Neocons Leverage Trump-Hate for More Wars

Exclusive: The enactment of new sanctions against Russia and Iran – with the support of nearly all Democrats and Republicans in Congress – shows how the warmongering neocons again have come out on top, reports Robert Parry.

By Robert Parry

A savvy Washington observer once told me that the political reality about the neoconservatives is that they alone couldn’t win you a single precinct in the United States. But both Republicans and Democrats still line up to gain neocon support or at least neocon acceptance.

A scene from “Dr. Strangelove,” in which the bomber pilot (played by actor Slim Pickens) rides a nuclear bomb to its target in the Soviet Union.

Part of the reason for this paradox is the degree of dominance that the neoconservatives have established in the national news media – as op-ed writers and TV commentators – and the neocon ties to the Israel Lobby that is famous for showering contributions on favored politicians and on the opponents of those not favored.

Since the neocons’ emergence as big-time foreign policy players in the Reagan administration, they also have demonstrated extraordinary resilience, receiving a steady flow of money often through U.S. government-funded grants from organizations such as the National Endowment for Democracy and through donations from military contractors to hawkish neocon think tanks.

But neocons’ most astonishing success over the past year may have been how they have pulled liberals and even some progressives into the neocon strategies for war and more war, largely by exploiting the Left’s disgust with President Trump.

People who would normally favor international cooperation toward peaceful resolution of conflicts have joined the neocons in ratcheting up global tensions and making progress toward peace far more difficult.

The provocative “Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act,” which imposes sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea while tying President Trump’s hands in removing those penalties, passed the Congress without a single Democrat voting no.

The only dissenting votes came from three Republican House members – Justin Amash of Michigan, Jimmy Duncan of Tennessee, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky – and from Republican Rand Paul of Kentucky and Independent Bernie Sanders of Vermont in the Senate.

In other words, every Democrat present for the vote adopted the neocon position of escalating tensions with Russia and Iran. The new sanctions appear to close off hopes for a détente with Russia and may torpedo the nuclear agreement with Iran, which would put the bomb-bomb-bomb option back on the table just where the neocons want it.

The Putin Obstacle

As for Russia, the neocons have viewed President Vladimir Putin as a major obstacle to their plans at least since 2013 when he helped President Obama come up with a compromise with Syria that averted a U.S. military strike over dubious claims that the Syrian military was responsible for a sarin gas attack outside Damascus on Aug. 21, 2013.

Subsequent evidence indicated that the sarin attack most likely was a provocation by Al Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate to trick the U.S. military into entering the war on Al Qaeda’s side.

While you might wonder why the U.S. government would even think about taking actions that would benefit Al Qaeda, which lured the U.S. into this Mideast quagmire in the first place by attacking on 9/11, the answer is that Israel and the neocons – along with Saudi Arabia and other Sunni-governed states – favored an Al Qaeda victory if that was what was needed to shatter the so-called “Shiite crescent,” anchored in Iran and reaching through Syria to Lebanon.

Many neocons are, in effect, America’s Israeli agents and – since Israel is now allied with Saudi Arabia and the Sunni Gulf states versus Iran – the neocons exercise their media/political influence to rationalize U.S. military strikes against Iran’s regional allies, i.e., Syria’s secular government of Bashar al-Assad.

For his part, Putin compounded his offense to the neocons by facilitating Obama’s negotiations with Iran that imposed strict constraints on Iran’s actions toward development of a nuclear bomb and took U.S. war against Iran off the table. The neocons, Israel and Saudi Arabia wanted the U.S. military to lead a bombing campaign against Iran with the hope of crippling their regional adversary and possibly even achieving “regime change” in Tehran.

Punishing Russia

It was in that time frame that NED’s neocon President Carl Gershman identified Ukraine as the “biggest prize” and an important step toward the even bigger prize of removing Putin in Russia.

Former Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Victoria Nuland, who pushed for the Ukraine coup and helped pick the post-coup leaders.

Other U.S. government neocons, including Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Victoria Nuland and Sen. John McCain, delivered the Ukraine “prize” by supporting the Feb. 22, 2014 coup that overthrew the elected government of Ukraine and unleashed anti-Russian nationalists (including neo-Nazis) who began killing ethnic Russians in the south and east near Russia’s border.

When Putin responded by allowing Crimeans to vote on secession from Ukraine and reunification with Russia, the West – and especially the neocon-dominated mainstream media – denounced the move as a “Russian invasion.” Covertly, the Russians also helped ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine who defied the coup regime in Kiev and faced annihilation from Ukrainian military forces, including the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, which literally displayed Swastikas and SS symbols. Putin’s assistance to these embattled ethnic Russian Ukrainians became “Russian aggression.”

Many U.S. pundits and journalists – in the conservative, centrist and liberal media – were swept up by the various hysterias over Syria, Iran and Russia – much as they had been a decade earlier around the Iraq-WMD frenzy and the “responsibility to protect” (or R2P) argument for the violent “regime change” in Libya in 2011. In all these cases, the public debate was saturated with U.S. government and neocon propaganda, much of it false.

But it worked. For instance, the neocons and their liberal-interventionist sidekicks achieved extraordinary success in seducing many American “peace activists” to support the “regime change” war in Syria by sending sympathetic victims of the Syrian government on speaking tours.

Meanwhile, the major U.S. media essentially flacked for “moderate” Syrian rebels who just happened to be fighting alongside Al Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate and sharing their powerful U.S.-supplied weapons with the jihadists, all the better to kill Syrian soldiers trying to protect the secular government in Damascus.

Successful Propaganda

As part of this propaganda process, the jihadists’ P.R. adjunct, known as the White Helmets, phoned in anti-government atrocity stories to eager and credulous Western journalists who didn’t dare visit the Al Qaeda-controlled zones for fear of being beheaded.

A heart-rending propaganda image designed to justify a major U.S. military operation inside Syria against the Syrian military.

Still, whenever the White Helmets or other “activists” accused the Syrian government of some unlikely chemical attack, the information was treated as gospel. When United Nations investigators, who were under enormous pressure to confirm the propaganda tales beloved in the West, uncovered evidence that one of the alleged chlorine attacks was staged by the jihadists, the mainstream U.S. media politely looked the other way and continued to treat the chemical-weapons stories as credible.

Historian and journalist Stephen Kinzer has said, “Coverage of the Syrian war will be remembered as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the American press.”

But all these successes in the neocons’ “perception management” operations pale when compared to what the neocons have accomplished since Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton last November.

Fueled by the shock and disgust over the egotistical self-proclaimed pussy-grabber ascending to the highest office in the land, many Americans looked for both an excuse for explaining the outcome and a strategy for removing Trump as quickly as possible. The answer to both concerns became: blame Russia.

The evidence that Russia had “hacked our democracy” was very thin – some private outfit called Crowdstrike found Cyrillic lettering and a reference to the founder of the Soviet KGB in some of the metadata – but that “incriminating evidence” contradicted Crowdstrike’s own notion of a crack Russian hacking operation that was almost impossible to trace.

So, even though the FBI failed to secure the Democratic National Committee’s computers so the government could do its own forensic analysis, President Obama assigned his intelligence chiefs, CIA Director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, to come up with an assessment that could be used to blame Trump’s victory on “Russian meddling.” Obama, of course, shared the revulsion over Trump’s victory, since the real-estate mogul/reality-TV star had famously launched his own political career by spreading the lie that Obama was born in Kenya.

‘Hand-Picked’ Analysts

According to Clapper’s later congressional testimony, the analysts for this job were “hand-picked” from the CIA, FBI and National Security Agency and assigned to produce an “assessment” before Obama left office. Their Jan. 6 report was remarkable in its lack of evidence and the analysts themselves admitted that it fell far short of establishing anything as fact. It amounted to a continuation of the “trust us” approach that had dominated the anti-Russia themes for years.

Much of the thin report focused on complaints about Russia’s RT network for covering the Occupy Wall Street protests and sponsoring a 2012 debate for third-party presidential candidates who had been excluded from the Democratic-Republican debates between President Obama and former Gov. Mitt Romney.

The absurdity of citing such examples in which RT contributed to the public debate in America as proof of Russia attacking American democracy should have been apparent to everyone, but the Russia-gate stampede had begun and so instead of ridiculing the Jan. 6 report as an insult to reason, its shaky Russia-did-it conclusions were embraced as unassailable Truth, buttressed by the false claim that the assessment represented the consensus view of all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies.

So, for instance, we get the internal contradictions of a Friday column by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius who starts off by making a legitimate point about Washington groupthink.

“When all right-thinking people in the nation’s capital seem to agree on something – as has been the case recently with legislation imposing new sanctions on Russia – that may be a warning that the debate has veered into an unthinking herd mentality,” Ignatius wrote as he questioned the wisdom of overusing sanctions and tying the President’s hands on when to remove sanctions.

Lost Logic

But Ignatius failed to follow his own logic when it came to the core groupthink about Russia “meddling” in the U.S. election. Despite the thinness of the evidence, the certainty about Russia’s guilt is now shared by “all right-thinking people” in Washington, who agree that this point is beyond dispute despite the denials from both WikiLeaks, which published the purloined Democratic emails, and the Russian government.

Russian President Vladimir Putin meets with U.S. President Donald Trump at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, on July 7, 2017. (Screen shot from Whitehouse.gov)

Ignatius seemed nervous that his mild deviation from the conventional wisdom about the sanctions bill might risk his standing with the Establishment, so he added:

“Don’t misunderstand me. In questioning congressional review of sanctions, I’m not excusing Trump’s behavior. His non-response to Russia’s well-documented meddling in the 2016 presidential election has been outrageous.”

However, as usual for the U.S. mainstream media, Ignatius doesn’t cite any of those documents. Presumably, he’s referring to the Jan. 6 assessment, which itself contained no real evidence to support its opinion that Russia hacked into Democratic emails and gave them to WikiLeaks for distribution.

Just because a lot of Important People keep repeating the same allegation doesn’t make the allegation true or “well-documented.” And skepticism should be raised even higher when there is a clear political motive for pushing a falsehood as truth, as we should have learned from President George W. Bush’s Iraq-WMD fallacies and from President Barack Obama’s wild exaggerations about the need to intervene in Libya to prevent a massacre of civilians.

But Washington neocons always start with a leg up because of their easy access to the editorial pages of The New York Times and Washington Post as well as their speed-dial relationships with producers at CNN and other cable outlets.

Yet, the neocons have achieved perhaps their greatest success by merging Cold War Russo-phobia with the Trump Derangement Syndrome to enlist liberals and even progressives into the neocon drive for more “regime change” wars.

There can be no doubt that the escalation of sanctions against Russia and Iran will have the effect of escalating geopolitical tensions with those two important countries and making war, even nuclear war, more likely.

In Iran, hardliners are already telling President Hassan Rouhani, “We told you so” that the U.S. government can’t be trusted in its promise to remove – not increase – sanctions in compliance with the nuclear agreement.

And, Putin, who is actually one of the more pro-Western leaders in Russia, faces attacks from his own hardliners who view him as naïve in thinking that Russia would ever be accepted by the West.

Even relative Kremlin moderates such as Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, are citing Trump’s tail-between-his-legs signing of the sanctions bill as proof that the U.S. establishment has blocked any hope for a détente between Washington and Moscow.

In other words, the prospects for advancing the neocon agenda of more “regime change” wars and coups have grown – and the neocons can claim as their allies virtually the entire Democratic Party hierarchy which is so eager to appease its angry #Resistance base that even the heightened risk of nuclear war is being ignored.

We heard a lot about Ukrainian nazi’s from Azov and saw the same pictures I lost count how many times, but how about Russian nazi’s? Why didn’t R. Parry cover this topic? Just a few “colorful” examples.

How about Russian National Union and Gubarev?
How about interview of Alexei Chalyi where he admitted that annexation of Crimea was prepared long time ago before even 2004 and that escape of Yanukovich was a convenient excuse to portrait everything like a coup in Kiev and move on.

Did anybody hear about FSB taking control over Belarus borders? Does it sound like a peaceful move?

Let us give the neocons a new more descriptive name….ISRAEL FIRSTERS.

Yesterday, the news reported that the Sen.Majority Leader was in Israel to assure Israel that “our bonds with them is UNSHAKABLE”? Well, since when our government or our media, especially under Trump has threatened to dump Israel as an ally? The US is the junior partner in this American-Israeli friendship, just as Sharon has said it in the Keneset DON’T WORRY ABOUT AMERICA, WE RUN AMERICA.

Once again I’m impressed with CONSORTIUM as a real news and commentary outlet, and also with the quality of the reader’s comments. I would only urge all to be more than chroniclers of the dystopian NWO, the U.S., British, Zionist oligarchy and their lying, omitting media.

We have TRUTH and should not despair in speaking truth to power. The strategy is simple in theory, more difficult in practice in that it calls for COURAGE to implement.

For instance, when Trump blared during last September’s 9/11 memorial media show how “everybody knew Muslims were seen dancing and cheering while the Towers were coming down, how many people do you know who actually spoke the TRUTH about that incident that Israelis were literally arrested by the FBI because a woman saw them filming the Towers and they were dancing and cheering?

Please don’t shirk away from the physics, jet fuel can’t collapse three Skyscrapers exactly like a controlled demolition can and did. The fireman on the scene who later died or are grievously ill because they inhaled Zionist Larry Silversteins deadly dust spoke truth when they reported systematic explosions and saw rivers of molten steel in the Towers. This is just a speck of the REAL, TRUTHFUL evidence that people are simply not courageous or not sufficiently knowledgeable about physics to comprehend but MUST comprehend.

The PNAC NEOCONS knew what too many, well intentioned people today still haven’t figured out: the sleepwalking public needs to be galvanized into accepting something they otherwise wouldn’t accept, and fear is what the ZIONIST NEOCONS provided when they followed up on their promise to deliver A New Pearl Harbor. To think the very same people who lied and fabricated evidence leading to the Iraq slaughter which has destroyed MILLIONS of lives and continues to destroy lives, are somehow not so evil as to plan and carry out an event that cost the destruction of 3,000 lives boggles the mind. Are people so afraid of being stigmatized as a conspiracy theorist that they won’t utter a word of the mountains of physical and circumstantial evidence compiled and analyzed by engineers, scientists, statesmen, scholars and millions of other intelligent people?

“When you have removed the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable is the TRUTH.” —- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

We must use truth as a lever to pry up the shield the media provides for the heads of the corrupt system, the international banksters, their intelligence agencies, MIC and their pack of crooked, morally defunct, venal self-serving politicians. TRUTH IS OUR ONLY WEAPON against the wicked forces of despotic, narcissistic materialism.

No one knows anything about the project for new American century or the statement “we have to have something as big as Pearl Harbor” to get the population to foam at the mouth for revenge and wars. I think the majority of our population are not politically aware. Then, if we go through the minority’s political addicts like you and me, we still have no significant number of these minority talking about that infemous report. The reason is the Republicans have defended Bush blindly and till now no one is calling for putting him behind bars. On the other hand, the democrats typically follow the mainstream press, which is not interested in outing the neocons as ISRAEL FIRSTERS GANG. For example, the typical alternative news as Rush, or Hannity where the right gets their information never talked about the Pearl Harbor story! You and I are minority of a minority.

Great article, but again Perry apologies for liberals. In reality neoliberals are just as much as a danger as neoconservatives. Susan Rice, Samantha Powers, and Hillary Clinton are horrible war mongers. If Hillary had won we would be in open warfare with Syria — and she is a neoliberal, like this guy:

“Who would have thought it? I’m really good at killing people.”

Those who consider themselves progressive have have clearly descended into full blown hysteria over Trump to the point of being convinced to join ranks with the CIA which has used massive violence and every illegal trick they could invent to undermine the left both in the US and globally. Talk about masochism.

More disinfo being pushed by Parry. Al Qaeda did NOT attack the USA on 9/11. The Sept 11, 2001 attacks were a false flag operation which was orchestrated, engineered, and carried out by a collusion between the criminal, false flag terrorism specializing state of Israel (read: MOSSAD), and rogue and treasonous elements within the CIA, NSA, Pentagon, the Bush-Cheney White House and the diabolically evil cabal of mostly (but not entirely) jewish neocons who were part of the PNAC gang – who had repeatedly opined how much they would need a “New Pearl Harbor” kind of event in order to snooker the not very bright, embarrassingly gullible, and nose picking stupid American public into going along with their lust to kick off 100 years worth of wars against any nation that Israel hated and wanted to con us in to attacking and destroying for them.

It has been 16 years and Robert Parry is still shoveling the same, easily debunked, discredited, and transparent neo-con LYING narrative about 9-11?

Why do you think that that Al Qaeda all of sudden stopped working for CIA, when they were buddies in Afghanistan before, then in Libya and now in Syria? If Al Qaeda did not participate in 911, then it would have been a discontinuity in a fruitful long-term relationship. Somebody has to supply the crazies to the job at the coalface, or should I say blowupface.

I would disagree with Mr Parry’s analysis of Putin’s relationship to the neocons. At some point prior to 2104, Putin became a neocon “asset”. His role was to serve as a battering ram to break up the hated EU into a plethora of small statelets which would be dependent for their defence on the US and then to serve as a bogeyman to scare those statelets into accepting that dependence. Judging from subsequent events, his “reward” was to be given by Yanukovych, quite legally and without any use of force, at very least, Crimea, the four provinces through which the Kharkov – Sebastopol railway line passes, Donetsk and Lugansk, which lie to the east of the line, plus the whole of Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, giving a land link to Transnistria and turning rump Ukraine into a Russian puppet state. The pro-EU demonstrations didn’t fit in with the neocon “script” and took everybody by surprise. Yanukovych panicked and decided to sign the EU Association Agreement, whereupon Nuland panicked and caused Yanukovych to flee (he was never actually overthrown), whereupon Putin panicked, grabbed Crimea and tried to foment a series of “rebellions”, which succeeded only in the Donetsk-Lugansk “sausage”. After initial attempts to rescue Putin, the neocons realised that by letting Putin “get away with it”, Obama had torpedoed the credibility of the US as the defender of Europe (and, the logical geographical corollary, Israel) and of NATO as the instrument for providing that defence, thereby undermining Israel’s defence position. The only way to restore US and NATO credibility is to get Putin out of Ukraine, one way or the other, so the neocons have, logically, gone in that direction. By wading into the Syrian civil war, Putin made it part of his broader fight with the US. Putin’s American support now consists of the died-in-the-wool EU haters, of all ideologies, the alt-right, the knee-jerk “America bad, not-America good” people and a few people on the far left who still think Putin is a closet communist. Those are all fairly marginal groups with little public support, so it’s not surprising that the anti-Putin groups, and not just the neocons, are getting the upper hand.

A Pharaoh authored US Constitutional divides Americans into two groups. The constitution bestows all political power to one group and saps all political power from the other group. The Pharaohs have long been successful with their divide and conquer strategies.

What does division accomplish? Division weakens the collective bargaining strength of the group taken as a whole. Division pits group members against each other. Without political power, division prevents “majority rule” from resolving internal conflict. No matter the cause or its urgency, without majority rule, and the political power to enforce it, there can rarely be a group consensus.

What does propaganda do Propaganda fans and strengthens internal conflict.

The constitution sorts, divides and groups 340,000,527 Americans into either PAs or AAs

The small paid group of slave drivers: the pharaoh assistant group (PAG) consists of 527 PAs
PAs own all of the political power but their power is divided into three opposed groups [RES]:
    (representatives 425 voting districts, 2 executives 100 senators(2/state)
The large unpaid slave group: the Answerable Americans consists of 340,000,000 persons AAs
AAs own no political power; are culturally morality & locality separated as either Democrat or Republican.

I urge you to examine the current day situation in light of the above structural considerations. Then consider who is or who are the pharaohs.

The US is playing a game of chicken with Russia. The strategy is to convince the Russians that they have a choice between abject surrender of facing total annihilation. But of course total annihilation is really off the table. Not only would a ‘victory’ for the Anglo-zionists be, shall we say, somewhat pyrrhic, there would be all the joys of a following and certain nuclear winter to contend with. Moreover, the process of global warming and climate change would be vastly accelerated. Unquestionably this would really be the end of the world. This should be common knowledge, and I am quite sure that even the most harebrained members of the American establishment are aware of this. After all, they only stay in their fall-out shelters for a limited amount of time – then what?

Nonetheless the provocations will continue until Russia is backed into a corner and the Russian leadership – and personally I hope Putin, who has been far too accommodating, will stand down and hand over the reins to the likes of Zhirinovsky, Dugin and Glazyev – who might concentrate American minds wonderfully. It’s either this or surrender and get ready for the next round against China. No. I don’t want to live in an Anglo-zionist world under the US imperium. As in 1941 it has fallen to Russia to make a stand for humanity.

The zionist empire has pushed the world to the brink, let them surrender.

      August 6, 2017 at 07:56

You see Putin as weak in his tactics dealing with US provocations. But I see him as strong and wise in his strategy. He is more like Mohammed Ali than Mike Tyson. A brute force response from Russia might engender an out of control escalation ending in nuclear disaster for all sides. Your comments seem to assume that one or both players have more control of events than I think they do. Games of chicken are very unstable, and provoke a situation where emotions of fear and aggression can escalate out of control. Also keeping guns cocked on hair triggers can lead to accidental or unauthorized launches, or mechanical failures, misinterpreted signals, and a host of unforeseen and uncontrolled circumstances. As the tension of a chicken contest increases, judgment becomes impaired, and fear for one’s safety can lead to irrational and impulsive actions.

There are only two ways out of a game of chicken: either one or both parties fire their weapons, or they find a way to deescalate the confrontation. Putin is working for the second option, thank God.

The US is not interested in de-escalation they are intent on conflict. Putin’s diplomacy has so far failed to stop the drive to war of the Anglo-zionist war machine. Putin did nothing when the US installed an ABM base in Romania. Next up is one for Poland in 2018. Moreover, talks for Ukraine and Georgia joining NATO are on the table again, will Putin back down again? If he does then the neo-cons will conclude that Russia is a paper tiger. What next one wonders, another base in Belarus perhaps. Appeasement never works. As Churchill forcefully reminded Chamberlain in 1938 when he came back from Germany with a promise of peace in our time from Hitler.

”You were given a choice between dishonour or war. You chose dishonour and you will get war.”

The puzzle for me is these neocons and the war party including the libturds are all in a hurry to start a nuclear Holocaust between us and Russia / China. Let us assume they got their way? Where are they going to hide? OK, let us assume our government has a huge shelter for privileged people like the Talmudic gang, and they survived the nuclear devastation? Then they will step out of the shelter to a radioactive America? How is that “life” any better than our current life with Putin on this side of the grass?

I am almost for a preemptive single night strike that takes out the Israeli knesset, Mossad, and what ever other evil places they hang out. Also the house of Saud, and the Israeli lobby/AIPAC and see where the chips may fall. My guess is a crippling of Israel’s zionist power in a single series of apocalyptic strikes would free the world. Or at least put a smile on my face, if only for a short while.

Certainly a prolonged militarily-enforced embargo on Israel would be the minimum coercion to force them to consider any just resolution of their apartheid, but likely they would abrogate that, and it would not end their corruption of the US Congress and mass media. So perhaps you are right: we must hope that they continue digging their own grave, having made enemies of their neighbors. The Russia-Iran alliance is the only real hope there, that Israel and KSA will cause a nuclear strike and invasion of themselves. They sure deserve it. But it will not free the US from zionism.

If you are like me, you enjoy reading a variety of opinion. Here is a link to an article describing how the Bush family is behind the problems which are nagging Donald Trump. Author Tony Heller, actually makes claims that the Bush’s are throwing everything they got against Trump that they can find, and this is revenge for what Trump did to low energy Jeb, plus the Bush’s love the MIC.

Remember this is Tony Heller’s opinion, but Heller does raise some interesting points enough to trash around in your head for consideration.

Trump is signing on to save his presidency and perhaps buy some time, but I think he doesn’t quite get it. The neo-cons consider trump to belong to the basket of deplorables or whatever epithet hillary hung on them in her speech. They consider him unfit to rule and when he did not welcome them to his national security team, they joined the media in attacking him and his foreign policy. This is just another exercise in regime change to that gang, only this time the target is the U.S. president. With Mueller on the loose, trump is beginning to sweat because he has lost control of the agenda and that is unfamiliar territory to this reality tv president who is used to working with a script that ends with him wearing a cape and flying off into the sunset with a super model. I’m beginning to believe they are going to pull it off and trump won’t survive his first term. Then we get the vp from the only state that the governor’s office and both houses of the legislature was once controlled by the KKK all at once back between the world wars. Wonder how he will get along with the neo-cons?

Vote against all incumbents in the next several elections. Vote third party or leave the ballot blank. Whether you are a Dem or a GOPer, tell the shameless blood suckers who ask for monetary support to bugger off and make it clear why they have lost your vote. Maybe they will slowly get the message. Either they are removed from office or they will destroy the world. In more civil days, I’d say march and protest in the streets, but that will get your head cracked and eyes sprayed with mace today. Just stop voting for them and contributing to them. One more thing: stop watching the political propaganda shows on television, like Rachel Maddow, it only inflates their ratings and encourages them to spread more propaganda. If you are so inclined, write the networks and tell them why you are disgusted with their political coverage. I’d say email congress critters, but they only allow you to contact your own representative and senators, you are blocked from all others unless you misrepresent your identity. Same problem with caller ID on the phone lines. They have it rigged so as not to get meaningful feedback they don’t want to hear. But when they contact you, which they will do to beg for money, let ’em have between the eyeballs.

What I find scary is that “main stream media”, and I suppose that means CNN, Washington Post and NYT, have all decided to deceive us along with our government. Who decided? Someone name names. It is so frustrating to read day after day about “mainstream media”, NYT and the Post did this or that. Why doesn’t someone start publishing names.

There are decision makers that no doubt have an agenda or an ox that can be gored that cause these things to be written and published. Does Ignatius’ boss or editor influence this? Where does Bezos fit, he owns the Post. Someone needs to start naming names if they know. The entire industry comes down to a few names that presumably decide what gets printed, filmed or produced. It occurs to me that these people are responsible some how and they act for reasons which might matter to those of us that have to live with their biases. Print the damn names, let us in on the secret. Someone is making these things happen and they aren’t named media. Tell us who is responsible.

I researched this myself in the 1980s and found that about 40 to 60 percent of the largest newspapers were directly controlled by people with Jewish names, while only about half of Jewish people can be so identified, so the percentage was likely somewhat higher. Far more are controlled indirectly by advertisers, and ad agencies are also disproportionately controlled by Jews. The percentage of Jewish people who can be identified by name was steadily decreasing. So the percentage is likely far higher today. The only areas where Jews did not control most newspapers were TX-LA (where oil companies are said to control the papers) and NJ, where nearly all were controlled by Italians.

I do not know what fraction of Jewish people are zionists, but plainly it includes those who control US mass media. None of the major papers, magazines, TV networks, or large new websites give anything but the zionist view of the Mideast. I have no prejudices myself, and would be pleased to read and cite any more detailed study of the problem, if any are known.

The US intel agencies are considered to have substantial control of US mass media as well. Perhaps there are similar or other hidden biases within the intel agencies.

I don’t remember where I copied this from, or who wrote it, but it has solaced me when people criticize me for spending too much time talking about the “dark side.”

“When I speak of these struggles, people invariably call me “a downer” and “too negative.” I used to believe that was true, that I was being depressing by pushing these issues, but I have come to see that claim inverts reality. In fact, I’m the positive one — by placing my faith in our collective ability to bear the truth that is beyond bearing, I am affirming the best aspects of our humanity. Those who demand that we ignore the painful questions are, in fact, the downers — the people stuck in negativity, the ones who have no faith in themselves or others to face reality honestly.

Without that commitment to facing reality honestly, the harvest will have past, the summer will have ended forever, and we will not be able to save ourselves.”

    • Virginia
      August 5, 2017 at 15:55

That’s a wonderful quote, Mike, and it’s absolutely true. We who are truth-seekers have the guts to look evil right in the face and declare its illusive nature, how its only legitimate purpose must be to testify to its opposite by inversion. We take a lot of control over it by looking at it that way. It doesn’t dominate us because we somehow, intuitively, look at the reverse of it as more true, more real, more present, and inevitably more plausible. My mother once said to me about a boyfriend, “He doesn’t care about the truth; we do!” Many people don’t, and I don’t know why. It’s inexplicable, just as these Neocons’ steering us ever closer to nuclear annihilation is the most irrational thing anyone every contemplated on this planet. That must say that evil has no intelligence. It doesn’t need an excuse. It’s pure blind mesmerism or hypnotism. And not to get too far off from my proposition, then by reversal that “downer” could point to its opposite, the infinite intelligence, logic and rationality of good. Then, we could contrast nuclear power with spiritual power, because power has to be the next question dealt with here. And so on.
I just felt something deep inside me as I re-read my scribble here. It felt like a confirmation that the good we hope for is something real and worth contending for relentlessly.

The influential Times of London reacted vehemently to Lincoln’s Greenback issuance. In an editorial clearly written on behalf of the City of London bankers, it declared, If that mischievous financial policy, which had its origin in the North American Republic, should become indurated down to a fixture, then that government will furnish its own money without cost. It will pay off debts and be without a debt. It will have all the money necessary to carry on its commerce. It will become prosperous beyond precedent in the history of civilized governments of the world. The brains and the wealth of all countries will go to North America. August 5, 2017 at 21:27

Well, I associate Bismarck with being a leading figure of influence in the early development of what has come to be the modern German state. My cursory recall also associates him with development of what in the Western world we might call “liberal reform”. Things like unemployment insurance and the idea or principle that a nation-state has an interest in, and connection to its citizens.
Thanks for the quote earlier. That’s what I’d call bring prescient!

          • Joe Tedesky
            August 5, 2017 at 22:39

            Here are some Bismarck quotes:

“Preventive war is like committing suicide out of fear of death.”

“The secret of politics? Make a good treaty with Russia.”

“When you want to fool the world, tell the truth.”

“A generation that has taken a beating is always followed by a generation that deals one.”

I thought to look up some of Bismarck’s quotes, like the ‘preventive war’ one, after reading an article where General McMasters was talking about just that, preventive war with N Korea. It’s after you read such garbage as what McMasters is pontificating about that you realize all hope is loss if you are looking for any well reasoned logic coming out of Washington.

This Russia-Iran-N Korea sanction bill is definitely a turn to the worst, and not in a little way, but one really big one. The demonization campaign which has been run up against these three countries, is certainly working, or at least it appears that way. I’m afraid that too many Americans, for one’s liking, are totally convinced that Putin is a thug, Iran is the largest supporter of terrorist, and Kim Jung un is a monster, and with this narrative put in place, the maniacs who thrive along the D.C. Beltway feel we are ready for war with these three nations I mentioned above.

With the exception of Kim Jung un, you could win a debate hands down that Putin isn’t a thug, and Iran is far from being the world’s largest purveyor of terrorism. The one thing that could be said in all fairness to N Korea, is America has never ended the Korean War. The other thing which is most important, and this goes even beyond the three countries I mentioned, but that important thing is, is that in every country we set our sights on, there are good and innocent people who never hurt anyone, and for this reason we should put the bombs away…and not go bombs away. For crying out loud where’s the humanity in our souls.

Joe and Gregory, thanks. My experience has been that as one looks more carefully at each US encounter post WWII, you realize that the project to secure resources and block Socialism had kicked in. Was this the issue that finally drove a wedge between Truman and Mac Arthur? Also, within the Academies, you have the built in bias that all Systems have so that graduates of any given institution carry forward that bias. It was that feature of education that the more serious schools recognized and fought by insisting that advanced degrees be obtained at another institution.
In Vietnam, because the system quickly realized that some of the Random draft were better educated, more aware of local history and more opinionated, that they decided to go to their concept of a “professional military”. ”This is most likely the current source of groupthink in our military and relates to the lack of internal tension. It is really difficult to achieve both diversity and unanimity.
Joe, I must commend you on your restlessness, if you don’t “get” it, you look it up.

Bob that culture you talk about, the one we grew up with in America, is worth analyzing. I think we Americans were fed the impression, that we better mobilize or armor up, because there was always the fear of a Russian invasion. This was the original Cold War status, which drove our politicians to spend, spend, spend, until there were no more to spend, and then they spend some more, and all this money we didn’t have was spend under the umbrella of ‘keeping America safe’ for this was always the motto, if you recall. Americans are no more violent, or defensive, as any other nation of people, but if you scare anyone, or in this case an American citizen, well the result is you will get an American battle hardened GI burning down your village, because these warriors are protecting their homeland America. Scare anyone, and then sit back and watch, as these good people turn into B52’s, or they become Tomahawk Missiles, and with all that that’s now become considered the American way. Hoorah!

Bob always fun to read your comments, take care. Joe

I’d like to try calling the neocon/liberal/interventionists what they actually are: Imperialists who support the Empire of oligarchs who use the US to secure their control of earth’s natural resources and its intellectual resources. It is in every aspect the Empire of the Exceptionals.

I really think the coup is already done. Trump seems a total captive of the Imperial war party and helpless. They may not even need to remove him from office and just let him have the 4 years – better optics.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the dropping by the United States of America of a nuclear weapon instantly killing 150 thousand and causing millions of birth defects and genetic damage to the human population.
On that anniversary the United States of America with others is using starvation and the spread of disease in Yemen to see over a million malnourished children living in places where Cholera is killing all around them.
Every single day from the bomb to the starvation the United States of America has deliberately kept or put billions of people in poverty and HAS KILLED PEOPLE EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR OVER 70 YEARS.

Sorry, but I have a problem with the idea that Al Qaeda “lured the U.S. into this Mideast quagmire in the first place by attacking on 9/11,”
The “quagmire” is a creation of colonialism and imperialism. Involvement and interference in the Mideast is entrenched over decades, and, even if one swallows the 9/11 attacks by “Al Qaeda”, the ensuing demolition of Iraq and all the other dirty war-making is one helluva pisspoor response to be “lured” into.

Assyria was the region in the Near East which, under the Neo-Assyrian Empire, reached from Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) through Asia Minor (modern Turkey) and down through Egypt. The empire began modestly at the city of Ashur (known as Subartu to the Sumerians), located in Mesopotamia north-east of Babylon, where merchants who traded in Anatolia became increasingly wealthy, and that affluence allowed for the growth and prosperity of the city. According to one interpretation of passages in the biblical Book of Genesis, Ashur was founded by a man named Ashur son of Shem, son of Noah, after the Great Flood, who then went on to found the other important Assyrian cities. A more likely account is that the city was named Ashur after the deity of that name sometime in the 3rd millennium BCE; the same god’s name is the origin for `Assyria’. The biblical version of the origin of Ashur appears later in the historical record after the Assyrians had accepted Christianity, and so it is thought to be a re-interpretation of their early history which was more in keeping with their belief system. The Assyrians were a Semitic people who originally spoke and wrote Akkadian before the easier to use Aramaic language became more popular. Historians have divided the rise and fall of the Assyrian Empire into three periods: The Old Kingdom, The Middle Empire, and The Late Empire (also known as the Neo-Assyrian Empire), although it should be noted that Assyrian history continued on past that point, and there are still Assyrians living in the regions of Iran and Iraq, and elsewhere, in the present day. The Assyrian Empire is considered the greatest of the Mesopotamian empires due to its expanse and the development of the bureaucracy and military strategies which allowed it to grow and flourish.

      THE OLD KINGDOM
      :
THE DESTRUCTION OF THE GREAT ASSYRIAN CITIES WAS SO COMPLETE THAT, WITHIN TWO GENERATIONS OF THE
      :
EMPIRE’S FALL, NO ONE KNEW WHERE THE CITIES HAD BEEN.
      :
      THE RISE OF ASHUR
The wealth generated from trade in Karum Kanesh provided the people of Ashur with the stability and security necessary for the expansion of the city and so laid the foundation for the rise of the empire. Trade with Anatolia was equally important in providing the Assyrians with raw materials from which they were able to perfect the craft of iron working. The iron weapons of the Assyrian military would prove a decisive advantage in the campaigns which would conquer the entire region of the Near East. Before that could happen, however, the political landscape needed to change. The people known as the Hurrians and the Hatti held dominance in the region of Anatolia, and Ashur, to the north in Mesopotamia, remained in the shadow of these more powerful civilizations. In addition to the Hatti, there were the people known as the Amorites who were steadily settling in the area and acquiring more land and resources. The Assyrian king Shamashi Adad I (1813-1791 BCE) drove the Amorites out and secured the borders of Assyria, claiming Ashur as the capital of his kingdom. The Hatti continued to remain dominant in the region until they were invaded and assimilated by the Hittites in c. 1700. Long before that time, however, they ceased to prove as major a concern as the city to the southwest which was slowly gaining power: Babylon. The Amorites were a growing power in Babylon for at least 100 years when the Amorite king named Sin Muballit took the throne, and, in c. 1792 BCE, his son King Hammurabi ascended to rule and subjugated the lands of the Assyrians. It is around this same time that trade between Ashur and Karum Kanesh ended, as Babylon now rose to prominence in the region and took control of trade with Assyria.

Michael M, You’re right, but Parry probably has had the same experience of us all — no one is listening who is filled with hatred toward Trump. For example, someone I used to think highly of, Mark Shields, last night on PBS News Hour repeated for at least the second time since both Clapper and Brennan corrected it, the lie that “17 US Dept. Agencies agreed…!” I was so offended the first time I heard him lie (or be sadly uninformed), that I wrote him giving him the correction. So…, is he listening to anything truthful that corrects what he wishes to believe? Will he? I don’t think so, because he seems beside himself in his demeanor and, in everything he says now on PBS, to be filled and riled with hate. However, do keep touting the Veterans “forensic” letter. Keep trying, as we all do here on CN. I’ve shared it repeatedly and if you’ll notice, it has the most comments of any other article that I’m acquainted with on CN (though I’m fairly new to this site). The last time I checked it was over 400.

Mr. Parry, Thank you for providing again your knowledge of how it’s all working together but not for good, and what’s behind it. Thank you, Abe, for your helpful details. Thank you, Joe and Mike. Mike — I don’t think you took your walk, but appreciate the reminder that I need to do the same, to check my own thinking on all this and consider more rationally at times what indeed can I do. Did everyone write his/her representatives before the bill signing? I’m afraid I didn’t. They need to hear from such alert people, and regularly, …forcefully! I’d like to hear more about what countries we might all move to, what currencies we should be converting our dollars into, et al? Where you all are going, that’s where I wanna be. Just so you know.

Oh Donny Boy: An Ode to The Donald

Oh, Donny Boy, the missiles, the missiles are landing
On Syria, Yemen and other countries too
Nations are being destroyed and people are slaughtered
Is this what you and other “leaders” want to do?

Your credibility is gone, and many people are dying
But you are praised and lauded by those who hated you
Oh Donny Boy, Oh, Donny Boy the planet is in deep doo, doo
Should we give “thanks” for your missile maniacs’ crew?

Still, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and England
The NATO countries and the corporate media too
Are all in “Seventh Heaven” and now ecstatic over you
Oh, Donny Boy, Oh, Donny Boy these are your “war friends”?
    Isn’t that so very true!

The generals are all so happy for more “work” for them to do
And you and other “leaders” in their bunkers can watch it all “play out” too
Meanwhile the ordinary people everywhere will pay and pay and pay
Millions of dollars for missiles: and you had a “wonderful day”

And when you send more and more hellish missiles
Exploding into cities and countries as well
And when the nuclear bombs start falling
You will have opened the gates of hell

There will be nobody left after it’s all over
In a world we once, all knew
Oh Donny Boy, Oh Donny Boy, Did you make “America great again”?
And incinerate the world too. RIP….

“HR-3364: Countering Americas Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (sic) and its Senate counterpart will mark the irreversible decline of the United States as a global power and forge new ties between Russia, China, Iran and, yes, the major states of the EU including Germany. […]

“The section on Russia was inserted into the original bill on Iran sanctions. It is called, TITLE II—SANCTIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AND COMBATING TERRORISM AND ILLICIT FINANCING.

“Title II justifies its unprecedented new sanctions against Russia by citing a litany of the already sanctioned Crimea annexation and Russian alleged support of Ukraine separatists following the CIA-instigated February 2014 coup d’etat in Kiev, as well as unproven allegations of Russian hacking of Democratic National Committee data files during the 2016 US election campaign. To sweeten the brew, Congress added Russia’s involvement in Syria, legal under international law, aiding the legitimate Assad government fighting ISIS and other terrorists.

“Another justification for the unprecedented new Russia sanctions is cited as unnamed ‘human rights violators in the Russian Federation.’ Of course, the ‘human rights violators’ are to be determined as anyone Washington backs in CIA attempts at trying to foment a new NGO Color Revolution to block re-election of President Vladimir Putin in March 2018 elections.

“Moreover, in a constitutionally dubious arrogation of power of the Executive, Congress mandates that the President no longer has executive authority to remove any Russian sanctions without first the approval of Congress. […]

“the new extraordinary Russian sanctions act openly calls for Color Revolutions, the CIA’s form of ‘fake democracy’ using the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and allied CIA or US State Department front NGOs to massively intervene in the internal affairs of the entire land space from the European Union to Eurasia. This all should not surprise as the key figure in the US Senate credited with forging support for the Russian part of the new sanctions act is the patron saint of the NED and of virtually all US Color Revolutions, John McCain.”

“While the US claims recent sanctions targeting Russia are based on alleged Russian interference in last year’s US elections, a careful examination of US policy post-Cold War reveals a systematic campaign aimed at undermining Moscow, encircling Russia and attempting to overturn the current, prevailing political order there in favor of one dominated by US interests.

“At each step, various excuses are concocted, mainly to mesh with current political narratives embedded within public perception at any given time. Currently, playing left and right-leaning Americans against one another regarding the 2016 election and still-unproven allegations that Russia played a hand at tipping the election in President Donald Trump’s favor helps sell this most recent move made toward undermining Russia.

“Under US President Barrack Obama, accusations that Russia instigated violence in Ukraine after a NATO-backed coup overthrew the elected government in Kiev served as justification for various rounds of sanctions targeting Moscow. […]

“Withdrawing from the anti-ballistic missile treaty and placing missiles along Russia’s borders represents precisely the scenario Soviet policymakers feared when cutting a deal with NATO regarding Germany’s reunification. It is unlikely Russia since the Cold War failed to imagine how NATO’s expansion up to its borders would lead to greater confrontation and instability, even the prospect of war.

“During the Cold War, despite the rhetoric and numerous close-calls, the US and the Soviet Union created an geopolitical architecture that defined deterrents which dissuaded either nation from escalating to full-scale war. Today, that architecture has been left in ruins, not because of Russian aggression, but because of serial American betrayals.

    “Building Upon Betrayal

“With post-Cold War promises betrayed and NATO troops sitting on Russia’s borders, considerable resources have been invested in convincing the global public that Russia, not NATO is to blame for current tensions. Each provocation committed by the United States and its allies are carried out with explicit intentions to leverage whatever Moscow’s response may be to further escalate tensions.

“Sanctions are the least costly and least risky move the US can make both politically and in terms of adding pressure to Russia’s political order. The goal is to eliminate Russia as a competitor in terms of industry, finance and geopolitics. To do this, the US seeks to pressure Russia into accepting a subordinate position within America’s self-proclaimed ‘international order,’ or to overthrow and replace Russia’s political order altogether.

“It is an agenda that benefits un-elected special interests on Wall Street, in Washington, as well as in London and Brussels and goes far in explaining why this singular agenda of encircling and isolating Russia has continued to unfold post-Cold War regardless of who occupies the White House and what the political mood is among the public regarding Russia.

“Sanctions under Trump further prove that this singular agenda continues to move forward and that those investing hope in US presidencies to stop it have invested poorly.

“For Russia, continuing to build an alternative to America’s ‘international order,’ as well as encouraging alternatives both within Russia and abroad to those special interests that define and drive that order, is key to preventing tensions from further escalating.”

Brilliant, realistic writing on the subject. And who could argue that, to see all sides of an issue, as here, is bad for a rational, thinking, well-meaning person? Why, the PTB who rule the global Empire, of course, who bombard us with the negative social/political/economic consequences of being such a person in today’s all-war-all-the-time world.
Perhaps it was always so but I believe things to be much worse today due to our near-total global connectivity. It’s either all-in with the ill borne fruit of Empire or all-out as social outcast. And that’s no choice at all, considering most US citizens could not possibly relocate outside this paradigm. As part of this review, it’s good to look back to a recent piece from Scott Ritter posted here in Consortium News.

    Ritter states:

“The over reliance on a single source of intelligence likewise put Brennan and his task force on the path of repeating the same mistake made in the run-up to the Iraq war . . . Not much is known about the nature of the sensitive source of information Brennan used to construct his case against Russia—informed speculation suggests the Estonian intelligence service, which has a history of technical penetration of Russian governmental organizations as well as a deep animosity toward Russia that should give pause to any kind of effort to manipulate American policy toward Russia in the same way opposition figures (Ahmad Chalabi comes to mind) sought to do on Iraq.”

Ritter’s point on measures taken to correct failures of intelligence re 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq, with these measures ignored to conduct a repeat of what happened previously, obviously indicates how the IC has been overcome politically, again. He uses a scholarly language and tone as usual in his analyses to suggest (and to moderate) the outrage of an intelligence community corrupted and polluted into political maneuvering.

As Mr. Parry could have done here also, Ritter could have pointed out the “deep animosity toward Russia” within Crowdstrike, and could have emphasized, again, that the FBI relied entirely on Crowdstrike for its findings. We also know from a recent report by RT that an entity called “forensicator,” has meticulously analysed the contributions of “Guccifer 2.0” as coming from Crowdstrike itself. Guccifer 2.0 was purported to be a Russian hacker as part of the smoke-screen manufactured last year, related to manipulations of the DNC following disclosures on Clinton by Wikileaks.

As an ordinary citizen with access only to ordinary news, I closely waited for the January 6 report. Its by now obvious bull-shitting is stunning. Even then, the main agencies needed to pretend they were very serious instead of guessing with their “assessments.” Recall that these assessments were not uniform at “high confidence,” but mottled into two “highs” and one “moderate.”

I mean by “stunning” that I want to take seriously Scott Ritter’s intent that the intelligence community really does mean well, and is sincere, and willing to reform—as with the reforms following the fiasco of 01 and 03 that he mentions.

His tone and technical expertise, the gravity of his report, indicate he wants us to believe the American Intelligence Community should still be respected and given credence as a serious institution working for ordinary American interests and knowledge to help decide a civilized foreign policy.

I understand he must be frustrated, and that his gravity and restraint suggest it’s not the fault of the American Intelligence Community that it has turned out to be the dupes and tools of the powerful.

    As with all of us.

My mistake, this report does not indicate Guccifer 2.0’s stuff came from Crowdstrike. Crowdstrike did attack Guccifer 2.0 as “proof” the Russians did it (which he denied). The Forensicator analysis shows the theft was local, from inside the DNC. (Guccifer 2.0 is located in E Europe). This report from information clearing house adds more:

Forget the bull shit that the intel “community” has good intentions. The intel cabal is a particularly vicious center of evil within the US government. Torturers, murderers, and liars is their job description. All this pretending they are really something nicer has got to go – it’s garbage!

Yes mike k, somebody has to do some fast talking to convince me that the intel cabal does not lead the pack in egregious, vicious behavior and practiced deception leading to the death of hundreds of thousands around the world that were no threat to fortress America. Eventually the favor will be returned to no ones benefit as it only takes a generation or two (maybe much less these days) for power based on technical prowess to be overturned. Human beings are very inventive and Generals are always fighting the last war. Then again a natural disaster might easily overturn from left field the suppressions and brutalities of the carefully constructed surveillance Empire

I would suspect the Democrates and the Republicans voted for the sanctions bill out of fear and respect for the AIPAC lobby. Remember the Israeli’s are fit to be tied to how Putin brought his Russia to fight off the ISIS al Queda in Syria, and too an Israeli this is a no, no. Remember sanctions are the first act of war. Let’s face it, if were not for Putin aiding in emptying Syria chemical weapons stock, possibly none of this back and forth with Russia would have ever happened. Consider how close Syria is to Kansas, and then look at a map to see how close Syria is to Israel. Throw in Iran, and well now Israel has a two-fer of a war for their American gentile to fight against.

All I’m saying, and attempting to point out, is that Israel needs to be put into this evaluation, or either if you don’t you will get a lopsided picture of who’s who, and what’s what. This little human rights offender of a made up nation, is way more trouble than it’s worth. If you don’t believe me, well then just look at the body count in these Middle East wars, and if you add in the exorbitantly high debt the U.S. has incurred while fighting these Middle East battles then you will see to just how much blood and treasure has been wasted on this failed Zionist dream.

You’re right Joe! I know you don’t have racist or religious bias in your body… Israel as a country, needs to decide if they want to continue with this hatred, but that’s not our concern. And America has to begin to realize that we have to keep our own self-interest in mind. We (America) will never be able to project our Hard Earned Freedom while attached to Israel…

Bob you have read a lot of what I have to say on this subject of Zionism, and Israel, and I have a deep concern for the many Jewish, who like their American counterpart, are being used and abused by these Zionist Neocon masters of chaos, and this hiding behind the name of such good people, is an even bigger part of the Project for the New American Century to suck up every sovereign nation there is left, who oppose their master plan for world hegemony.

The Jewish who are at odds with this Zionist cabal, are marginalized in the media, the same way peace loving Americans, are hidden from public view. None of this false narrative is good for anyone, Christian, Jewish, and or especially the Muslim, experiencing any positive effects from all this war. I just wish I knew of a sure fire way to correct this Zionist Neocon deception, and bring the people up to speed, of how they have been poorly, or rather criminally represented by these disguised patriots of doom.

Bob the problem with hearing that diverse Israeli voice, is the same reason Americans like you and me are seemingly sounding as though we too are silent, and that’s because the Zio-Media has drown us all out. It’s bad enough these creatures of death and destruction own the State, and the Defense Department, but they, as you well know, control our media’s airwaves on top of all of that. Yes, these raving lunatics have captured all of the important, and vital, resources our country has to offer. Keeping America’s manifest destiny alive ensures these Zio-Goons many, many, more long years of spreading chaos, and the like, that these parasites have so long enjoyed. The cleansing America needs is so gargantuan in size, that it seems to me that voting just won’t be enough to undo this Zio-Neocon system, which keeps the world at war.

Joe, I always look forward to read your very wise and measured comments. But I am moved by these very passionate and truthful comments about what has become of the country and the World.

As a Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi used to run to to AIPAC Office to get her instructions for the day and show her famous smile. And all these legislators fawning on Netanyahu, assembled around him outdoing each other, after his address to the Congress in 2015. I sometimes wonder how these people can degrade themselves like that. What has become of these political leaders? Netanyahu is the number one Neocon, disgustingly arrogant leader of Israel, guilty of many crimes. Most of the political leaders in the earlier days of American History, were very upright and dignified people. As recent as during the 1950’s and 60’s, leaders like Eisenhower and Kennedy had dignity and some stature. What we are witnessing now is all these politicians and people in Media who have been bought out for “twopence halfpenny” – last words are from Tolstoy’s novel Anna Karenina.

It is rather heartening to see that there are some countries like Russia and China out still there, where the leaders have some dignity left in them and where they do not have to bow before, like this all powerful Zio-Neocon System we have here, the one you wrote about in your comments.

I too Dave am waiting for the return of the Noble & Honorable American politician of yesteryear, if they ever really did exist, but just the idea of this happening seems as distant as traveling to the end of the universe. Watching these ‘paid off hacks’ on tv is aggravating, seeing them not only sponsor insane bills such as this latest sanction bill, or listening to these sleaze bags call for more investigations into some imaginary Russian election interference, is not only a waste of time for the country to belabor over, but it leaves a well intended American feeling helpless to watch the rest of the world suffer so much, all because we American voters participate in the lessor of the two evil voting system elect such heartless beings as to who bring death and destruction to so many. This is where we Americans are at, and I don’t like it.

Joe ….. could it be that the reason for all of this neocon hysteria about Russia goes back even further than when Russia got involved with helping Syria in August 2013, to prevent Obama’s eminent attack on Syria over his “red line” ?

Russia appears to have upset the Israeli/Neocon plan hatched back in 2002, during the buildup to the Iraq war. And, to understand this, you have to examine what happened in 2002, during the buildup to that Iraq war.

There was probably a deal made in 2002 between Israel (and their Neocon supporters in the US) and Saudi Arabia, in order to get the Saudis to join the Iraq war coalition. The deal was to do regime change in Iran and Syria after Saddam was removed in Iraq. That is what the Saudis demanded in exchange for the Iraq war to proceed. It probably looked like a good deal to them at the time.

General Wesley Clark later spoke about seeing the list of regime change countries in 2001.(watch this short video)

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXS3vW47mOE

Saddam was left in place following the earlier Gulf War in 1991 because the Saudis were fearful of a Shiite takeover back then too. And, the Gulf War was not about oil. It was about Israeli hegemony and wanting to keep it’s enemies week so that Israel could keep the land it stole.

Israel and their Neocon corner, must now complete their part of the bargain made in 2002. The Saudis may be threatening to expose the whole thing if they don’t.

That is why we got the Iraq war. ……. But there is more to it !

Here is probably what happened in 2002 in a deal worked out by Dick Cheney:

In 2002 Saudi Arabia (Prince Bandar) was shown a list of seven countries where the neocons (Zionists) wanted to do regime change. It is the exact same list that was shown to General Wesley Clark in 2001. (see video below).

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXS3vW47mOE

The Saudis agreed that, in exchange for the high probability that, after the war, Iraq would be taken over by the Shiites, there would be regime change in both Iran and Syria to compensate the Saudi’s.

There was also probably a side agreement made by Dick Cheney in 2002 with the neocons, that President Bush, in exchange for the Iraq war, would be guaranteed re-election in 2004, by receiving favorable media treatment through neocon (Zionist) controlled media, such as the New York Times and Washington Post.
It all has to do with a 1998 Zionist document entitled The Project For A New American Century written by William Kristol and Robert Kagan. Seventeen of the signers of that document later got jobs in the Bush Administration. Also keep in mind that 90% of the signers were Jewish Zionists. The whole purpose of the document was to make the Middle East safe for Israel, so that Israel could keep the land they stole and dictate the settlement terms with Palestinians.

The neocons must absolutely complete their part of a grand bargain made back in 2002 with Saudi Arabia. That is why they will not give up on their quest for regime change in Syria, or in the alternative, the partition of Syria. They absolutely have to do this first in order to isolate Iran, and then do regime change in Iran, as promised to the Saudi’s.

If they can’t complete their grand bargain, the Israeli / Saudi alliance will fall apart. Israel will appear powerless, at a time when they are dependent upon the perception that they control Washington. The Saudis may also be threatening to expose the entire deal unless the promises made to them are carried out.

Russia has put a dagger in the heart of the US Neocon-Israeli regime change project. That is the reason for all the hysteria !

Everything you sighted RamboDave is spot on.

I think like you, that Putin was marked as the next to be overthrown when he interrupted America’s first plan to take out Assad, over the first phony false flag chemical attack, that wasn’t Assad. I do believe that the powerful who reign supreme over the world were a little more than ‘somewhat leery’ over Vladimir Putin for his treatment of bad Russian oligarchs, but the Syrian chemical removal thing, was what finally did it. This is regretful, to denigrate a leader of a nation, who by all his public speeches and his worldly actions, seems to want to join the world, and not destroy it.

I also believe that the ‘Seven Nations within Five Years Plan’ which Wesley Clark talked about, was first the Israeli Oded Yinon Plan. I could go into explaining what the Yinon Plan was, or is, but rather than me waste words I will just direct your attention to what you see unfolding everyday for the last sixteen years in the Middle East and there it is…the Yinon Plan. Although this plan is still in its development stage, it, the Yinon Plan is busy turning over any Middle East nation that is, who doesn’t fit the Yinon Plans final goals. With that, that pretty much includes everybody except for the ‘useless idiot’ Middle East nations who believe that they will be safe, and richer, because they allied to this Zionist cabal…boy, are these people in for a rude awakening.

Keep in touch RamboDave, your comment and links are great. Joe

If you’re an American or European, you’re long overdue to read Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau. Time is running out and taxpayers are tacitly supporting the Zionist agenda for a global dictatorship.

If you’re not sure what to do here are some steps you can take. Remember, it’s not you’re fault if others don’t take action since you cannot control what they do, but you can control what you do:
    – Move abroad, renounce citizenship (see ex-Marine Ken O’ Keefe who the Zionists are after)
    – Stop using the USD. This is their biggest weapon. Don’t accept it and it will become useless. If you have it, get rid of it for something of value and trade in something else. Supply and demand. If demand decreases, it will crash.
    – Stop using Western Banks. This gives them more power over you to basically rob you by creating more money via fractional reserve banking.
    – Separate yourself from the people who continue to blindly support Republicans and Democrats and unite with those against them

I myself am a US Citizen, but realize as a Gentile, I am a second-class citizen/slave for the Jewish-Supremacist state of Israel as long as I go along with the status quo. Standing up for what is right is never easy and at this time, we must take a stand against the world’s most brutal and deceptive dictatorship of all time.

“How can a man be satisfied to entertain an opinion merely, and enjoy it? Is there any enjoyment in it, if his opinion is that he is aggrieved? If you are cheated out of a single dollar by your neighbor, you do not rest satisfied with knowing that you are cheated, or with saying that you are cheated, or even with petitioning him to pay you your due; but you take effectual steps at once to obtain the full amount, and see that you are never cheated again. Action from principle, the perception and the performance of right, changes things and relations; it is essentially revolutionary, and does not consist wholly with anything which was. It not only divides States and churches, it divides families; ay, it divides the individual, separating the diabolical in him from the divine.”
    – Civil Disobedience

I can’t argue with your prescription for undoing the empire, but it is a tall order to ask people to leave their friends and family and move abroad. That is basically what is required to transfer your entire wealth to a foreign currency. Plus since all English speaking countries are US vassals, you would probably have to learn a foreign language, or live in a US ex-pat enclave in a country that isn’t tied to the dollar.

They know very well that they, the American Nationals want to live in peace with all their neighbours in the world, do trade, culture, tourism to have a normal good live for the time we are on this planet.
These are the true American Nationals who are friendly and inviting people as we know them from the early days when you are from outside the United States of America.

They finally will stand up for their original state (where they were born) of America and stop US INC of stealing more and more properties, land, water, climate, living situations and later on even stealing their lives. For greed and wars and power.

Yes you are right DarkEyes but being right gets you nowhere in an insane world where dogma becomes truth. America leaders have led the way in letting Pandora out of the box. Rule of law and morality have fallen with the Empire. IMO. Why are you guys not proposing in your own state or country in America that for instance your state and all the other states of America cease their Service Contract with the United States Incorporated in Washington, District Columbia, a country not bigger than ten square miles. They are the Service Provider for the fifty states of America, which are paying them let us say every month after receiving the Invoice for delivered services.
If that service contract will be ceased the service provider cannot exist anymore. Right? If yes, problem solved.

        August 5, 2017 at 19:15

DarkEyes, good question. You’re dealing here with some life-time innocents. Many, such as myself, have literally spent our adult lives researching the trama that we’ve experienced through the years, all through the filters of propaganda and formal mis-direction. Some of us who were young in the 50s, admittedly not all of us, have vivid memories of adult middle class leaders who were distinct and real roll models of work and commitment. Certainly they were flawed, we all are, but we. Could see good all around us. This and economic progress too. (So you know, I’m aware of the ego-economic cost of that statement) The New Deal was lifting us up’ some of us literally. Then rather suddenly things began to change. We fought wars with little purpose,, lost friends, lost respect, soon the dream became a nightmare, as it remains. We’ve had to ask our selves, was it ever real? Our prosperity, or was it imagined?
Most of us regulars are here because Robert Parry tells the truth,we try hard to tell it back to each other. Even in these dreadful times, when our opinions seemingly don’t count, we’re thrilled by the truth. We here have experienced some moments which were the very best a civilization on earth has ever experienced and though it might be over; we will never forget them.

For some of us the doomsday clock has already struck midnight, we are just waiting for the nuclear weapons to begin falling.

The recent sanctions decision was basically a declaration of war on Russia. It made it clear to the leaders of Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and anyone else who might dare to challenge American Empire World Domination that our intention is to attack you economically, with vicious propaganda lies, and eventually with armed attack until you unconditionally surrender your country and your people to our domination. This congressional decision made clear what has been tacitly true for a long time, the United States is committed to do whatever is necessary to enforce it’s rule over the world, and EVERYTHING IS ON THE TABLE, which is a lightly coded threat meaning genocide and nuclear war are options on our menu. We have thus served notice that the US is now on a total war footing until we have conquered every nation on the planet.

You really don’t need 20 – 20 vision to read between the lines of this outrageous congressional law to see what it clearly intends. The cat is out of the bag. The clock has struck midnight for all with ears to hear it.

While I am not quite as pessimistic, I am alarmed by the unanimous support for this bill and the reason Trump signed it. What we see is the media’s ability to turn a lie into the perceived truth in a way that is far more dangerous and risky and it shows their lack of concern which is concerning..

It was one thing to pick fights with Iraq and Syria and Libya. It is quite the other thing to pick fights with North Korea and Russia or treat them the same way. Iran will likely abandon the nuclear treaty since they get slapped no matter how they try to cooperate.

I also commend Bernie Sanders who seems to be the only realist in the group. He said and did a lot of things which tells me he is no classic democrat. He opposes gun control for example.

Gun control and other positions that democrats cling to just like the “deplorables” they hate who “cling to their bibles and guns” should be ample evidence that the democratic party has been and continues to be a party on a long term decline in popularity. It is not providing any form of leadership.

Their go along to get along position means they are handmaidens and servants of the republican masters who run the show. The slave party can only sit in subservience and agree with their masters. Bernie Sanders is the only democrat with the balls to stand for what is true in this situation. Something tragically wrong with that.

I have known for a long time that democracy is the best form of tyranny. The ideal state is to present an ostensible diversity with an apparent freedom of choice which conceals an actual uniformity where there are no choices. The reason for this is clear in history. One party states and dictatorships around the world show that it is the most common form of government but it is also the least durable. The citizens will eventually rise up and overthrow a tyrant but in a two party state, hope springs eternally. Every election we are fooled into believing we are voting for change but as we see with the democrats whenever they get a real change agent in the running for president they destroy their chances of winning. They’re really all on the same team.

It makes complete sense that Bernie would be the only senator to vote against the bill and it makes complete sense why he is not affiliated with either party. Elisabeth Warren is also an outspoken outcast. There are millions of dollars flowing into efforts to stop her as she dares to call out all the criminal activity going on with the banks and Wall Street.

The republicans who are heavily influenced if not controlled outright by the neocons have plans for world domination through military posturing and power projection along with a whole bunch of undercover activity to create the world order they seek.

I would imagine it is a colonial model filled with corrupt puppet dictators who receive military support from the USA to defend themselves against their enraged population and agree support US interests in exchange.

This is exactly what we did to Iran. It is exactly why they hate us so much. We didn’t give a damn about the people of Iran but when their elected president nationalized the oil fields as in Venezuela, their country immediately became number one on the hit list for a coup and a puppet dictatorship which we supported militarily and which suppressed the population and supported US interests.

This is what we do. We have been doing it for centuries and it goes back to the dawn of human history when one group of apes decided to get rich by invading the tribe next door and taking over. It is almost biological in nature.n It just might be in our DNA. The urge to attack others. The need to assign blame on foreign enemies. The desire to subjugate. The lust for power and wealth that drives people to commit horrible acts based on money.

The fact that there are only two senators and three members of the HR who might even be slightly concerned with the way this thing is going is horrifying to me. America is on the road to becoming the most hated nation on the planet and we seem to like it that way since it fits the “us against them” narrative. We might as well be slapping Putin in the face and daring him to respond as we hold our finger on the button. Such lunacy, and all because some democrats can’t accept the fact they lost the election.

How sad. How idiotic. How tragic. for all of us. Obama had a shot at ending the madness and he blew it. He eagerly joined with the neocons on their military crusades. He sold their lies. He blamed it all on the Russians. He slapped them with sanctions. He stopped doing business with them. He cancelled contracts worth billions because the neocons demanded that Russia still be kept as a permanent enemy which we could use to permanently justify huge military spending programs.

Trump tried to escape the trap and the media and our government have nailed him on a cross for proposing friendship and economic cooperation between the USA and Russia. Now they have unanimously voted to declare Russia a permanent enemy of the USA and have stripped away the power of this president and any president going forward to change it. That is horrifying and it is unacceptable.

It is unacceptable only wish for us to be free of these terrible leaders and the dark influence which controls them and from the propaganda which has us in darkness and delusion and ignorance and leaves us incapable of making correct decisions.

Those who have no ears or eyes to hear or see truth will eventually be destroyed. This is what we have today and whether or not the destruction comes from within or from the outside, if we do not open our eyes and ears and hear and see the truth and know it to be true when we see or hear it and also know when we are being lied to we are doomed.

There is also a requirement to act once your eyes and ears are opened. The requirement is to teach and educate others who are in ignorance and darkness. To show them the light of truth so that they may correctly find their way. To be a light burning brightly illuminating the truth and calling out all the lies for what they are.

I thank the editors and contributors and the commenters on this website. It is a difficult act to illuminate all that is wrong with our current government and society without falling into the swamp you find on other sites filled with anger and name calling. Sure, there are always going to be differences of opinion. But Mr. Parry and his contributors have done an excellent job since 1995! Wow! 22 years. You deserve all the awards for your contribution toward uncovering so many of the untold scandals over the last two decades. You have been that shining northern star. The guiding compass to expose all the misinformation, lies and corruption.

Amen, CitizenOne. A clear and coherent (if disheartening) analysis of what ails us and who is to blame.

And kudos as always to Robert Parry. Like all first-rate journalists (alas a vanishing breed), no matter how many times you write & rewrite this terrible & tragic story, the true facts you present NEVER change.

Same here. I have been a subscriber to The Nation for decades, but I have had enough and will not renew.
Their political editor, John Nichols, is openly advocating for impeachment. They are obsessed with the “resistance” movement even though as SteveK9 says it has involved derangement on the part of Dems whose derangement and denial syndrome (they are in denial as to why Clinton lost the election—it was her won fault—and even the Sandernistas don’t seem to care that she stole the candidacy from him) have brought them to the nadir: making common cause with Neocons, AIPAC, that whole crew. The American left and progressives prefer to suck their thumbs and throw a tantrum instead of grwoing up and working with Trump where they can: on reducing tension with Russia and sidelining legisation such at TPP.

The erstwhile left, (many) American Jews, the Zionists and Neocons are all together now drinking the same Kool-Aid. There is no functioning left or progressive politics in the USA now.

The owner/editor of The Nation is Katrina vanden Heuvel, whose father was trained in the spy/propaganda trades by none other than “Wild Bill” Donovan, founder of the OSS and so god-father of CIA.

On balance, her husband is Stephen Cohen, who is arguably the US’s best Russia-scholar and one of the sanest voices on this whole Cold War II

Notice now as well the known, admitted criminal William Browder lying to the Senate committee about his activities in Russia where his crimes led to his “lawyer” being imprisoned, so of course Browder blamed Putin and helped Sen Ben Cardin push through the Maginsky Act which started a new witch hunt. An article by Israel Shamir (sorry can’t link) explains all this, but the Senate lapped up the lies and so did the MSM.

        To Bannanboat and Kirko:

Having grown up as the scion of a political functionary (I preferred
Bessie Smith and then Charlie Parker to politics) not much
        of the “cesspool” surprises me.

In perspective, one must put it all together with other circumstances
where there is great power and great competition. I worked in
menial positions for brokerages (now, alas, no longer whinnying
with us) whose functioning in many areas was little different
than plantation (minus the physical brutality of slavery now
reinvented on people of color in America as a whole).

        THE MORAL OF THE STORY:

Washington gets enough “blame”. We ourselves have
produced these hellholes again and again in
        many fields.

US has this nasty habit of comparing itself to the Roman Empire. But, anyone with basics in Ancient European History knows that, apart from Carthage and a few other outliers, the Roman rule was a benevolent rule. After war came peace and prosperity. Totally, opposite to this, when US conquers a country this is when its suffering really starts. Any drugged up, f’ed up, brainless US trailer trash scum or out-of-jail rapist and murderer is given mighty firepower into his hands and complete immunity from any local laws. Then, even when the “US law” pretends to punish one of those for their horrible crimes, we all know that this is only for the headlines and show and that when they are released very soon after there will be no headlines. The logic is very simple and also applies to the police inside US – “we would quickly run out of scum to put into police and military uniforms or contract as mercenaries if we were to start punishing them for their horrible crimes”, or “the more rotten, vicious and dirtier, the better; that’ll teach locals obedience”.

I am sure that you will see in the Western MSM the news that some shitty mercenary US appeals court ruled that the jail sentence for the killing of 17 man, women and children in Nisour Square in Iraq constitutes “cruel and unusual punishment” (/sarc).

This is why US is so universally hated in all the bombed-out, terrorized, occupied, regime-changed and still free countries around the world. One sick system in one sick country, that the whole world can’t wait to fade-away into oblivion.

I knew Russia gate was bullshit from the get go. All of it.
We have the criminally insane running our government. Whether they were bribed by AIPAC or their lives were threatened, the reality.is that we are allowing ourselves to be walked into WW3.
I would enjoy hearing about WHY war is better. What’s the motive if these psychopaths?
They surely have elaborate bunkers to run too.

It is unlikely that Gabbard was ever far from the center-right, and once in DC, one is surrounded by groupthink and insurmountable social and economic pressures to concede all to the extreme rightwing oligarchy puppets. You either bring your own self-sufficient intellectual society, your own shadow government, or live as an outcast and object of ridicule, or go along to get along. Almost no one has been adequately prepared for that. DC is a cesspool of corruption and nothing more.

If the establishment hadn’t taken total leave of its senses, as this piece proves, this article would be the last word on the matter. Unfortuantely, the propaganda neocon power structure has morphed into a regime as odious as the historical horror regimes, and, as a result of the strength of this regime, our futures are imperiled. What is particularly revolting is how formerly serious anti-war people have become clownish lackeys of an increasingly powerful regime. It would almost be comical if the consequences were not so serious.

Clearly the MIC/Israel/Saudi warmongers who own the duopoly parties are spoiling for escalation to rationalize their domestic tyranny and profits, and to reduce the Mideast under zionist/Saudi tyranny. The best democracy money can buy. Once more we have an essential counterpoint to the mass media propaganda.

Those who would like to petition the NYT to make Robert Parry their senior editor may do so here:
      https://www.change.org/p/new-york-times-bring-a-new-editor-to-the-new-york-times?recruiter=72650402&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink
While Mr. Parry may prefer independence, and we all know the NYT ownership makes it unlikely, and the NYT may try to ignore it, it is instructive to them that intelligent readers know better journalism when they see it. A petition demonstrates the concerns of a far larger number of potential or lost subscribers.

Today we have 500 signatures, so I may put in this appeal less often. Others are welcome to do so.

Danny Weil, what makes you think Trump will “do what he is told”?
He is exposing the corruption in America. He is up against the “neo cons” and “neo liberals”, more commonly known as The Swamp. Ironically, The Swamp coined both “neo” terms, which are BS anyway.

      • Libby
        August 16, 2017 at 20:49

It is impossible to tell what Trump would have done on his own, that is, under stable circumstances. But as it is, of course he ‘will do what he is told’, and has done it already, as the examples of the Russian sanctions and Syria bombing attest.

And Trump is not ‘exposing the corruption in America’; it is exposing itself. And what is more, not many in either party seem to take heed, but rather plunge willingly right into the chaos, contributing to it.

  68. August 5, 2017 at 09:11

Until Americans start to realise that the people who really run the United States don’t go to all the bother of standing for election every few years, when they know they can land plum posts, like Assistant Secretary of State, in the government of whichever party they choose, nothing will change.

Forner Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and top neo-con Victoria Nuland is a prime example. With the help of another unelected poltician she basically planned the Ukrainian coup. Nuland was about to swap sides when she thought Hillary Cinton was home and dry.

The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton had followed a similar trajectory to Nuland’s across the side of the Atlantic in Britain. She has never been democratically elected for any post in her entire life. Nuland and Ashton worked had worked together at the talks with Iran that led to the agreement the US is now breaking with new sanctions, so they were already on the starting blocks when it came to destabilising Ukraine.

Good examples- the People need many more to see concretely what the Deep State is and how it works. I saw the same at EPA and DOJ and before that in the NJ AGs and NJDEP, and of course I saw the fabled ‘revolving door’ between top officials in government and the industry law firms it pretends to police and regulate. If the People dont see it, its not concrete enough, its just a bit vague and mysterious, and its a bit incredible, and the solution is not clear enough. So the corrupt cozy relationships remain undisturbed, they persist with impunity, and they get away with it.

      THE SECOND “AGE OF SUSPICION”

When I was younger the first “Age of Suspicion” was during the
McCarthy period. It was not, of course, the first at all as I have
previously pointed out. It omits all such “ages” under
      Democratic Administrations (eg. Red Scares,
Attorney General’s List, Blacklist etc. etc.)

My childhood memories remain vivid. Many lost their jobs,
others, such as my Father, under FBI “loyalty oaths”
fled to the mountains. (Dad survived to reappear later
      as a US Ambassador.)

Robert Parry’s excellent analysis “Neocons Leverage…”
brigs much of our current SECOND “Age of Suspicion”
      to the forefront.

It is the height of arrogance (or near “heat”) to sahy
“I told you so!” You must excuse me if I am—in this case—
      correct.

I have also written in these spaces that piece by piece
the various nations unilaterally sanctioned by the US
(Republicans and “liberals”) will face additional
responses from the various sanctioned nations,
each according to its judgement of its best
and most effective course for that particular nation.
To each according to its abilities…

Both externally and domestically the future for
political discourse is most bleak indeed.

Thanks for your support, Joe T.

          “The island”?

The truth is that “you can run but you can’t hide”. In my
youth I had dreams of escaping. Those dreams were
dreams of an earlier era, of my my own traditional
liberal” illusions and myths. (I had friends of
long ago who fled to Canada during the Viet Nam
          War. They were miserable.)

For the best analysis of where we all are read Gabriel
Kolko’s THE ROOTS OF AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY
especially the Epilogue: “On reason and Radicalism”
The war in Indochina had not ended and one must
read Kolko with an understanding of his particular context.

I agree with Kolko that mass demonstrations are not
the answer today. We must grow and deepen our
understanding of economics (Jack Rasmus), of Zionism/
Israel in Thomas Suarez’ THE TERROR STATE,
of Civil Rights past and present, of the kind of essential
and critical analyses provided in consortiumnews and
          sometimes available elsewhere as well.

Like those in Germany who opposed the National Socialists
as they took power , we must seek to do what
we can. Running in the street and getting
shot is not always the best strategy.

My parents connected (indirectly) with ministers
who sacrificed their own lives because they
“converted” Jews only for the purpose of their
escape, with those who stole food from their
employers to feed a Jew hidden in a smokestack
in their house. He survived the war and got to
Argentina. He would beg my Mother for money under
her non-Jewish name she had assumed (“Nancy Carol”).
Eventually after surviving World War II itself, his immunity
system failed him and after one illness after another he
          failed to survive the “peace”.

So we have to make the best of what we give and of what
we can give.I hung a drawing by Ben Shawn which
says something or other in Hebrew (I don’t read or
          speak Hebrew!) and under it:…

Sad and plain to see that the #Resistance is so vitriolic and recalcitrant that they can be abducted into any cause, including support for more war. A sign of the times and of the rate of conversion to ever more deceitful and dangerous propaganda. It is hard to see how more reflective and independent minds can have a say, much less deter us, from the destructive path we are on.
