous actions in Syria…I’ve got something to say.
How much courage does a President have to have to engage this nation in a bit of conversation about issues of war and peace? Or to hold a more or less “open” summit with other national leaders, including so-called “enemies”, and allow the world some room to speak, listen, and breathe. Now that would be leadership.

No Trump has not stood up to “the entrenched”– he hasn’t even got his arse out the gilded chair. The “cheap talk” was the few fine words at the inaugural that he probably had no hand in producing. Yes, he gave CNN the business and opposed the TPP. Wow. I’m impressed with the “leadership” it took to grant the wealthy more breaks and the Pentagon more cash while continuing to ignore the problems with our economy and domestic needs (like my ability to retire or the ability of college grads to find suitable employment)–and continuing the same old foreign policy. He can bring himself to say Russiagate is bull (the part that concerns himself), but he doesn’t have the nerve to say why.

So I risk social ostracism, the welcome mat at the place from which my labor allows for survival, and the possibility of being persecuted down the line–all for having the dignity to stand up for my sense of humanism and justice. All for using the voice that is my duty as an American to use. And the future of the children I love? That’s supposed to take a back seat to concern for the what the President can and can’t do in service to that future without risk to himself? What did he take the job for then? It’s a serious job for serious people. Stand up or get out of the way Mr. President. I want the future of our children to be there…and to be there with some grace and dignity and opportunity. And that’s not cheap talk.

Gregory Herr – I understand where you’re coming from (as I’ve got youngins too), but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Trump is up against an entrenched bureaucracy. 94% of Washington, D.C. (yeah, most of the bureaucrats) voted for Hillary Clinton, and they hate Trump because he might upset their cushy little status quo. His administration is leaking like a sieve, and he is hated by everyone he sees in Washington.

He’s up against the Clinton machine (yeah, remember Seth Rich?), the media machine, a corrupt Department of Justice, FBI, CIA and quite probably State Department. Sessions is doing nothing, and Rosenstein is running the show. Where is that little prick Rosenstein getting his power from? Who’s giving it to him? He didn’t seem at all bothered when he was giving evidence in front of the Intelligence Committee.

Trump promised a wall. How’s that going? He’s trying hard to get it, but Congress is too bought and paid for, and their donors want the cheap labor. Trump is trying to pass laws to evict the dangerous illegals, but every cesspool of a city is claiming “sanctuary, sanctuary” and working against him. The Federal judges are also ruling against him, just taking it upon themselves to thwart their President because somehow they know better.

He’s brought in tariffs against steel and aluminum imports, gotten rid of the TPP, and he’s trying to bring jobs back. Gary Cohn, Trump’s top economic advisor, just resigned over the tariffs. So far Trump hasn’t bombed the world; just a lot of bark.

To top it all off, the ridiculous farce of Russiagate has hounded him day and night.

It ain’t over ’til it’s over, Gregory. Let’s see what comes out of the Inspector General’s Report re the Department of Justice and the FBI. I see today that House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy and House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte have called for a second Special Counsel to investigate the FBI and the Department of Justice. If this happens, it will turn the tables.

Gregory Herr- I have read your comment regarding effect on family and I have had the same issues and complaints over the last 40 years. You are not the only one in this situation. That is no solace, I know. Your points regarding the future of your children’s employment and survival are valid, of course, and since the 1970s, earnings on graphs show a negative decline. This is not something that started with President Trump. You are entitled to your own opinion if you feel otherwise. This country’s economy has rigged its people’s future since around 1973, if not 1963.

My main point is that Trump has not stood up to the entrenched nor displayed leadership. I am cognizant of general economic “rigging” well before Trump.

Just a lot of bark? Tell that to the people of Mosul and Raqqa. Increased drone strikes (with loosened restrictions) aren’t doing people any favors in Yemen Afghanistan, and Somalia either. The NPR is a further entrenchment of a dangerous-minded outlook on the world that Trump shows every sign of buying into,

In all due respect to the well articulated arguments of geeyp and b.e., i agree with Gregory on all points. Trump may put up a good fight, but it’s in his own self interest.

A major war, with the possibility of death and destruction being visited upon their own homeland? In a “representative government” the people are ultimately responsible for the crimes committed by their government. The American people deserve to get their ass kicked, and kicked good.

We are very far from having a representative government. The American people, like the rest of the world’s people, are getting their asses kicked by the sociopaths that rule the world. Victims of propaganda are victims too. Those ultimately responsible for the crimes committed by our government are the knowing perpetrators of that propaganda. They are the ones who deserve to have their asses kicked. Our system of “representative government” has been corrupt to the core for my entire lifetime. My only hope is that sites like this one will reach a wide enough audience that we will eventually reach a tipping point. Even now the propaganda machine is beginning to show cracks, and our populace is more divided than ever. I think our only hope for a peaceful transition is for a third party to mount a viable campaign in 2020, make the 15% for the debates, and destroy the Republicrats once and for all. If not, violent revolution or collapse is inevitable. “The center cannot hold…and the blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned.

Hey Skip you would not believe the kind of day I am having. First I met with the investment guy at the bank, and he agreed with me over world events. Then I visited a jeweler to buy my wife a present for her birthday, and he felt the same way the investment banker did. Then I ran in to a buddy of mine who is a wide-load trucker, and boy oh boy did he have our geopolitical world so right.

What I am getting at Skip, is there are those moments when I do find people who see life the way I see these world events unfolding, and what we should do about it.

My wonderment is over whether maybe there are more of us type of thinkers than we do realize, and to if our media is keeping us all to the belief the establishment wishes us to have…if I’m making any sense at all. Joe

            Hi Joe-

It took me a while to get back to this article. I think it’s great that more and more people are seeing the light. I think the propagandists over played their hand with RussiaGate, and their desperation became transparent. More and more folks are realizing that the president is just a puppet once he’s elected, or the dark forces of the world will work to destroy him. Once enough folks are on to their game, it will be just a matter of time until we finally win. “The arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
